Okay so yesterday I went out to my friends Ross and Jennifer(Two other base owners) And we installed my type s exhaust all the way from the headers to the catback. I had ordered some bolts and gaskets from the dealership just incase there were some broken bolts but Ross did excellent. The install wasn't too bad it was more taking off the rusted bolts that was the task but again Ross did great. So we took off my arospeed headers base cat and HKS exhaust and swapped everything with Type S parts. There is a 1/2 an inch difference in the Type S piping compared to the base, and my HKS piping was the same size as the Type S Piping. The header is longer as well as the catalyst but everything bolts up perfectly. The sound is nice, I was getting tiered of my HKS growl, dont get me wrong i loved it but I no longer wanted so a big exhaust. I am happy with the outcome of this project and it was much cheaper then buying a whole new exhaust. I do reccomond this project to others and i believe you will also be happy with the outcome.
Parts: Type S Header--$65 Shipped From member on ClubRSX
Type S Cat--$150 Shipped from member on ClubRSX
Type S CatBack-$55 Shipped From Ebay Member
Bolts and Gaskets-$55 From Dealership
So Grand Total---$325
This is a cheaper alternative for the same if not more power gains then an aftermarket exhaust.I really have to thank Ross and Jennifer for taking time to help me on this swap. 2 new great friends of mine. I hope this answers any questions base owners had. The answer is---Yes the Type S exhaust can be done on base, just get all parts listed above and everything will piece together perfectly. Thanks for reading my post.

Nice work. What kind of header did you get?

I got the OEM Header off the Type S, I wanted to try OEM parts before I spent more money on Aftermarket Parts. Thanks for the positive feedback.

how did the ride feel performance wise after the swap?

AcuraRacesRSX
01-18-2004, 04:22 PM
It felt a lot like my aftermarket set up, but quieter and more smooth. And when i had orginally installed my arospeed headers and HKS exhaust i felt more of a boost. But now it seems more free flowing and better taking off at the line. Time for some Torque Dampeners.I have no regrets with this set up at all. The only thing I fear is Type S owners Flaming me, lol. But i am really happy with the performance of this set up, damn typs cars were hoooked up to begin with. haha. Thanks for reading.

good info.. i'm glad you're satisified. i too am going that similar route -- type-s muffler with custom piping and either JR or comptech race header.

wait, what downpipe did u use?

AcuraRacesRSX
01-19-2004, 02:53 AM
U don't need a downpipe. All u need are the parts I listed. Type S Header connects to Type S catalyst with gasket type s catalyst connects to B Pipe and B Pipe to Muffler. I think u only need a downpipe with a turbo set up but I could be wrong. I'd take pics but I have no digi cam, maybe next time I'm with Jennifer and Ross we can take pics. I know u were going this path but now decided 2 go turbo, but if u change ur mind it all bolts up. Best of Luck.
I'm glad I'm giving people Ideas!! LOL! :)

Hmm thats sounds like a very good idea.
You probably received the same kind of gains
you would have with your other set up. Damn
now I feel like doing the same thing. Nice job.

Lol. Thanks a lot guys. Go ahead and try it. Its a easy fun mod. With good power gains. Now I can get any aftermarket exhaust for the type s they don't make for the base :) I like reading posittive fedback, no flames yet, YAY! LOL! Keeps the mods coming guys.

umm isnt the b-pipe from the cat to the header?

AcuraRacesRSX
01-19-2004, 11:44 AM
No! The catalyst mounts to the header, then the B-pipe mounts to the catalyst. All u have to do is look under ur car. Look from ur header down. Header-Catalyst-B-Pipe-Muffler that's how it is my friend.

Thanks for posting, many ppl just say in theory, etc.. now finally someone does it and it works. One question have you noticed any rattling against the undercarriage.

