Hey everyone I'm a new member and I was wondering: how much horsepower/torque can the stock 5-Speed sportshift transmission handle? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! :)

Not too much I'd be weary of puting a stage 1 CN kit on it. There is one guy with I think a stage 2 on a base auto but he had his tranny built. They are pretty weak in comparison to the type-s six-speed. I'd get it built if I was going to boost it or something, but anything over I'd say 275 to 300 whp would really be pushing the envelope.

thanks! if i did boost it i wouldn't do it for about a year. right now i'm just looking to build it up without boost. By the end of my naturally aspirated mods, i want to have it around 215 horsepower. That should be okay for the tranny, right?

yeah you'd be fine with that but you'd have to do a whole lot of engine mods to get you to 215 in a base and that would be hard even if we're not talking about 215 to the wheels like say 165-170 at the wheels which would translate to about that.

I'm about 15 min from there in Willingboro, around burlington area. If you race we'll have to go to the track sometime. I went a couple times with KluthRSX and Aznbeayst and we had mad fun.

The auto tranny can handle about 200-220 without any problems.. anything over would be a risk.

I recall hearing that the stock 5spd tranny can take 250 horses, but I could be way off so please don't take my word for it.

Not to hop of the subject or nething but i was messin around on my home from work 2day and noticed from 2nd to 3rd at high rpms there was alil grind. I did this a few times and it still did it , nething under 3500 is fine. Am i just not engaging the clutch enough or did i fu** sumthin up. The car only has 1035miles on it. There was one time when i went into 3rd and didnt quite make it and its not like it stat there and ground away the teeth on one shot, i dunno its under warrenty but still gettin to me considering the low miles

hey

i'm assuming you're talking about a stick...yea that does sound weird...esp considering the mileage

on a less serious note my 03 rsx is 7 months old with 17k on it...dashboard rattles in 3 spots and when i close the drivers door sometimes something on the outside rattles...no accidents...so i'm having that checked very soon

about the auto...i'm assuming if you stay auto you should be fine with no specific hp #...as you're not changing how the engine performs...no boost or nitrous spikes ..that differs the normal linear performance of the rpm range

i'd say a transmission cooler would be ina safe interest

y dont some aftermarket companies find better ways for the auto ss to get more HP to the wheels. like some how make the transmission more efficient

stillstock

expensive to research and develop

aftermarket companies do not have the pockets of the hondas and toyotas of the world
on the same note in a different light...same reason why aftermarket parts aren't half as reliable as stock...but thats not for this thread

no market for it.

the sport compact market esp for hondas is very saturated with manuals

plus the actual amount of people who actually spend the 3-10k on a turbo kit is too little than to make a whole tranny kit for the rare person who wants to turbocharger an automatic grocery getter...hence all the parts for the type s...its more performance oriented

you ask about making an auto "more efficient" are you referring to the drag strip mode or street/cruising mode? For cruising there is a fairly tight coupling of the TC to give a low stall speed then there is lockup. For drag strip the coupling would need to be loosened up thus allowing a higher stall speed for higher rpm launches BUT more lose when on street short of lockup. It uses thinner oil than manual boxes thus consuming less energy.
