My 2004 Type-S is a daily driver, I drive 200-250 miles a week. Also I drag race at the track 3-5 times a year.

I want to keep the stock tires dimensions 205/55/16

Both tires have the same Specifications:

Treadwear: 360
Traction: A
Temperature: A
Speed Rating: VR

But different load ratings:

Ziex ZE-512 - 91
ST-115 - 94 (higher load capacity than the Ziex ZE-512)

The infomation above is from http://www.discounttiredirect.com

My question is what tire would be best for me?

Thanks
Keith

Go with with 512's. It's a great all year round tire. In fact I've road raced my RSX at Summit Point with 512's on I thought for the money they did great.

I'm also stuck in between these 2 tires. I'm kind of leaning towards the st-115 because i heard they are quiet.

Bump for some answers with pro's/con's!

Are you ever going to drive in snow? If not, get the ST-115s. I was one of the first on the board to get these and continue to run them as summer tires. They are quiet and perform very well in the rain and at an auto-x. For the price you can't beat them. I have them wrapped around ATS Comp Lites (15.5 lbs) 17"x7.5" w/ the ST-115s in 225-45-17. They make for a great combination especially matched with the A-Spec suspension and Type-R - 22mm rear sway.

Good luck.

which is better for daily driving? the ST-115 or ZE-512?

and are the ST-115's noticeably quieter than the ZE-512's?

They are noticeably quieter than any other high performance tire I have run or road in. Most performance tires start out quiet but over time as the tread pattern wears the tread blocks begin to talk. With the ST-115s, I have not experienced an increase in volume that is noticeable over the usage of the tires. For daily driving you will get better traction with the ST-115 because of the tread design and block size. It is designed for dry and wet traction, absolutely no snow. The 512s are designed as an all-season and can handle most weather conditions (remember to never out drive your tires).

I'm curious about two things:

1. With either tire, how do they compare/contrast noise-wise to the stock tires?

2. Is there any noticable difference performance with the new tires over stock?

Right now I've got stock suspension on my '06 S, but plan to add a rear sway bar and get new shocks & springs in the future. I'm in southern California so I don't have to really worry about snow and rain is fairly limited, although when it does rain I can tell the stock tires lose a significant amount of grip. Although I don't drive on wet roads often, I still want to be sure I have traction when I do have to drive them. So I can't tell if the all season tires are what I should look into or if the summer tires would also be fine.

**EDIT**
I was just on the discount tire website and did a search for the tires that would fit the stock 17" wheels and the Falkens didn't come up even though they have the tires on the site.

Your welcome. I enjoying giving advice when the person asking is receptive. Most folks on here never respond once advice is given. Good luck in your purchase.

Also, I think these are some of the best performing tires in the rain.

st115. i had 225/45/17s on my old car and they performed real well. real quiet too. i really loved them. plus they have a lot of grip in rain (the 2 huge grooves in the pattern) they also stick to the pavment during dry weahter too. they dont preform as well as the rt215s in dry, but these can be on all year round also. i say get the st115. spend the extra hundred bucks or so to get them. you wont regret it. good luck :]

Treadwear #'s: "The higher the number, the longer you can expect the tread to last."

That's what http://auto.howstuffworks.com/tire2.htm says.

Only 20k miles for the Falken ZE 512's (Treadwear 360)? The stock tires have a Treadwear of 300.

You must be running your tires really hard then?

Both the ZE 512's and ST-115's have the same Treadwear of 360. I would think they would last a little bit longer than the stock tires (Treadwear 300).

FYI: I have 25K miles on the stock tires (Daily driving and drag racing at the track). The stock tires should last me until 30K miles. Then the ST-115's will be on.

Thanks

i have had both, and continue to sell both......i prefer to sell falken over any other, due to price and overall quality......st115 are so versitile in rain, at the track and are the most quiet tires i have ever ridden on......and 512's are not far off.....i find the 512'd ride a little smoother (softer sidewall maybe).....and handling is a little better, but wear faster (i know they have the same treadwear rating), and tire for tire they are a little cheaper

115's are extremely quiet. i had them on my old rims untill i got in a wreck and ruined the wheels and tires. i thought my car needed insulation untill i put those suckers on. they also hold the road well, but if your just looking for a tire better than the stock micheline...i dont think theres a tire out there with more road noise and slip on the road as bad as the michelines do...but if its between the 512's and 115's...go for the 115's

I did not get my new tires yet. I am still debating on which tire to get.

