Honestly though. The car is fast I give you that. That is a big reason why it's so hated. It's cheap and can be made faster cheap too.
But what I want to know is if you guys really wanted the car or if you just "settled" for it because you couldn't get something else.

to be honest, i didnt think much of the srt-4 before i bought it, i though it was a turbo'd neon, but then i started doin research about it, I found out that the srt-4 is built much different from the regular neon(different suspension, diff. motor and trans, etc. the only thing that it shares is the shell and the interior panels, along with the head & tail lights.Then my cousin bought a srt-4 before i did, so i got to test drive it and i liked it. I like the way it looks, looks very aggressive with a FMIC too. people who talk down on it are ignorant(at least about the car) and dont have the balls to buy an american 4-banger because they scared of reliability issues. And all of the stories about srt-4 breakin down and blowin up motors.....well any car that is modded the way a srt-4 get modded is gonna break down sooner or later, before moddin u should know that you will throw all of ur reliability crap down the drain.
well there's my story, i like my car and im proud of it. I hope you are proud of your own car too, whatever ur reasons may be.

I don't remember if any of you followed up on the SRT4 back in 01-02. But i remember they were talking about it coming out and the picture i saw was, A black SRT4 with White Racing stripes coming down from the hood and the Specs were:
2.0L

Supercharged Fwd
Topspeed 145+mph
0-60....sub 6sec.
This is what i remember reading through on the Magazines when they were producing the SRT4. But Everything has changed

This is a good question and one that I will take seriously.
I love the car. Always have. I even like the interior on it.
I was actually going to buy a 350Z, but since I am tighter than hell, I was dreading making a car payment that was going to run over 500 dollars a month. I loved the way the 350 looked, though.
But then..........
I started reading some things about the neon in motor trend and Car and Driver and stuff, and I saw some of the times that the little bitch was putting down. 0-60 in less than six seconds??? 13 second 1/4 mile times??? The 350 wasn't putting down trap speeds this good.
And so I test drove one in 04, and really liked them...a lot. However, the dealer would not budge on the price, and since I am tight, I wasn't about to pay retail for the damned thing. I bought a mustang in the meantime, because I got a helluva deal on it, and didn't buy the 350 because they were having some kind of tire issue. I didn't hate the mustang, but I just didn't like it. If I had a mustand, I wanted a cobra, not the GT thing that I had.
I couldn't get that stupid neon out of my mind. I then read where the stage kits were putting down ridiculous times for not too much money, and that just got me started on them again. The more I read on the things, the more I became impressed with them.
I hated dodge products before I bought this car, and I couldn't have told you anything about a neon before the SRT came along. Anyhow, I went back to the lot again and thought I would look at it and the cobalt, becuase they had just come out. The cobalt was okay, but did nothing for me. I drove the neon again....same feeling...just loved it.
I then made up my mind that I was going to buy one, and I went out and sent out six faxes to six different dealers and having them send me quotes for the cheapest price I could buy one for. After six weeks, I finally got the car that I have for the price that I wanted.
I guess you could make an argument that I settled, because I didn't want to pay the high dollar price of the 30 plus thousand sports cars. I have never felt that way, though. I have always felt that I got a bargain.....a real bang for the buck. I've had a lot of cars that I have spent WAY too much money on, and I won't ever make that mistake again.
I like it because it is hated. I like it because it beats those that it shouldn't. I like it because it isn't respected. Every other car I ever had was always expected to be fast. This one is always the under dog. I will never again spend the high dollars on cars that I used to in my life, because it is such a waste of money to me. What gives me my enjoyment is the bang for the buck.
After having the car for almost three years, I can pretty much say that there isn't much I don't like about it. I hate the boost leaks, and at times, they will drive me insane. I have never bought the t-clamps that I should have to reduce the leaks, but I someday will. And there are times that I don't like the front wheel drive, and when I someday will buy another car, I will buy rear wheel drive, but overall, this car has been all that I thought it would be---and all for 350 a month.

