View Full Version : Type-s exhaust truths....

Ok here is the problem with the whole type-s exhaust on a base rsx, today i went to have it put on and it looks to be that the piping size from the borla is not the same as the piping size on the stock base cat, seems to be that acura gave the type-s a bigger piping size for more free flowing air....sob's! But on a good note, the type-s exhaust fit the aftermarkter carsound catalytic converter perfectly and that is already welded to the type-s b-pipe, so im going to give it another try tomorrow with the type-s header and using the rest...now it should all bolt up properly! My only problem is what happens when cybernation goes to do my turbo and realizes that i have a type-s exhaust set up on my base.

Tell them that you need the Type-S manifold instead of the base.

yea you need type-s exhaust manifold (header) basically, if your going to want to do this you need every part that has to deal with the full exhaust from header all the way back.

pipe size is not much up with type-s exhaust? I thought people have adaptor to connect from stock base cat to type-s aftermarket exhaust?

i think thats only for one exhaust, But now i dno what to do because yea i can put it all in perfectly, but what happens when i go to get my turbo done and they notice i have type-s parts and also that my cat is welded to the b-pipe (stock "down-pipe")

If you wanna go turbo than the Type S setup will be a waste of your money and time. Just get a cat-back for now if you already don't have one and leave it at that. Then get Turbo and be happy. Cause they or you will have to yank all that shit off again (Type S manifold and downpipe)

what is the diameter of borla b-pipe? 60mm?

i hav a catback but it is a borla made for the type-s.....so i have to use it.

Hey yeahi, so what do I have to get for a perfect swap? A type-s exhaust and a type-s header as well? And do I need a type-s b-pipe in order to have carsound cat welde in? I can't just welde it to the stock base?
yeahi

you need a type-s header, type-s downpipe, type-s cat and a type-s exhaust for a perfect swap, basically a full exhaust set-up from a type-s. The carsound cat i dont know if they have them for base rsx's but by the looks of this one, you would need a type-s exhaust to fit in because of the bigger diamiter pipe. Once i jack up the car again i'll take some pics to show you what i mean.

Ok great thanks.

I will order a type-s exhaust and going to ask a exhaust shop to do a extension with connector plates. Would you able to take some photos on how long it needs?

yea will take a lot of pics 2morrow of what im talking about. Its not a matter of length, its a matter of the diameter of the piping. The type-s exhaust set-up was designed for more air flow so the tubing is bigger on the type-s than on the base rsx.

That would be great. I think the exhaust shop can do pipe size conversion on the extension bit. I remember many people who bought a adaptor, or weld it, whatever, has successfully connect base headers and cat to type-s exhaust..

i thought about welding the cat to the exhaust, but what happens when i go turbo or decide to change the exhaust..i = screwed. going to have to unweld and what not.

You wouldn't really be screwed, you don't have to unweld either. Just hack it off and reweld it back onto your turbo setup. Most muffler shops have plasma cutters, takes like 5-10 seconds to cut it off completely from your exhaust. And like a minute or two to weld it back onto your turbo setup.

Maybe just don't weld it dude...
just ask a exhaust to do a extension (with two connector plate at the end) with different diameter at each end?

ahh in like an hour or 2 im heading over to my friends shop. I'm just going to try to put in all the type-s parts which should work. Hopefully i dont get any CEL lights or anything. I'll take some pics to show the difference in the type-s and non type-s stuff.

good news! if you can, before you take off your stock base cat and header. can you take off the stock cat-back and try to fit your borla catback and take the photo of how long it is missing?
Then probably please take a photo on the diameter difference side by side with a stock base cat and your borla?
That will be great help for fellow base owners!

just to clarify, the S bpipe will not bolt up to the base cat? cuz i have the S bpipe and muffler and was hoping to bolt it up to the cat on my base

no i dont think so. ehh crap already took it off. But the problem is not that its short, its that its not long enough.

hmm i forgot to tell you what happened....well all went good to one point, it all bolted up perfectly!!!! Untill we had some problems......
1. The CEL came on about 2 minutes later....dno how to fix it, can someone suggest something?
2. About 30 minutes later my check battery light came on, we read the ECU codes and im getting some crap in the axle and the 2 o2 sensors and one more i cant remember. Then i took it to acura and they say i need new alternator and new battery. I dont think the exhaust set-up caused this to the atlernator though, think it was just time for it to go poof. But let me tell you, when i drove the car w/ the CEL on, even though it robs some of the power, boy it picked up nice as hell and borla is wow!!!! mad
I will let you guys know what happens when i get my car back wednesday with the new alternator and battery. If the CEL is still on, im going to take it to my friends shop and put it back on the lift and screw around with it to see whats going on. If you know anything please, enlighten me please!

is there a way to modify the S bpipe so it bolts up to teh base cat and then i can have the S bpipe and muffler on my base?
yeahi
01-19-2004, 10:36 PM
yea probably, if you take it to a muffler shop and just tell them to modify it to the cat, they can weld on a piece to connect the two, or shrink one side so it will bolt up. That can be done with the right muffler shop.
