i can't stand thread's like this....why post a thread about it when you can just go and find out yourself? even if someone said they raced one, do you think they raced one in the exact same way you did? same temps out, same tires, same mods (for both cars)?

Yes, its the same exact engine as the G35 Sedan/Coupe and 350Z.
Nissan rated them ranging from 240 HP in the Altima to 287 in the 350Z. Actually they all dyno pretty close though.
My buddy just bought a 2003 G35 Sedan and dynos show that all the VQ cars are putting out about the same power..about 275-290 crank HP. This is the 03-06 VQ cars.
The VQ is a really great engine. Stock to stock an RSX shouldnt mess with any 2002 and up VQ car..especially at highway speeds.
The 07+ VQHR's dyno higher...about 300-310 crank. :)

not necessarily, they barely get any power from mods.

The maxima should win for sure unless he cant drive. The 6spd can run low 14's without much trouble. The Maxima SL 4AT runs high 14's and the SE 5AT has hit mid 14's.

LOL no. Putting an intake on the 350 will do nothing. Even headers do nothing (unless you buy the crawford jethot coated headers but few ppl do because of the price). Exhaust does nothing for the Z, hell nothing does except for the plenum spacer and/or mrev2 depending on year of the car.

Stock to stock the Maxima will not only rape you in the ass as mentioned above, but it will also first take the time to bend you over your own hood and smack you around a little bit first.
Back on a more serious note though, if it's his first manual and he doesn't have much time to learn in an aggressive driving environment you shouldn't have a problem taking it whatsoever.
That being said if hes a closet stick shift master you're cooked :iptf:

Yes, its the same exact engine as the G35 Sedan/Coupe and 350Z.
While the block and heads are similar, the engines use different cams. There were two sets of cams used in the 1st gen VQ35DE engines. The cams in the RWD G35/350Z VQ35DE engines, which were longitudinally mounted, were different than the cams in the FWD transversely mounted VQ35DE engines used in the Alty/Max vehicles. The "revup" VQ35DE engine used yet another set of cams, and obviously the VQ35HR is a new beast altogether.
Not true. The 6-spd 350Z/G35 RWD VQ35DE engines dyno'd 235-240rwhp stock for the most part. The 5-spd/6-spd Alty/Max FWD VQ35DE engines dyno'd 200-215whp stock. Keep in mind FWD drivetrain is more efficient from a dyno perspective yet the numbers are noticeably lower in the FWD dynos. Some of that is attributable to the ECU and, in particular, the exhaust restrictions due to the transverse layout, but a good part of the difference is also the cams.
The VQ is a really great engine. Stock to stock an RSX shouldnt mess with any 2002 and up VQ car..especially at highway speeds.
The 07+ VQHR's dyno higher...about 300-310 crank. :)
The VQ35DE is a decent engine, though the VQ35HR is a much stouter ladder block design with much stronger stock internals. Guys on my350z.com with almost all bolt on mods on VQ35DE's dyno'ing in the 265-270rwhp range were shocked to see stock VQ35HR 350's dyno'ing close to 270rwhp bone stock and running the same ET's/MPH as the full bolt-on VQ35DE equipped 350's.
At this point I would not purchase a VQ35DE 350, I'd have to get a VQ35HR equipped 350, which means model year 2007 and up (read expensive).
While a stock for stock race should favor the VQ35DE equipped cars equally driven, the RSX-S platform/engine is a great tuner car and you can really get a LOT of performance out the little 2.0L Honda engine.
I'd also submit that while the mods available for the VQ35DE don't give the same returns as similar mods for the K20A engines in the RSX-S, you do still see some gain. I/H/E does give gains, usually 10-15rwhp on the 350's/G35 platforms. Other mods help as well, like ECU, plenum, spacers, test pipes, cams, etc. Guys with VQ35DE 350's have seen around 270rwhp with all bolt on mods, versus 235-240rwhp stock.
Hope this helps to clarify...

So a G35 sedan/coupe is faster than a Altima/Maxima.
Also the auto G35's are pretty close to the 6MT's. Efficient transmission
The RSX is a good deal slower stock to stock than a G35 though. You are overestmating the extra skill required to match driver to driver on a RSX with the torque and 6 gears. Even driven perfectly, even a auto G35 Sedan will handily beat a RSX S. Too much torque and HP advantage.
The turbo VQ's are nasty too...

You are a fool. They discontinued the 6spd for 07! They only use CVT now but the 6th gen maxima came with a 6spd!

Its not only bench racing. Granted G35 Sedan/Coupe 0-60 is 5.5-5.9 sec and a RSX is 7 sec. They are just a faster car.

Not every driver can hit those times, thats why saying that is stupid like people always say a base rsx can beat a modded e46 m3, its all about the driver. if the m3 driver has no legs or hands then it might have trouble winning etc

the 02 rsx did 0-60 in 6.2 and the 05 does like 6.8 yet the 05 is faster;)

02-04 rsx hits 60 in 2nd, 05-06 hits 60 in third...there is one extra shift in there. just because you hit 60mph sooner doesn't mean you are winning the race when you hit 60