I did some research and found out that (1) Falken ZE-512 tire weight 4 Lbs. less than (1) Falken ST-115 tire.

Both tires weights:

Falken Ziex Ze 512
20.5Lbs.
205/55/16

Falken Azenis St115
24.5Lbs.
205/55/16

I have read and been told that the heavier the tire; the more power and time will be needed to get them moving from a stop.

My question is if I do get the Falken ST-115 will my quarter mile time be slower?

Keep in mind that (4) Falken ST-115 tires weight 16 Lbs. more than the (4) Falken ZE-512 tires.

Thanks

hmm that's some good reasearch you did there! I was going to look for the weights between the two since I'm also stuck between the two tires, but you saved me from doing it!

How much does the stock tires weigh compared the two falkens listed in this thread?

I also wonder how much noise difference there is between both falken tires?

the difference in weight will be noticed....it wont be tremendous...but if you would run two different setups back to back...you would feel it......2nd question is yes, one is quieter..... the st 115 tires....the quietest i have ever used, i have used everything from pirelli, bf goodrich, goodyear, dunlap, yokohama.....i have tried them all.....(over 30 sets of wheels and tires from low riders to imports...to suv's....

I previously had ST-115s mounted on the car until it went bald so I got myself a set of ZE-512s and mounted it on today.

I must say they are VERY comfortable tires to ride on. The comfort level is along the lines of the ST-115 (I personally feel that the ZE-512 are a bit more comfy to ride on).

In terms of noise, even when the tread level was low on the ST-115s, it was still quieter in than ZE-512s. However, the noise level in general is very low. It's not annoying in anyway and gives a good, low-noise ride.

In terms of handling, the ZE-512s stick pretty well. It's not as sticky as the ST-115s which isn't surprising, but it still gets the job done for it's particular level of function.

Weight is somewhat noticable. The ZE-512s are a little more lighter than the ST-115s.

I can't guage how long these tires will last in comparison to the ST-115s based on personal experience (and for the most part, just daily driving), but I must say, they both have their pros and cons that equally balance out.

Thus in conclusion, going with either tires will yield to a great experience. The point is you can't go wrong when you decide between these two.

would the grip of the st115 make up for the weight of it though? thats all i was wondering. like if you get better grip with the 115 but the 512 weighs less and doesnt grip as well then which one would u have a faster quarter mile with? i have the 512's right now and i love mine.

The ST115 is an extremely quiet setup and they provide for a nice ride, but I can't really say much more than that. After doing endless research and seeing that the last post on this tire was more than a year ago, I wish I had went with something else. At $117 each, I was expecting a little more performance-wise. These tires are more of an all-season type imo. Furthermore, I can't tell a big difference from my old stockies except that they're really really "quiet," but that was never a concern. Guess once winter comes around I appreciate them more.

guess it's a gamble just about no matter what you get, thanks for the info btw,

Seems like the main thing I hear about these Falken's is how quick they wear out.

ugg you got me second guessing myself man lol.. just looked at consumer reports and the 912 is like one of the best UHP all season tires rated but does show poor tread life as well

I am planning on getting a new pair of snow tires and running my rt-615s on my new wheels that i will get after winter. I would not recommend the rt-615s though unless you are doing alot of road coarses because it has extremely soft rubber. I have had these tires for about 5 months and i took my wheels off and there are actual little rocks stuck up inside the rubber. I didnt know that they were that soft when i got them and was just mainly looking for good summer/drag street tires but guess the best way to find out is to test it out.

Tires b4 that were parada spec2's and i thought they did good for summer tires but absolutely horrible in the rain but good besides that.

I am using my stockies now just for snow wheels so what would be the best tires for mainly snow tires?

Sorry for the some what hijack