There's a Neon in Pittsburgh I've seen twice that had LCD screens in the back of its headrests and has blue lights on the inside. It's also blue btw. Sucks it isn't an SRT-4 though.

i was looking at a 350z, cobalt ss s/c, and ion redline, and lastly the srt-4.
i still love the little fucker, and always will. i loved how it drove, how it felt behind the wheel, the sound of the exhaust...everything. its just a fun fucking car to drive, end of story.
for those that talk shit on it and have never driven on..drop the biased bullshit and try one and just beat the piss out of it. guaranteed to put a smile on your face. the harder you beat on it, the more it comes alive and seems to just beg for more.

see, i didnt really like it at first..but it grew on me. granted, the 'side view' doesnt seem right, and the thing NEEDS a good set of drop springs, but eh..i love the front/rear views of the car. but yeah, if it were awd, even part-time, it would be even more cherry. but hell, for the price and what you get for it, you really cant deny that its a great bargain.
and yeah, i hate the younger skittle owners. i have some of them rev on me now. i just look over and laugh and ask what they have done..i then begin to tell them what mods they should get and they just look at me all consfused and shit...silly ricers.

Vlad...you are right. The driver's of them can just wear you out. The one thing I love about it is that it is affordable, but that's the knock on it too, because every kid can have one. They may be worse than some of the RSX fanbois.
Keeb....can totally relate. I've always said that if you could somehow let someone drive the neon without them being able to know what it is, they would totally see it differently than they do now. Just a shame how people let their biases keep them from seeing it for what it is.

a buddy of mine has one...cai/wga/tbe(side exhaust no resonator/etc) and apexi safc....tuned and whatnot....VERY peppy little thing....it pulls and it pulls hard, not to mention how hardcore it sounds.....its just funny to see him battle 1st and 2nd gears for traction every time he floors it:mam:

yeah..after about 3 bolt ons, you dont have traction in first anymore. kinda funny, but pretty shitty at the same time. it lives for the highway..not near as much as a supra, but the highway is the srt's home. there is a vid of a .50 trim skittle pulling on a c5 z06 (with nitrous) on the top end..pretty impressive if i may say so.

I remember when I 1st read about the srt in 01 in a magazine there was a picture of a yellow one with a graffiti wall backround with no hood scoop and I believe it was supercharged in the specs.

i beleive the supercharged one is the black one from motortrend...i still have that magazine....and the yellow one was already a turbo production model that JUST came out and they made comments about it "having a wing worthy of any hot-rodders eclipse" or someshit...i still have that picture in one of the motor-trend magazines too..shit, i have too many c/d and m/t:laughing:

hell, there are wrx's doing low 12's on them too, lots of folks actually like to take that route: max that little td04 the fuck out with ultra high psi (25psi is the most ive seen yet) on race gas, ewg, port/polish, etc....and with that much psi the turbo spools QUICK with torque jumping like a freight train at like 2500rpm:eek:
yeah, its not too bad i guess, especially when compared to the vw's turbos':laughat:

have you actually driven a Cobalt SS? its really quite disappointing... steering sucks, transmission not so nice (maybe something i'd get used to?)... fucking rev limiter came in before the redline, and second gear felt like it was trying to do some weird traction control thing (and i don't even know if it has traction control...) oh and it has really bland styling (but that's subjective).
I want to think that it was just isolated crapiness on that particular (new) car, but i really don't know, as i've only driven one. It may be fast (though it didn't really feel like it), but the fun to drive factor just wasn't quite there...
As for the SRT-4, i strongly considered getting one, but ended up getting the RSX as they kept pushing the release date back... shame they replaced it with that new thing that looks like a matrix...

The Mini Cooper S dominates its class, but sadly whenever something can challenge it the SCCA pretty much purposely prevents it from becoming competition. Like the RSX Type-S A-Spec is not allowed to run in the same class. In fact, the A-Spec springs and shocks put the Type-S into STS... which is a huuuuge class, meaning it isn't very competitive anymore. The ITR still beats it, but the ITR is in a "higher" up class.
Damned fast little Mini Coopers....

Honestly though. The car is fast I give you that. That is a big reason why it's so hated. It's cheap and can be made faster cheap too.
But what I want to know is if you guys really wanted the car or if you just "settled" for it because you couldn't get something else.
Meh, all I was looking at was a wrx or an srt-4. The only subies I could find around the price I wanted had more miles than I cared for. Then I found a desperate dealer selling an 05 srt-4 for 17,700 w/ 12,xxx miles so I bought it. The srt-4 is the car.....that has made be loath fwd.

