my car has 18000 dollars worth of damage but apparently blue book value is 22000 according to the body shop and insurance company...but theyre bringing in an adjuster to decide whether they want to fix it yet... just to have an idea of how much damage it normally takes..people who were in accidents ...how much damage did you have for it to be totalled or to even be fixed..

DAMAGE HAS TO BE CLOSE TO OR OVER BOOK VALUE to be totaled.

thats what i figured but im at 18000 dollars in damamge the book value is 22000 which is surpsing cuz i mean i had over 18000 miles on it and its a 02 so i figured book value is chepaer than that, so theyre bringin an adjuster to decided whether to fix it or not, even if its not over book value

Or pay off the insurance company :oP Guy on my screen broke his front lip and radiator mount on his 2001 Integra SE when it had 15000kms on it. Slipped the insurance guy a $100 and he had a total writeoff. Pretty damn crooked if you ask me, but it works.

Wrong. Damage has to exceed a percentage of the book value, usually 75 or 80%. Some insurance companies declare it a total loss if the cost of repairs, plus the salvage value of the vehicle in its current state, exceeds the book value. If you have $18,000 worth of damage and your insurance company doesn't want to total your car, you are being ripped off.

In this kind of situation you always want to push for gettin a new car rather than tryin to salvage that much damage because there is probably a bit of frame damage and, although it is possible, it's very difficult to get a car back to it's former self (yes... cars are people too) cuz there is also a lot of damage that you might not know about.
My dad got hit by a crazy lady while she was drivin crazy in bad conditions and he had quite a bit of damage... after goin back and forth from the repair places, that the insurance company recommended, with new problems. I finally convinced him to talk to my friend who rebuilt a totalled GTI, who told him to just get a new one. BTW my dad's truck is a F350 p-stroke diesel... extra cab with extra large bed (biggest one you can buy). Hope this helps.

the only reason i dont want it to be totalled, is cause im not gonna be able to get a new rsx type s....im gonna have to get a used car, if they fix the car, then i get to keep it, like brand new, i guess yea htere are gonna be some other problems, but my other options are like a 99 a4 avant wagon 1.8T (which i wouldnt mind) or a volvo 850T5R which i wouldnt mind either, but i dunno, id rather have my type S

Typically most insurance companies will allow a total loss from 70% of the cars value. 18,000 seems like a lot and actually enough damage, I would not even repair it and actually request because there will be problems sometimes after any type of accident that affects frame and core support. That's why kits, hoods, and certain things fit into cars weird. Try to get the total loss and get yourself a new Rsx to play with. Good luck.

Why won't you be able to get a new Type-S? Your insurance company is supposed to give you the average used price of your car in your area, so you should be getting a pretty good sum of cash.

My rsx was rebuilt, we bought it totalled and fixed it. No one can even tell it has been in a major accident. There are no problems, you would only run into problems if someone was not qualified to do the job, or did a half assed job on it.

I guess it does seem like a better idea to get rid of it. Even if there is no problems. things are never put back to new, It's like ripping a hole on the knee of your pants as a kid, you can patch it up, but it's still there. It will pose as a safety issue cause the frame and stuff have been compromised if the shop is not all that great. If the shop is trustworthy enough than go on and do it. Don't go for the shop the insurance company gives you because these are shops that are in agreement with the insurance company and they can sometimes cut corners cause they get paid the same anyways. Find a real professional and reputable shop. Think about it though. Oh, btw, why are there only two choices of vehicles, are those the ones that are at your house?
