View Full Version : Dents on door

I notice that the RSX doesn't have side protection on the doors.
Has anyone had trouble with getting dents on the doors made by people that park next to you and open their door carelessly? I'm worried about paring my car in any parking lot, and I'm wondering if the doors in the RSX have a good resistance against dents.

Thanks

I always be very careful about where and how I park...I park in good wide spaces or park next to a curb on one side. Also if you have the option park parrallel, no one next to you to ding you up. :)

Ideally though this is what you do. If you have anyway of getting a hadnicapped parking pass get one. Even if your Grandma has to get it for you, I am sure she'd love to help out her grandson/daughter. Handicap spots are not only really f--king wide but also right up front so no one will just mess with it in plain sight. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS. But my girlfriend just had surgery so she had one and we parked in HC parking all of the frist weekend I got my car cause she couldn't walk long distances. It was really quite nice and made me fell a lot better about leaving my car in a parking lot, especially at night.

And FYI, I never took the only HC spot there was if there was only one availible.

I already have a dent in my rear driver's side panel. i was parked in a wide parking space in a mall parking lot. there was plenty of room! two four doors parked next to me. when walking back to my car I see this beat up ford explorer parked next to me, parked all slanted with his rear wheel on the parking space lines. he was parked like at a 45 degree angle. the people were just about to leave, packing up their car. I started to walk faster toward my car. looked down the driver's side of my car and sticking out like a sore thumb, a F%$#@*g dent. I said "you put a dent in my car" he replies " did I?" he knows he did! sure enough i showed him where his door fit exactly into the dent. got his insurance and they called me back. they are paying to get the dent out or whatever it takes. the guy was really nice about it but his wife was a b*#ch! I mean why can't people learn how to park or just be more considerate of others. well i posted this just to say that if you get a dent and it looks like the car next to you is the one who did it. you can get their insurance to pay to get it fixed.

SkyRSX: You are lucky to catch the guy and he was willing to pay for the damages.

You cannot really avoid door dents unless you sit in your car after it's parked. But there are ways to prevent them. Try to find parking space that is beside the curb, try to park beside expensive cars, moded cars, and lowered cars. Avoid parking beside rusted cars, SUVs, and pick ups.

yeah! I do all of those and more. But sometimes circumstances don't allow. i was parked next to two really nice cars, but you can't prevent them leaving before you.

there really is no way to completely avoid it. people will park all the way in the back of a parking lot, not a car for 10 spaces, and you'll run into one of those annoyed jealous type people who will just hit or key your car just for the fact that you parked there just to avoid it.

i have found that the worst people to park next to, who have absolutely no regard for what is not theirs is foriegners. the elder ones especially, maybe i should say exclusively. living in atlanta i deal with two particular races who are notorious for it. i don't want to offend anyone, that's just exactly how they are.

I experienced this problem back in 87', about 2 weeks after purchasing my first (of 3) Integras. I was so pissed at the 3 dings and one long scratch on my new car, that I wrote down my thoughts and submitted a letter which was published in the "Wheels" section of the Toronto Star.

There's no perfect solution to your problem, however, hear are a few tips I've learned which might help you protect your investment from futher abuse...

1) Park in the nether reaches of parking lots - as far away from the bustling areas as possible (everyone knows about this one)

2) Avoid parking next to any vehicle which looks like a "history book of lost battles" - try to park next to cars which look like they have as much to lose (or more) than you do (i.e. Porches, BMW's, other Acura's, etc.)

3) Try to park next to cars with 4 doors (as opposed to 2) - doors on 4-door vehicles tend to be shorter and swing through smaller arcs

4) Whenever possible select parking spots where you will be adjacent to the passenger side of neighboring vehicles (cars always have a driver, but may not have a passenger) - no passenger means no door to open into your car if that vehicle leaves before you do.

5) NEVER park at an angle (e.g. like Porche/Ferrari drivers sometimes do) - this tends to piss people off; sometimes enough to want to personally inflict damage to your vehicle.

6) Take the bus or a less treasured vehicle (if you're fortunate to have one) whenever you go shopping! (Let's face it - leaving your car at home in the safety of your garage, is the best way to protect your investment!)

Good Luck!;)

I don't quite agree with this one. Even though there's always a driver for each car, the driver is usually an adult, so he will probably be more careful when opening doors and knows how it feels to get dents on the doors. Where as seniors and little kids is more likely to open the passenger doors carelessly to dent the car adjacent to it.

Yup. One time I was sitting in my car waiting for the women to come out of the store and a camaro parks next to me on the left and a little boy flings open the passenger door and dents the hell out of my car.

Another time in Montery Park, CA (the new china town) an elderly chinese woman comes out the passenger side of a camry and dings my car.

You try to be carefull but things can happen not matter what precautions you take.

Guys, thanks for your help. It is useful to know these ways to avoyd getting dents (or dings). I'll do my best to preserve my doors, but I think I'd better not be too parannoyd about it as well, because if I am I think I'll end up not enjoying the car to the fullest. Thanks for your help. :)

You guys are all lucky. I got my RSX on the 2nd of July, and that weekend, when i was inspecting the car there was a ding on the front passenger side! it was pretty sad; I think I narrowed it down to when I was in the movie theater or somethin... :(

Have you guys ever heard of Paintless Dent Repair? Basicly what we do is get behind the door panel and massage the dent back to it's original shape. It's cheaper than to bondo and repaint the door plus you get to keep your factory paint.

:D

No offense to anybody here, but I'm so glad I'm not the only one getting dings. I have had my RSX for three weeks now and I have 3 dings already, all out of my control. I followed everybodies tips. I park miles from the entrances of malls, movie theaters, etc; places where no one is parked, but people still park next to me and ding it up :firemad: And it's always the same type of car; A big American made boat that has 430968046985 dents and scratches in it. I took down one guys license plate number once and called my insurance company but they tell me I can't prove they did it, so I'm screwed. I had one removed by a dent wizard, one of those paintless dent remover companies, it worked great and cost $50 bucks. ONE day later I get another ding on the opposite side. At that point I just said screw it, I'll just have to learn to live with them. I think Acura might want to work on some better ding/dent resistant material for their cars. :dontknow:

I have been fortunate so far, not a single door ding or anything. Knock on wood!

I find that parking next to other new cars is the best way to go. Just about anyone with a new car is fairly good about opening their doors, because they dont want dents either.

I just wish people would take the time to be careful. I'm ALWAYS careful when I open my doors. I'd feel really bad if I door dinged another car.

There is really nothing you can do about it. I try to park far away but the minute I start walking away someone has already parked beside me. It really pisses me off because there are tons of parking spots left that are closer and easier to get to.