I looked at the Rsx S and Srt4 back in 2004. I liked the srt4 all around, I liked both cars. I was nervous about buying a domestic from dodge. It later showed it was a reliable car but I was unsure how it would hold up at the time. I've always liked the srt4. If it had been a Ford or Chevy I would have gotten it. So I purchased another import for myself. I have a lot of love for the srt4. The owners usually not so much.

Yup, you're right. But if we wanted to get into semantics, I don't drive a honda. That being said, previous to this car I wasn't into "the scene", as it's called. Now that I am, there's NO car you can own that doesn't have it's share of fuckwads. But, to me, the SRT4 owners are some of the worst. Well, they're right up there with mexi-ricers.

I highly doubt i would get rid of it, its paid off for:D.

i bought the car because it was a cheap pocket rocket. if i wanted a car for any other reason i would have gotten something better than an rsx which offers nothing. for example, when i bought the srt-4 i had gotten a tsx, which takes your rsx and shits all over it in the categories you posted above

I don't know many SRT-4 owners that fell in love with the car as soon as they saw it. I'm not downplaying what the SRT-4 is. It is a cheap fast car.

The TSX is luxury. The RSX is not. The K24 isn't as good of a tuner motor as the K20A2 or Z1. What it is good for is the bottom end though. That with one of our heads along with a few other mods gives you a high reving frank motor.
To say the RSX offers nothing is very ignorant and this sub forum has no place for ignorant fucks like yourself.

when i saw the srt-4 and what it had to offer i immediately jumped on it. i was driving a GSR at the time and was in the midst of putting F/I on it when i started hearing about the srt-4. your contradicting your own question, the srt-4 owners bought the car for the same reason you bought yours, something appealed to them. for me it was cheap, fast, fun. ive always been someone who enjoys an under dog car. i liked that it had 4 doors so i could drive me friends around, i liked that it had a turbo instead of a supercharger and the more i read up on it the more it seemed like a fun car to mod (which is what i was looking for). did it have a crappy interior? yes, no doubt about it. but that had nothing to do with why i was looking at the car. i bought the rsx as daily driver and quickly realized i was not happy at all in it. it wasnt fast, and the interior was crappy, not as crappy as the srt-4 but nothing id brag about either. i just didnt enjoy it at all. so i traded in my rsx for the tsx so i could at least have the four doors and some upgraded luxury and amenities. the srt-4 was never ment to be anything besides a balls to the walls pocket rocket for me.
so when you say settle i get a bit confused, because to me the rsx offers nothing over the srt-4. yes the rsx can be made fast, but for less money the srt-4 is faster stock, can fit people more comfortably, and has much more room to put stuff in.
If anything if you drive an rsx you settled for something less, if you all keep saying the rsx has a better interior than the srt-4, well the tsx has a better interior than the rsx so again, you have settled for less.

You can't compare the SRT-4 to and RSX besides in price range new. As for price range used we all know how well the RSX holds it's value.
Also the amount of abuse/mods the RSX can handle is impressive. If you look at the majority of threads in the problems/solutions section it's stuff that usually go back to user error(except for tranny issues at times).

i can die a happy man if someone just listens to me about this. the srt-4 is a very well built car, surprisingly as it may be the car can handle a load of abuse and power. just like you stated 95% of the issues with srt-4's are because of the owners fucking things up. i cannot describe how infuriating it is reading posts how people are bending the wastegate arms to get more boost because they cant afford an adjustable one. then 2 months later the car is pushing 24psi and finally tanks and the stupid faggot cant understand why and blames the car. Ive been a mechanic for a number of years, and ive worked on tons of car and modded just as many and i would put my life savings on the srt-4 being a decent car. people who track it everyweekend and daily drive it everyday who have over 80k or 100k miles on their cars have had zero issue with them because they modded the cars correctly not like the hundreds of stupid ricer faggots from srtforums who change their oil while the cars running :run:

I can't deny the SRT being fast. But what did you expect, comparing it to an RSX? You're comparing a 2.4L to a 2.0L and Boost to NA. Sure the SRT is cheaper, because it's domestic. But hell, if I was to boost my car right now, I could make RIDICULOUS amounts of power and STILL have a smaller displacement than an SRT.
Fact still remains, dodge can barely do, forced induction, what honda can do naturally aspirated.

