ALRIGHT! So the "top secret" trailer was displayed before Transformers. The temporary title is called "Cloverfield" and it sure as hell looks great. This movie looks so god damn interesting. All we know is: 1. It's a monster movie 2. The monster is dubbed "The Parasite" 3. It's going to be shot with handheld video cameras to show the human point of view during the 'attack'. It comes out January 18, 2008.

Even though JJ Abrams came out and said that the “Ethan Haas” websites had nothing to do with Cloverfield some people still wanted to believe that they did. Abrams has been known to lie when it comes to his viral websites for LOST, so why would this be any different. Well apparently the Ethan Haas website is actually for an upcoming table-top RPG game. There are a few clues which you can find by reading over here, but basically if you look at the source code for the ethan haas site, the 1-8-18 site and the slusho.jp site, you will notice that only 2 of the 3 are using the google analytics on them… bet you can guess which 2. But that’s not even the most compelling evidence. Head on over here to take a look at the final screen from the Ethan Haas website as compared to a piece of imagery found on the servers for this table-top RPG game. Look pretty similar don’t they?

In total, the book is 360 pages. BUT with just The Call of Cthulhu, it's around a 30 page short story. I was kinda surprised about it being a short story. I would've preferred a whole book on it, but it does look like quite the read regardless.

Oh, one more Pokemon coincidence, the kids on slusho.com (boy & girl = the two Pokemon kids) are under water. The Pokemon monster Dragomon is a sea animal!

Pike’s book, from what I’ve read of it online, is super-duper heavy and hard to follow… But from what I did read of it, there are references within it to a prophecy of 4 beasts, the first of which has the head of a lion…

Which leads me to the next thing I’ve been thinking about, especially after watching the trailer a few more times… At first, I thought that I heard, near the end ‘It’s Alive’… However, after listening to it a little bit further, I get “It’s A Lion” (which makes more sense than ‘It’s Alive’)

So, linking that with some of the other stuff people have been saying (the movie being about the biblical apocalypse, something coming out of the ocean - alluded to by the fact that the Statue of Liberty is one of the first things demolished) I did some keyword searching. It seems to me that the ingredient Slusho may cause some sort of genetic mutation, after all if is a "Toxic Industry's Junk" so to speak. If anything is going to create a giant creature capable of destroying NYC, then prolonged exposure to toxic waste in an environment where the underwater pressure on the expanding body basically means it can grow to enormous sizes...seems like the logical cause.
Look at creatures like the giant squid, whales, and other deep sea creatures. They are already fairly massive in size, imagine exposing an already huge animal to toxic waste that could cause mutations.

Abrams codename for the creature 'The Parasite' works for this theory. Imagine that this creature needs the ingredient in slusho to survive. But the company has drained it all from its original location, where the 'monster' was happy to stay and avoid human contact. However, once the stuff that it's been living off for the past however many years, has been removed, it traces it from the ocean right to NYC where Slusho has been mass produced and is all over the city. The monster is attacking to secure it's food, what keeps it alive. Much like a parasite would.

The movie is most likely not going to explain all this, simply because it is rumored to be mainly shot on handheld cameras. But I'm sure coincidence will come into play and Rob will be working for Slusho or something like that and everything will be conviently explained for us.

Just wanted to mention something, maybe everyone else has already seen this.

In the trailer (best viewed at large HD res) at the :54 mark, as the guys are emerging onto the roof, the camera does an odd ‘zoom’ effect. This caught my eye, so I examined the frames.

At exactly :54 in the preview, the exact focus of the zoom shot becomes clear for one frame. It is a shot of a window or something across the street, and it appears to be a drawing of some kind of creature, or demon, or maybe even a robot. I lean towards demon because the head seems to have two ‘ram’s horns’ on it.

I don’t have any way to post a screen shot, but I can describe it: large round head, dark eyes in the center, a few spiky ‘hairs’, two large round-shaped ‘horns’ or maybe ears, skinny neck, two arms which appear to be reaching or grasping, raised shoulder, and a squarish torso which appears to have buttons or rivets running down the middle, slightly off-center. Nothing appears below the torso.

I can’t believe that Abrams would go to the trouble of making this thing to this level of detail and this very clear drawing NOT being important somehow.

Unfortunately, I don’t know of any way to search a database of crude drawings, but maybe someone else will be able to recognize it. Once you see it, you’ll want to post a screen shot as well, I would hope.

So I came across this theory... Don't know if it has anything to do with post 55, but I'll post it anyways.

So what in biblical mythology has connections to the slew of references in the trailer? The three great monsters.

