I've always wanted a tattoo. There was another tattoo thread that I posted some of my designs in. Personally, if I get a tattoo, it has to be one I design, and I have to really fall in love with the design, or art. Some of them I just think Hey that's cool, then a couple weeks later I don't really like it much.

But here are some old ones (ranging from 4months-2yrs), random ideas throughout the paper of what might be a good tattoo, what might not. I don't have any new ones scanned.

This one is pretty old, about a year but I seem to be drawn to it and I even drew it on myself just for kicks:

I have a lot more ideas but they're pretty cliched ones. tribal designs, patterns, shapes, and what not. One of these days I'm going to sketch one that I really like and maybe actually finalize it. I'm also not into huge art pieces of dragon, demon, fish, or anything. I want something that relates to me. Most of those pieces up there are heavily influenced by graffiti and music because that used to be a huge part of me and still is.

first off, your designs look absolutely sick. but the only problem about getting them done as tattoos is that there's way too many intricate lines and patterns. when there's so much detail and so many lines that are close together, it will look really good for the first year or two.. but when the tattoo starts getting older and starts to fade, it'll all inevitably blend together and look just like one big blob.

if you can simplify your patterns and line work, it'll come out hot as hell on your skin. especially that first one

Unless you plan on getting your full back or full front side done or any part fully done, any tattoo artist will tell you it would be very difficult to get in all the detail unless its enlarged, or detail is dropped. keep that in mind when youre sketching

i do the same. i sit for an hour and a half to two hours depending on how much time i have. don't get me wrong he is a good artist. i just think he works slow is all. nothing wrong with it but it will leave you twice as sore compared to a faster artist.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I do realize there is a lot of detail in the designs, but that's me. I love little details. I want the different aspects of the design to all connect and intertwine with each other. Also these aren't finalized/cleaned up or anything so there are alot of chicken scratches. Many of the lines in the sketches can go and be replaced with shading, it's just that working with a pen, it's hard to shade with different values so I gotta cross-hatch it.

When I do decide on one though, I'll do a line art of everything enlarged, and then add shading, and then go on from there.

I'm in no hurry, I'm not even 18 yet. I've been coming up with different ideas for years though. So one of these days when I'm really set on it, I'll pursue it. As of right now, they're just concepts in my head. I also don't know any tattoo artists :[

Right now I'm also beggining to look at more work-in-progress tattoos to see the whole process and adjust my sketches accordingly. Miami Ink is a great show :D

I took duffman's advice just relax, if anything your nervousness will cuase you more stress/agony then actual pain. The pain goes away after the intial start as your body just kicks in endorphins etc. Youb eing nervous/ or even controlling your breathing will have more effect on you.

Dont worry. After the first minute, it starts to feel pretty good. Not as bad as people make it out to be. But then again, I have a high tolerance for pain. When you get one, you will want more. Just make sure to get the ones you really want. Dont be like most people and regret it later.