I can't deny the SRT being fast. But what did you expect, comparing it to an RSX? You're comparing a 2.5L to a 2.0L and Boost to NA. Sure the SRT is cheaper, because it's domestic. But hell, if I was to boost my car right now, I could make RIDICULOUS amounts of power and STILL have a smaller displacement than an SRT.
Fact still remains, dodge can barely do, forced induction, what honda can do naturally aspirated.

Ive been a mechanic for a number of years, and ive worked on tons of car and modded just as many and i would put my life savings on the srt-4 being a decent car. people who track it everyweekend and daily drive it everyday who have over 80k or 100k miles on their cars have had zero issue with them because they modded the cars correctly not like the hundreds of stupid ricer faggots from srtforums who change their oil while the cars running :run:

as far as resale value goes, my 06 tsx (which costs more) is worth more in resale value than your rsx (which costs less), so the percentage of value it decreases is effected by the overall sticker price because even if ours both depreciated 5k mine would still be a better resale value. btw, an acura tsx doesn't lose 10k when you drive it off the lot.

I for one love every single import there is out there on the market. Evo's, STi's, WRX's, SRT4's, Speed3's/Speed6's,350Z's,RX-8's, S2000's,etcccc..
I just chose to go a different route. I picked up my Speed6 and got a heck of a deal and fell in love. I wanted to be different from others like not wanting to see fellow friends driving EVo's and STi's.
I know for one that i didn't buy this car to modify it and try to street race all the Import/domestic tuners. Because this isn't the car to do it:(............lol

i made the mistake the first time, though i might point out that in 02 when i was making the decision the wrx's, evo's, sti's, srt4's, etc were just coming out and not out yet....btw, my first rsx was a base:thumbsup:
i got sick of it after a year cause gsr's were pulling on me and the only competition were: preludes, non gsr integras, civics, and all the rest of the fucking ricer bullshit cars....so i went out and bought a type-s....in 03.........it was SO much faster and all, and for awhile i was kind of the fucking mountain (in my area), but then all these guys started showing up with mildly modded wrx's and smoking me:(...and then the evo's came:crying:, and the rest.......
i actually totalled the 03 type=s, my second rsx, and just went out and bought the 3rd one...it was EXACTLY the same, same black color/etc.....but all of a sudden even with a greddy turbo kit @ 7 psi (weaksause i know) i was getting my ass handed to me even from a roll, and from a dig forget about it.....so i sold it........but guess what? for whatever the fuck reason, i started to regret it, so i bought the 04 pwp and said fuck it ill make it fast and look good, i wanna be original and not mod a wrx/evo cause every fucking kid on the block and his mother jumped on that bandwagon.......so i spend a shit load of cash on carbon fiber hood/fenders/hella shit like lip kit wheels, full suspension: struts/springs/strutbars/sways/x-brace/all kinds of shit....i also dumped a shitload on cams/toda headgasket/dcrh/greddy cbe/comptech ice-box and misc other shit....then i realised how fucking stupid that was cause my car was still a low 14 high 13 car AT BEST....so decided not to repeat that mistake agian and bought a gt35r turbo and misc other things for it......after a year of driving the car and gathering everything required to install the damn thing, i lost all interest in fwd and the rsx in general and just fucking sold everythig.....the kid that drives it right now in reno can tell you how he got a fucking killer deal on it and how fucking clean it is/etc....i was just tired of it....period...its not worth making fast

You didn't get what I'm saying. It took dodge MUCH more to get the power out of that motor that they got. I'm sure that 2.4L motor would lose alot if you took the turbo off of it, even if you did up the compression and change the cams a little bit to offset the turbo coming off, you still wouldn't have that much power out of it.
And, if you're gonna go off of factory ratings for the RSX then go off the factory ratings for the SRT4 as well. 230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque

You're still putting in a different category. You're now comparing V8's to I4. I will agree that the RDX motor was a let down, but it still produced similar numbers to the SRT and it was supposedly also "underrated", as you SRT boys like to put it, from the factory. Rated, from acura, 240hp and 260tq. Plus it was still .1L under the SRT. As you all know, alot of power is lost to AWD and the fucking RDX was a god damn fortress on wheels.
I never said that dodge (or any american car maker) COULDN'T produce numbers from their engines, they just need huge displacement or FI to do it. Not saying that honda's cars put out big numbers, but their cars aren't built for straight line speed and they don't focus so much on "OMG 1 billion horsepower!" to sell their cars.

