After watching the latest episode, it occured to me that the island has the ability to manifest itself into whatever someone wants. But it also seems to read and magnify their subconcious. I had the thought that because Ben's mother died while giving birth to him, he may have subconciously influenced the island to do the same to all pregnant women on the island?

Just like Ben killing his dad (seems to have) lead to the death of all of Dharma, the island is manifesting his subconcious guilt and anger into the death of the pregnant woment on the island?

Ben clearly knew the Purge was coming, so I think we're going to find that he saved Annie. (I really think if she had been dead the scene with the bodies in the village would have made a bigger point of it.) I think she became pregnant with Ben's child, and that she was the first mother to die on the Island, and no birth was successful on the Island sense until Aaron.

Are we all forgetting the "Bad Twin" allusion from last season? Or how about when Locke is playing backgammon in the first season and his eyes become black and white games pieces? Black obviously representing evil, white representing good. And what are the two colors of the ying-yang? Black and white.

And let's not forget the fact that the person in the screen cap looks exactly like Locke, with a robe/hood of some sort.

I haven't quite figured out the specifics, though. Perhaps Locke of a previous life time/line is trapped on the island as an "evil" Locke (the ring of some sort of element around the house being used to keep him within the cabin) and the good Locke was brought to the island somehow subconsciously, and he also subsconsciously brought the entire plane and passengers with him. Of course this is all theory.

This would also explain why "Jacob" said "help me" to Locke. Jacob needs to reunite once again with Locke to become One. Much like in The Matrix when Neo (good/ying) becomes one with Smith (evil/yang) at the end of Matrix Revolutions. I'm sure other allusions can be drawn to other films and pieces of literature.

As for HOW Jacob/Locke became trapped on the island, who knows. Perhaps Locke was a member on board the old pirate ship that capsized onto the island many, many years ago in a previous life time. Again, all just speculation.

But is Locke dead? Absolutely not. He is the most important member of the show, period. In fact, if Locke is Jacob, he IS the show. He IS the island.

The most human thing Ben did so far, even more human than keeping Annie's doll, was to close Horace's eyes after the purge. For some reason this seemed touching to me. It was as if Ben was being apologetic to Horace and the DHARMA crew, who in retrospect had never truly wronged him.

The body of the guy holding the hose really got me thinking. Somehow, after all this went down, Ben was able to persuade the Others (hostiles) to take over the Dharma community. He taught them to run the generators, to live in the homes, to hold a weekly book club. In the end they were cutting the grass and mending the fences and had every bit become those who they'd deemed must be purged from the island. In the end, they became the same enemy they couldn't co-exist with.

This explains much of Richard's displeasure with Ben's leadership. He led them to stray from the native paths of the island. He introduced technology under the guise of fixing the fertility problem, but in doing so he destroyed their purity.

There is a very important concept in time travel here, which is that you can NEVER travel back further in time than the creation of your time machine; Hence the impossibility of visiting the dinosaurs, etc. Now, if the two doors of your time machine were separated by only 108 minutes at the initial "event", but then allowed to just sit there, then both timelines would progress at the same pace, forever separated by only 108 minutes. Traveling to the past, but only by 108 minutes, would not be very interesting. Much more exciting would be to keep Door #2 back at the original time of its inception, while Door #1 continues to move forward in time. You could do this by continually "resetting" the clock on Door #2. Over time, the separation between the two doors would grow and grow, from minutes, to hours, to days, to years.

The question isn't, Where is the Island? The question is, When is the Island? The answer to that depends on how long ago, in the present timeline, the time machine was created... approximately 14 years ago, I believe.

Great episode. My favourite scene was when they shot Charlie's ring in the baby carriage and it fades to Charlie's empty fingers pushing the boat. Great directing, I watch out and appreciate that sort of stuff!

Well I'll save my opinon on the "fillers" of Season 3, until I see the last 3 seasons. The writers said before since they did not know how long ABC wants to keep the show running for, they had no time frame to write the story. Now that they know there's 3 seasons left, they can pace the story accordingly.