AcuraRacesRSX
01-19-2004, 08:59 PM
There is a rattle at 3000RPMs but I believe it is the Heatshiled for te catalyst that must be tihteed or removed, if not that it may be the extra holder the base header needed rubbing against the catalyst and that ca be bent away. Sadly I won't have time to fix this problem to the weekend. But it only rattles at 3000RPM ad if u maintain a 3000RPM, otherwise it goes away. Not really noticeable, but any noise I notice, lol. I wil let u know if that fixes the prolem. How did u know there would be a rattle?

very very nice work!, but what i wanted to kno was, if i find a type-s muffler or even a muffler with the stock cat-back still on it, and then i get it welded on my base....would i feel any power gains from this? thanks

AcuraRacesRSX
01-19-2004, 09:10 PM
You really won't find any power unless you u use everythin type s oem or an aftermarket set up. There is half an inch difference between base and type s so there is deff. A differene in power. If ur going to try this get everything type s oem or aftermarket.

im thining the answer is no, but will a S bpipe bolt rite up to the base cat? i have a S bpipe and muffler and was hoping it would bolt rite up to teh cat...

Sadly no my friend. You will need a type s catalyst and type s header for it all to work. Those parts are usuallu easy to find in the for sale forum. If people ask about a down pipe its really called the A-Pipe and usualy this piece is already bolted to the catalyst.. Te type s catalyst and eader are longer and half an inch larer in diameter. Get these parts and join me on the type s swap lol. Good luck to u buddy.

thanks for the info. see i have the S bpipe and muffler, and am simply tryin to replace my muffler that was stolen(noone sellin any base mufflers, so i bought a type S catback today). is there a way to modify(cut.weld.etc) the S bpipe so i can bolt it up to my base cat and then put the S muffler on to the S bpipe?

Yea the Type S Exhaust I have to admit is much smoother than the Base stock exhasut, it's not as choppy.

I was there for the install and took a ride in it, I have to say it was a mod. worth doing for anyone who's looking to do something new to thier rides.

Good job Brenden...sorry if I spelled ur name wrong...no hard feelings pal.....:wavey:

Brendan,

Thanks for sharing your Type S exhaust conversion. I plan on changing my header and using type s exhaust. Your list will definitely be a great help. Do you have pictures?

AcuraRacesRSX
01-20-2004, 06:12 PM
I have no pics sorry. But I can have some up this weekend if u can wait. It was a great mod. Now that I have done this mod and proved it can be done I'm glad to see people following in my footsteps. The only suggestion I have is order bolts and gaskets in case u break one and remove the heatshield for the catalyst(that's what was causin my car to rattle @ 3000rpm) Other then that its pretty straight foreward. Thanks for posting.

good work!!

I don't think pics are really necessary, just go look at any stock type S!!!!!!!!!!

Lol yeah good point. But I think its time for me to take pics of my car finally. Hopefully the snow will hold off this weekend so I can take some. Thanks for thumbs up, always appreciated. Seems weird that I was the first to do it though, I thought someone would beat me 2 it. But I am glad I did it.

I did the same thing in the summer .. works pretty good no rattles or anything .Just had to bend one bracket out of the way since the Type-s header and base are a tiny bit different. Now I'm thinking of either getting a shorty header (no cel) or maybe just a cat-back for a tiny bit more power and a nicer sound. Has anyone added a cat-back to a base type-s swap ?

im getting really really close to getting all my parts to do the S swap. i wanted to kno if anyone has dynoed. to see how much the S exhaust swap really adds. and also how much louder does the car really get? im sure its just deeper....but more details would be nice.

i finished this the other day, its deeper and barly louder. but sounds nice

as for gains im not sure... and that might be because i think i have a leak, but i dont feel any losses so im not sure about that one

opps I guess was a digging up the bone yard .
as for the sound .. not much deeper really sounds about the same .. I had a leak when I got it installed but once that was fixed it's hard to tell if theres really much sound difference. power .. well just compare the parts look at the size of the header from base to type-s and the piping is a fair bit bigger also ..If it does not increase power then nothing would .i would guess 2-3 whp not allot I have an auto so I'll take what I can get hehe

Sadly no my friend. You will need a type s catalyst and type s header for it all to work.

Are you absolutely positive about this??

I recently installed an 05 type s exhaust (b pipe & muffler) on my 02 type s and now i have my old 02 type s exhaust sitting on my garage floor that i wanted to install on my wifes' base auto. Wont work?

Let me ask you this if not.....
What can i do to increase the peformance of wifeys car? It only has a drop in K-N filter and nothing more.

The pick up and/or passing power is quite pittiful and i want to improve that with out braking the bank.

Any proven mod recommendations greatly appreciated.

Please help if you can. I should probably just post this as a question by itself
