ok..i've washed and wax my rsx....using eagle one wet....couple days later...dust starts to gather all around the car....(enough so you can see it)...anyone have this problem? how do you prevent from dust from gathering? i use a very soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the car now and then but it seems to wear of the wax...(not smooth and shiny....more like rough)...its very frustrating...with deep blue color...its very easy to see dirt on the car....what do you do for this?

black car owners are encouraged to reply to this :)

i am not sure about repeling dust, but you could use a cali car duster to remove the dust that is on there, i have one for both inside and out, but i have not had a chance or a need to use one yet.

hope this helps

i think that a lot of that dust is black break dust. the dust seems so be electrically charged a little and it sticks to the car rather intensly, just have to hose it off with water.

i warned so many people not to get black just for this reason... it never looks clean
what i do is clean it about once a week and dry it well
hose off and dry the trouble areas whenever they need it
my car (probe) has a two areas on the rear of the car where dust accumulates. it must just be the aerodynamics of the car or something but just rinse and towel off the spots... don't clean the whole car for a few spots, it gets annoying
good luck with the black rsx man (i wish i had one :) )

Yes, I understand your problem fully. I've owned my RSX for three weeks now, and seem to notice a dust film after a couple of days (particularly evident on the rear bumber area). I garage my car in the evening when I return home from work (this seems to help slow the process a bit). If I happen to be driving over longer distances, or through areas with lots of contruction, I may visit one of those automated touchless car washes at next gas-up (i.e. if I wasn't planning to manually wash the car any time soon).

Good Luck!

PS. Yes, the black seems to be a real dust maget, but I believe it's worth it (none of the other colors look nearly as good!)

i bought the california car duster at the local pep boys and it been working great! nice and soft so it wouldnt hurt the paint and takes dust right off! thanks to the help of paraffin in the bristles....at $10..seems expensive for a duster but is well worth it....brush my car everyday before i leave my garage...looks new everytime :) :) :) :)

This is not a problem, it's called nature. Learn to live with it, there is nothing that you can do. Dust will be the least of your problems in a couple of years once your car has gone through a couple of summers and winters. You have to face the fact that your car will never look like the day that you picked it up from the dealership :(

i wanted to buy one since i got my car almost a month ago but im scared that it will scratch the clearcoat... i have an Arctic blue and clearcoat scratches show pretty well considering that its a pretty dark color. any feedback regarding your duster?

I use Swiffer sheets. (The disposable ones people use to wipe floors). They are very soft and you wont believe how much dust they wipe off even though you never noticed it on your car. Its great!

Sure..and you'll put a hella' alot of fine scratches on yer RSX too if you use those sheets. They aren't lint free afterall!

IMHO

Those Swiffer sheets are designed to trap and hold dust and dirt. Now imagine when you use that on your car, you trap all these dirt and they you wipe it all around the paint surface. The next day when you park the car under the sun, you will see your clearcoat all filled with scratches and full of swirl marks.

Not a good idea. I suggest you leave the dust alone and wash the car after a while.

Thanks guys. No more swiffer for me! What about an old tee-shirt? If not that, then what should I use to wipe the dust off my car? (I don't have time to wash it everytime I go out)

Already mentioned in a previous post, however, I just picked up a "mini" California duster and it works great to quickly and gently remove dust. (Just give problem areas like the rear bumber a quick wipe at the end of the day). Like the others have said, if dirt is heavier than just a coating of dust, you're better off to wash the car, or you'll risk scratching it.

Cheers!

Yes, the California duster will be your best tool to take the dust of the surface of the car. But I have heard many people complaining about long straight light scratches on the car caused by the duster, and also the water blade. I guess if you use the duster or the water blade extensively the scratches will show up sooner or later.

I still think it's better off if you let the dust accumulate than putting scratches on the car.

I agree completely with "stryker" - I've been using a mini CA duster each day on my black RSX for the past week. It's fast, and totally effective in keeping the car looking like it way just washed & waxed. By the way, I also tried Meguier's Gold Glass liquid wax on my car for the first time --- INCREDIBLE PRODUCT!!! Never thought a car could shine like this! (I've noticed even more heads turning on street corners when I drive by than before)

Dust and crap shows up easily on the balck interior. These little things get stuck between the seats and the perforations in the leather also traps dirt. The new dash is cool, but lint gets stuck on there easily.

I cannot believe how much dust builds up. In 98 when i first got my white integra, i dusted it every morning and night. I always wanted it to look presentable. With white, i didnt notice any swirl marks but I've decided not to dust my black rsx. Id rather wait and see others do it first because i did hear that the california duster, which i love, will scratch my paint. A little dust wont hurt. Id rather deal with dust than with the scratches.

i think not only the RSX problem....i have a 2k Accord (black) before......same probelm with the RSX now (black also)

wash and wax can only clean up and avoid the wash spot.....not use with duct......may be u can get some microfiber cloth or polish....it works on clean the dust. ;)
