okay guYSss!!!

i want to paint my front grille (the one with the acura badge on it) to match the JDM style front grille.. but, im not willing to pay $100 for a painting place to color match it and spray it when its so little and i can do it my self..

my question is, since the rsx is new and "satin silver" is a popular color, and they do have color matched spray paint..

is it possible for me to paint it and have it OEM QUALITY? as in: shiney, smooooooth, reflective, etc etc.. what if i just bought silver paint in the rsx's color code, then after that covered it with a couple layers of clear coat? or gloss coats? (do they sell gloss coats?)..

will that work ?

Try and see, I wouldn't do it though. If you want it to come out good you have to sand the area then put primer on it then put a bunch of coats of silver paint then clearcoat it then pray to the paint gods that it matches. Too much work for me.

Dupicolor doesn't make a spray version of the Satin Silver Metallic.

You should try the ones from www.paintscratch.com instead. They guarantee an exact match.

Hmm. My instinct was to reply by saying that it would be really easy to DIY, but on second thought, maybe not. Especially with a light color like SSM. I'd rather just price around for a bodyshop to do it. Maybe you can find some other things you'd like painted, too... get it all done at once.

I have done this on previous cars, I have to say DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!

There is nothing as good as OEM paint. Professional paint from body shops is as close as it gets, and you'll have a tough time getting anything that good without a spray gun. Besides, it is very difficult to get paint to stick well to unfinished plastic.

This is what will happen. You'll paint it and it'll look great for about 6 months, then it will start to get chipped up and you'll want to repaint it. But now you'll have to resand the whole thing to remove the chips, and repaint. With each layer of paint your grill will start looking worse. The mesh will start looking clumpy, etc.

If you absolutely want to do this, pay the $100 and get it done right. Since they are going to mix up a batch of paint, you might as well get some other things painted as well. Maybe your intake cover, spark plug cover, strut bar, sway bars, etc, etc...

Yeah, or an aftermarket bumper/grill combo.