I didn't "settle" for my car. When I saw the 05 I wanted it right off the bat. I had an EP3 before so the Type-S is an improvement in many catergories.
I don't know many SRT-4 owners that fell in love with the car as soon as they saw it. I'm not downplaying what the SRT-4 is. It is a cheap fast car.
The TSX is luxury. The RSX is not. The K24 isn't as good of a tuner motor as the K20A2 or Z1. What it is good for is the bottom end though. That with one of our heads along with a few other mods gives you a high reving frank motor.
To say the RSX offers nothing is very ignorant and this sub forum has no place for ignorant fucks like yourself.

You didn't get what I'm saying. It took dodge MUCH more to get the power out of that motor that they got. I'm sure that 2.4L motor would lose alot if you took the turbo off of it, even if you did up the compression and change the cams a little bit to offset the turbo coming off, you still wouldn't have that much power out of it.
And, if you're gonna go off of factory ratings for the RSX then go off the factory ratings for the SRT4 as well. 230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque
You're still putting in a different category. You're now comparing V8's to I4. I will agree that the RDX motor was a let down, but it still produced similar numbers to the SRT and it was supposedly also "underrated", as you SRT boys like to put it, from the factory. Rated, from acura, 240hp and 260tq. Plus it was still .1L under the SRT. As you all know, alot of power is lost to AWD and the fucking RDX was a god damn fortress on wheels.
I never said that dodge (or any american car maker) COULDN'T produce numbers from their engines, they just need huge displacement or FI to do it. Not saying that honda's cars put out big numbers, but their cars aren't built for straight line speed and they don't focus so much on "OMG 1 billion horsepower!" to sell their cars.
but those factory numbers for dodge ARE the whp..or pretty much so. i.e. i dynoed myself at 226whp/259tq. acura says 201hp, but dynos like 160ish whp?? yeah..ok.

I know it, but I trust factory rating comparisons against individuals dynoing at random places. Stock for stock, I will add. After mods, I don't really care what people claim or show. The proof is in the run, plain and simple.

I doubt that's the way it is with all of their cars. I get what you're saying, ya, but who's to say what standards every company (and every dyno) is actually using? I dont' know, just too many damn variables so I stick with what the manufacturer's cram down my throat. Until it's modded.
But I also fully recognize that the "factory 30hp" more is not attributing to the SRT's like, what is it, a full second faster in the quarter mile? It's the fucking massive torque jump from the RSX to the SRT.

I absolutely agree. I've taken out tons of cars that are rated higher HP or have more WHP than me. Stunned the piss out of me, honestly.
I need to get some time slips under my belt so I can back this claim up, but if only 200-210tq is what it takes to get an RSX into the 12's (obviously accompanied by the horsepower gain) then there's gotta be SOMETHING right with the car.

LoL I bet they're not cheap for yer car, eh? I know for a nice custom setup on V8 domestics, Hytech (the company that made my header) charges like 7 grand for the headers. :noes:

YES. the viper is a crappy car with a lot of power. pretty much like the SRT-4. i don't really care for either one of them. especially when you consider that it's like 80-90k. you can buy a cruddy SRT-4 and have it pumping out viper like power for 5k. so for what, about 25k you have a 4 door car that will piss on an 80k viper?

eg hatch for 3k.......try $1500 bones. and those hatches can be made stupid fast with less than 10 grand, all motor/boosted whatever you want.

yes, the EVO is a prettier car than the viper, and with the same power, it's faster. the M3 is also prettier than a viper, as is the STi, the 335i, the 135i, the C6 Z06, the 03-04 terminator cobra, the new GT 500, and just about every other car on the planet....
