View Full Version : RSX Type S to a 07 Subaru Forester Sports XT 5sp??

Any thoughts on this???

Forester is built on a wrx chasis and comes with the same engine as an STI with a smaller turbo and such. So everything STi is an easy swap.

I've been looking at getting an STi but I need more space.

Once you go AWD, you never look back. The Forester is a fun to mod and easy to extract generous amounts of power. I'd take that station wagon box on wheels over a RSX any day.

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with my RSX. I really need more of a family car nowadays, but it still has to be fun to drive.

I like forester XT's because people who check them out think they're slow, until they drive it. so in a way i think they are good sleepers. I have yet so see a modded one show up to our dealership.

The new STI is too expensive and I'm pretty sure they're going to be marked up at all the dealers for a while.

I was looking at used STI's for like 24k.

The Forester Sports XT MSRP is 27k brand new. Hopefully I can get that as close to 20k as possible.

As far as space, I need it in the backseat more than trunk space. I have a 5 month old son and I can barely get his car seat into my backseat of my RSX. Plus I'm 6'4 so my seat is usually all the way back and the backseat is just to small for him and my wife (she has to sit back with him so his head doesnt flap around when he falls asleep).

The Legacy looks so much better.... I'd probably get the Legacy before I got a WRX tbh, but the Legacy is really expensive. If you need the room then the RSX just isn't viable anymore. Go test drive a Forester, and an STi, and compare them- even if you're not planning on getting the STi it'll give you an idea for their similarities and differences.

I agree with you, i think the Legacy GT is the best looking subaru. but they get expensive. the top-of-the-line SpecB model costs over 35K but its still less than an STi with BBS wheels. I was acually going to get one but i don't have good enough credit.

I'm deffinately going to test drive both! But the wife likes the Forester and she thinks the STI is ugly lol. So it's probally going to be a safer pic to get the Forester.

I can but if you don't mind driving/flying from Sacramento, im in socal. My best advise for you if you want you can request a quote through edmunds, it will send your info to 4 different dealers and they will all have it and will sent you a low price, that's when you can mess with their heads,

Yeah, I know your in socal. I'll try the quote through edmunds. Right now i'm just waiting to sell my car, once it's gone I'm going to go buy a Forester.

He said he just installed a top mount IC (turbo XS) into it, GReddy EVO2 Exhaust, Turbo XS intake, and he has a 16G turbo right now but hes gonna upgrade to a 20G or a FP Green turbo soon. Other than that just a little suspension work. He has a UTEC piggy back computer for sale because it isnt compatible on the forester if you know anyone who might want it. Its for an '04 WRX.

Yeah, 16 G's work great on Evo's but not Subies. I've actually seen some success with 16's when they make a hybrid with different compressors. That seems way to much of a pain.

hmm...I have an 04' wrx drivetrain. I have cobb but I can't even get the maps to load. I'll think about it. My buddies forrester xt put down around 320 whp with a turboback, tune, and I think it too is a turbo xs topmount. He's running an sti turbo.

thats cool, let me know if your wanting it, he is on the NASIOC website as Lilsix (I think) if you need to ask him anything about it. I dont really know shit about Subaru's but I think with the 20G he should be real close if not slightly over 400 whp, and he says the FP Green is slightly larger than the 20G so who knows. I dont remember exactly how much WHP he was putting down on his WRX but it was over 300.

the FXT is basically a taller, larger impreza wagon. easy to mod, fun to drive, and nice looking in the Sports trim.

i'd get one in a heartbeat...good luck finding a manual sports xt tho - they are somewhat rare.

Hell my friend has a 1g swap in his 2g. He is on his second engine and twice has been rebuilt. He does have a big turbo on it but doesn't even push the boost at all. He runs 21 lbs on his 50 trim and that's barely efficient for that turbo. He's also going on his 3rd engine on his beater 1g which has no mods except an exhaust. He just scored an engine and gearbox with a 16g for 1700 so we'll be swapping that in the cold.

Everyone knows the Evo is more mod friendly. But I prefer the exhaust note the boxer engine produces compared to the Evo. On YouTube, I listened to a lot of sound clips. While the Evo deffinately sounds good, it is too similar to what I currently have. While the Sti's seem to have a more deep, bubbly grumble which I love.

I'd have no reason to.. All high powered cars are unreliable (you'll get there one day little guy) Its just a matter of how much so.

A 4G63 can handle more power than a boxer so in essence one can be deemed mroe reliable than the other depending on power levels. Same goes for the transmissions... Ours aren't that great but next to a Subie tranny it makes ours look like a damn DogBox. lol. I love subies but if I wanted over 350-400whp I'd look elsewhere.

And for the record. I still want one. Sure its low on the "cars I'd buy soon" list but I definitely respect it enough to be on there. And its above the Evo on the list too.. :snap:

He's been in the game for a long time, probably a lot longer then you have. He does buy used 1g engines for his beater 1g obviously he's trying to spend as little as possible. But he always knows where it comes from and they generally come out of never modded cars. They just keep going on him. As far as his 2g he doesn't touch the internals. He has one of the most reputable dsm shops build his engines. I just think he has bad luck with his 2g. But the 1g he never beats on and shit keeps going on him. We'll see how this next one works out. Lastly I don't touch his car. lol I only assisted him on his turbo swap which was strait forward. Next week we'll be installing his gt35r.

I'm not saying they don't make more power, I'm not that dumb. Just in my experiences with the dsm boys around here there always seems to be an engine problem. Some are the younger kids that think they can put on a mbc and crank it up so we just point and laugh because we told them not to. But most are just random shit on dsms that are set up right.

Wrx's gearbox's true, sti 6 speeds, older Ra 5 speeds and 6 speeds I really don't see that. I think Subaru has the slight advantage there. But yeah, wrx 5speeds is essentially the same gear box that was made for the gls back in the day. Maybe one day they'll fix the wrx gearbox problem.

very nice. what suspension is he running - wagon struts and springs? swifts?

details!!

Its for an '04 WRX.

he's only running Progress Springs so far. He's only had it for maybe 2 months. I have yet to see it in person and I cant wait!