In Jewish belief, Behemoth is the primal unconquerable monster of the land, as Leviathan is the primal monster of the waters of the sea and Ziz the primordial monster of the sky.

1) The first monster roar is accompanied by an earthquake (Behemoth)
2) The second monster roar is accompanied by a huge fireball (Leviathan, for it can breathe fire)
3) The third monster roar is accompanied by the flying Statue of Liberty head (Ziz).

The guy who says "maybe we can get a better view from the roof" has the Slusho logo on his shirt. Slusho is a classic J.J. Abrams icon, and it has appeared in both Alias and Lost, which are his shows.

Slusho.jp has, by now, been confirmed as a part of the viral marketing campaign revolving around 1-18-08. Japan. Strangely enough, the character Rob, who is present in the trailer, was gonna fly to Japan a day after that party and the monster events.

Let's have a look around on that site. Not all pages are accessible. But there is an odd feature about the pages that are available. The main page background is on land, the Downloads page background is on air, and the History page background is on sea.

Furthermore, the six buttons on the main page cause popups of various animals, namely a Horse, a Whale and a Bird. Behemoth, Leviathan, Ziz.

Although the discussion about the J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield / 1-18-08 project has been going crazy over at the first post (with 963 comments right now), some updates have hit that just need to be shared with everyone who may be the slightest bit interested. Thanks to Peter over at SlashFilm who has been following this closely, there are a few new set photos, story updates including details on a Coney Island flashback scene that was shot on location, and more!

The most interesting news is that the film will work in a flashback style, where some kids are found at Coney Island after the monster has destroyed New York City and they find a camera and pick it up and watch it from the start. This quote comes from an article at New York Post that's digging further into the film.

“It's about an alien that wipes out all of New York City. The footage is taken the day before everyone dies. A bunch of kids come to Coney Island with a video camera. The movie is a flashback to that day."

The scenes were apparently filmed at the now-defunct and chained-up B&B Carousell, the famous boardwalk and at a hot buttered corn booth. That puts to rest any consideration that it might be Godzilla or Cthulhu or anything else. As has been said before, this is pretty much an original project from J.J. Abrams and his team, and isn't an adaptation of something we might already know.

Here's more confirmation from a different source over at AICN that the film indeed does work this way. Sounds even more exciting? It most certainly does!

“The film starts with a rescue crew cleaning up after the entire incident, and one of them finds a camera. They rewind the tape, press play… and the playback is the movie that unfolds."

For those who are still curious at to the name of the film and are trying to figure out what to call it, whether it be Cloverfield, 1-18-08, or something else, that will all be resolved soon. J.J. Abrams will be at Comic-Con in the panel from Paramount on Thursday afternoon and a source at SlashFilm has confirmed that the official title will be revealed at that time (or so we really hope). We will be at the panel on-hand to be the first to report all of what J.J. Abrams has to say, and possibly even a new clip from the film.

Lastly, a scooper for SlashFilm sent them two set photos that are (unconfirmed) from the actual set of Cloverfield, which has mostly been shooting in Los Angeles.

Some details are starting to come together on Cloverfield, but the film still remains a big mystery, and that's what continues to fuel the buzz. It's great to see a project like this really get so much buzz, because in Hollywood nowadays all-too-often a film is drowned with spy set photos, set reports, and too much coverage. This one just took off in a matter of minutes and has quickly turned into something huge.

If you live in the Washington D.C. area you probably listen to “Elliot In the Morning” on D.C. 101. If you do, you may have heard an odd caller on Tuesday morning. He was calling from California telling Elliot that he was sending photos in to him and the show with Speilberg with one of the Slusho t-shirts. Why does this matter you ask…

August 1, 2007 - Is J.J. Abrams' top secret monster movie project, codenamed "Cloverfield," actually entitled Overnight? Possibly, but nothing is certain with this mysterious flick.

Sleuthing done by the Slashfilm.com website reveals that a new trademark for the title "Overnight" was recently registered. The "Cloverfield" connection is that attorneys registering the trademark are known associates of J.J. Abrams, and have previously registered the Slusho.jp website, along with the trademarks "Slusho!," "Slusho! You can't drink just six," and the name of Abrams' production company, Bad Robot.

What do we all think of Overnight? Well, they couldn't actually call it Cloverfield, we suppose -- that just wouldn't make any damn sense. And it's better than "Monstrous," the most recently rumored moniker for the movie.

Obviously, the title would refer to the disastrous events of the film that take place over the course of a single night in New York City.
