An attractive feature of the interior of the new RSX is the fabric-like textured surface which covers some parts of the dash. My immediate reaction when I first explored the interior of the car was - Wow - this looks awesome! Once it came time to clean it however, my thoughts changed more to - Holy sh_t ! How the hell are you supposed to get the dust off?!

After a bit of careful consideration, I found a method which works great...

Vacuum the dash with a SOFT bristle brush (don't use the ShopVac type - they have hard plastic bristles which can scratch the surface. Try and obtain one with soft, natural hairs if possible).

Happy motoring!

My concern with using a plain feather duster, is that you don't actually remove the dust - just move it around the car's interior.

(I just picked up a "mini" California Duster, & will try that out on the interior as well)

I picked up a mini CA Duster and found it not to work that well on the dash. It left little pieces of red lint all over.

Would you use protectant on the dash? What is the best protectant? 303, Armorall...? I heard of this stuff made by lexol, does any one know the name?

BlackTS

I have not used any protectant on the dash (the car's only two weeks old - haven't needed to). But I've heard that Armorall actually blocks the pores in the plastic and prevents it from breathing properly - eventually PROMOTING brittleness and cracking!

(I'm not crazy about the shiny look many of these protectants leave anyway).

I found that using a swiffer cloth work great! Don't rub it on the dash, pat is. It picks up the lint instantly!

just use strips of packing tape to pick up all the dust.

I used an old toothbrush to get all of the dust and assorted other lint out of the tacky textured area.

Try a Wonder Sponge...they're sold at places like Bed, Bath and Beyond...they are a foam rubber "brick" that are used dry...marketed for cleaning delicate items like fuzzy wallpaper and cloth lampshades, but work nicely on the RSX dashboard.

I just used a old damp sock.. it seemed to have worked pretty good (lifted out all my cigarette ash.. hehe)...

Just don't use one that is covered in lint... :)

Use a lint brush, the kind that is like a big roll of tape with a handle.

Hello, all!

I've done a search on cleaning the textured part of the dash, but didn't come up with a good answer yet.

I used ArmorAll Ultimate on the non-textured part, and now the textured part looks a bit dull compared to the rest.

I'm just wondering if it's ok to use ArmorAll on the textured part of the dash.

I know some people hate ArmorAll and say it promotes cracking, but I've used it on all of my cars and it works great.

RJC RSX

it really is best not to use ArmorAll at all, even if it doesn't promote cracking, it just gives an uneven grease smear IMO and looks like crap. There are much better products on the market.

personally, i just use the CA dash duster and occasionally some warm water and a towel. Some other care care forum members will be able to point you in the right direction chemically.

Just use swiffler towels. But, lightly go over the textured dash with it or else it will leave behind strands of swiffler. But if u lightly go over it, the static will get the dirt out.

I vacuum the whole thing with a brush attachment on my shop vac. This works especially well on the textured part.

I hate the wet, greasy look of regulat ArmorAll, so I switched to ArmorAll cleaner instead. It's low gloss, so the dash just looks really clean. Not to shiny, but not dry and dull... just right.

In the light brown bottle, this is the best that I've tried, I use 303 on my tires, but i'm not likin' it too much.

If you are not looking for a "dressing" (vinylex, meguiars, etc) and just looking to dust the perforated part, take a lint brush- the ones that look like a big roll of masking tape- and roll it over the surface, it dusts and leaves no lint or other residue behind- all in one step.

Hi there, I am new here and have just took possession of a new 2004 RSX. :spin:

I noticed that the top of the dashboard right in front of the driver seems to be covered with a perforated material of some sort on my RSX premium. However, I am not sure if this is leather (does not look like it) or plastic. My questin is how to clean it and with what? I do not want to "clog" the little perforations with something that will not wipe up easily and leave a residue...

Any hints? Can I use normal Armorall or something :questionm

Thanks in advance

Armorall is not advised. A shiny dash is a driving hazzard. Also, armorall actually deteriorates the material in the dash.
Armorall is something to use on your old camaro. You've stepped up to a nice car, so use some Lexol.

use lexol or some other quality cleaner. If you see lint in the little tiny indentations, get a piece of painters tape, wrap it around your pointer and middle finger and try to get the lint off by pressing the tape over the dash.

I highly recommend using 303 Protectant on your vehicle. This is one of the most versatile products I've ever used and I apply it on almost everything on/in my vehicles. I use it on my leather, dashboard, interior panels, exterior trim, tires, and even on my paint. It's great stuff... just keep it off the glass however because it tends to smear.

Ok. I called my acrua dealer to find out what to use on the material about the guages. They said to use any standard glass cleaner, just make sure it doesnt have silicone in it, and to use mf towels, and not regular towels.

i use some meguiars stuff (don' feel like goin to the basement to see what it is tho) - comes in a black spray bottle - i like it - doenst smell really chemical-ey, and doesnt make parts shiny/greasy. also doesnt get streaky on plastic like the stereo faceplate. i use black magic leather conditioner crap for the seats - black spray bottle again. it looks like mansauce and smells like, well, like leather conditioner. but it works really good. and doesnt leave the seats greasy if you wipe it in good.

rockatanski

black magic tire spray for exterior trim/plastic shit. makes really shiny/lasts about a week if it doesnt rain or isnt really super sunny. easiest to put a finger in a rag, spray rag over finger (just a little - dont hose it down), use finger to wipe - keeps it off the body panels/glass, cuz it streaks like a bitch there

ok, just looked at the bottle of interior spray - its meguiars "quick interior detailer". not nxt - i havent used the nxt interior stuff, but the exterior spray detailer works great, just spray and wipe every couple days, takes about 5 min.

I use a Woolite/Water Mixture cut 1:6 to clean plastic and vinyl. After that I protect with Armor All Original, or I recently got 303 Aerospace Protectant so i'll be playing with that too.
One tip is to get some microfiber applicators and spray the protectant on it then wipe it on your dash. It gives nice even coats, without overspray all over your glass.

Has anyone used both Vinylex AND 303 protectant? I've seen Vinylex in numerous stores but the closest store that sells 303 is 20+ miles away.

I was wondering if 303 was really worth the extra $3-4 and going out of my way, or should I just pick up some Vinlyex at my local Ace Hardware?

Ever since I bought my car in December, I have kept a little swiffer thingy in the pocket behind the passenger seat. Works like a charm on touching up the interior, ie perforated part on dashboard, cupholders, seats, trays. I like my interior to be absolutely dust-free.

I have the black interior btw.
