View Full Version : Vibration Problem

I just purchased new rims and tires and after the install I am experiencing vibrations in my steering wheel when driving at 100-135km/h (60-80mph)

I went back to get them re-aligned and they found them to be off. I drove home and as soon as I reached those speeds again, the same thing happened.

Does anyone know what else could be wrong? I had to get new wheel nuts and they are tighten to 80. Tires are Kuhmo 712's 225/45/17 and the wheels are D-power TS-05.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Is this a double-post? :dontknow:

Anyways, sounds like someone's doing a sh1tty balance job on the wheels. Take it back.

Somone once told me, some wheels use double-side tape to balance the wheel? don't quote me on this

Also you really have 225/55/17 tire size? if you do post a pic because thats crazy.

Hey, I have the same problems as well. I have 18's on with Kumho 225/40-18 on. Whenever I reach over 65 mph, my whole steering wheel starts shaking. I know it's not suppose to do that. So, do you think it's not balanced correctly or is it something else?

Sorry they are 225/45/17 :)

My Uncle owns the tire shop and double checked them. When I took them back the first time the fronts were out 0.75 and the backs 0.25. He fixed them up, and they are still doing it.

Do you guys have hubcentric rings? (You'll know if you need them buy looking thru the centerbore of your wheel while mounting them. If the centerbore deosn't fit the small circle on the hub exactly, you need hubcentric rings.) They will center your wheel on the hub and hopefully fix your problem.
If you already have these or your wheels don't need them, you need to then rule out balancing problems or tire defects. I had the same problem you 2 gents are having; having my wheels balanced twice at one place, once at another, and still had the same problem.
After researching the subject on the net, I came up with something that saved me from throwing my perfectly good (expensive) wheels out with the garbage. It's called a Hunter GSP9700 Vibration Control System. Sounds technical, and it is. Coolest friggin thing I ever saw. It's a balancer that has a "road roller" that simulates the wheel and tire rolling under load and checks for uniformity, weak spots, runout, and a buttload of other problems that normal balancers can't see. All I did was locate one nearby, (a Toyota dealer) and gave them a call. The guy threw my wheel on a normal balancer for shits, and it was fine, when he put it on this thing, it showed out of balance. Cost me 39.99 to do all four, but it was well worth it. No more shaking/vibes. Here's the link, go to where it says-"Locate a GSP9700."
Hope this helps.

Thanks dirft, I called a local performance shop and they directed me to a place with the exact type of product you are talking about. No more vibrating!

You might have low tire pressure so check the tire pressure and inflate all four tires to recommended psi or u might have worn or damaged tires so inspect tires for obvious problems ( bulges, flat spots, unusual wear) or u can just have the tires rebalanced again at another repair shop but if a standard tire balancing doesn't cure your vibration problem, find a shop with a more sophisticated " Road Force" balancer!

I have the same issue here after I got new rims/wheels. I've gotten the alignment checked and tires balanced 3 times. I know there is the option of taking it to a GSP9700. But the problem could also be bad tires or a bent rim. Now being as I bought everything brand new, including the RSX, I doubt that anything would already be wrong. So my question is this...is there a way you can check for bad tires or a bent rim without taking it to a shop?

I've looked around and even asked some local shops...nothing. The best answer I ever got was "You might just have to put up with it.".....great, thanks.

have you ever competed with your tires? Any really hard stops where you locked up a tire? they could be flat-spotted, which is hard to see but easy to feel.

yea its usually the case, that the wheels needs to be balanced, if thats not the case then, the rims could be bended... thats what happen to mine when i bought mine used one.

Alright, thanks for the input guys! I'll go take a look here in a minute. The funny thing is as soon as I put them on (brand new), the vibration was there. So there wasn't really any time in there where I could've caused an issue with the tire. Oh well, investigation continues.
