This is the CF hood used by the Buddy Club DC5R. It came into A&J Racing yesterday.

It's extremely light and the build quality is unbelievable.

The air vent is functional, and it comes with a rain guard for daily use.

It also has the mounting holes for the stock hood's liner, so you won't get the hood flapping at high speed, and you won't need hood pins for daily use.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

How much is it? Is it carbon fiber or carbon kevlar, I am asking cuz the pattern doesn't look like CF...

BTW who makes it?

Spikey

It's carbon fiber

You have a very observant eye ;)

The pattern does look different because the manufacturer has three distinct weaves on the hood. If you look at the two ridge lines that lead to the air vent, those ridge lines divide the hood into three sections. the center section has a straight horizontal weave, and the two side sections' weaves are angled. The craftsmanship is really unbelievable.

The manufacturer is Shift Sports.

The hood looks great but I have one question. Does the hood have a UV protectant on it like the ones from Fiber Images and VIS Racing?

How about the weight savings? What's the diff between the hood (*with the stock hood liner installed) and the stock hood weights?

Hey, that is an awesome hood, but one thing. Doesn't that kind of look like a Mustang (newer ones) hood to you?

The scoop is placed so that it gets hot air out of the engine bay effectively.

And yes, it does resemble the 2003 SVT Mustang hood.

is that hood, carbon fiber weave or carbon fiber paper?

RSeXy
04-06-2002, 04:16 PM
604RSX:
Whats the difference?

604RSX
04-06-2002, 07:56 PM
The difference:

Hood unsually requires 4 layers of carbon fiber for strength and thickness. A true carbon fiber hood uses 4 layers of carbon fiber weave. The weave looks like loose fabric in a role and can be taken apart with easy (destroying it). Once each layer is mixed with a hardener it cure the carbon into the a hard flexible surface. If you open a true CF hood, you can see light right thru it with sun.

Carbon paper is just the pattern of true CF on a sheet of special "paper" and laid on top of Fiberglass. Carbon paper/fiberglass hoods don't have the strength and weight advantages of true CF. They are still lighter then metal hoods, but not as light as CF.

THE only good thing is that Carbon paper made with the right tools, looks almost perfect (weave pattern). Where as CF usually has a small flaw here and there which you wouldn't notice unless you went over the hood closely.

In the end, it comes to personal preference. CF is better for function and strength but Carbon paper, looks cleaner.

So 604RSX:
I would assume that the CF weave is more expensive, right? Ok so which hoods do you know of now that are CF weave and which are CF paper?

I got it from Speed Line Zone. It's OEM style.

Actually, Az already has his from there and it should be installed (he's the one that hooked me up)...but I can't seem to get him to take pics for us.
