There's really no comparison. I would never go back to an RSX after having my S2000. It's a very enjoyable car to drive and fellow S2K owners are very nice and respectful toward each other (from what I have seen so far) unlike every other RSX driver around town who thinks that they have the world's fastest RSX and no other can beat them.

If you're wanting a brand new one just wait for the CR to come out in '08. It's gonna be more performance oriented and come with a removable hard top instead of the soft top. Only real down fall to the car is that it's not gonna have any audio at all from what I've read.

bighead
06-29-2007, 02:19 PM
the CR will have audio... if it has cruise control, it should have audio. I personally don't think it's worth the added $$$.

the removable hardtop is just the oem hardtop, it doesn't have a softtop but a reenforcing brace in it's place covered with a tonneau cover.

that and it's ugly. I'd just get a reg s2k and mod it to the level of the CR for less $$

White_02
06-29-2007, 02:22 PM
CR is garbage. Can't stand looking at that thing.

Lip as big as the trash can it came out of, wing bigger than a 747's, and they kinda ripped on Veilside with that tonneau cover when you take the top off.

I'd rather get a used one and just use the saved money on modifications.

Plus, drive-by-wire sucks a fat one and the 00-05's have K-Pro (still weird saying that) available for it :D

kenny_son
06-29-2007, 02:40 PM

The long term customer satisfaction and reliability with the S2000 is amount one of the best of all cars according to motortrend mag. It's on s2ki.com somewhere. There was also a Top Gear vid with them saying how reliable s2k is and no vtec ever failed:thumbsup:

KiNgOfQuEeNz

thats awesome, how is the reliablity with boost? does it start having problems then?

KiNgOfQuEeNz
07-03-2007, 12:25 AM
also, do people prefer the 2.0 liter that redlines higher or is it more worth it to save up for a 2004 with a 2.2 liter?

kenny_son
07-03-2007, 03:33 PM
its totally up to you. if you are serious about getting one. I HIGHLY recommend that you test drive both.

AP1 is more racey with a harder ride and of course the awesome 9k red line.
AP2 is more toned down and is probably better for a daily driver although im using my AP1 as a daily and have no complaints. the torque in the AP2 is pretty sweet though but i would have to get used to the 8k red line.

although the AP2 is a softer ride (plus, honda softened up the rear to reduce snap oversteer which was an issue in the ap1) it handles just as well if not better than the ap1. im sure the bigger tires help too.

reliability with boost shouldnt be much of an issue considering the S2000's have forged internals stock. if your looking for crazy high boost then obviously re-working the engine would be a good idea.
There is a boosted section on s2ki.com if you need more info i would definitely check that out.

there are ALOT of knowledgable guys on there that can give you details/advice coming from experience.

anyways, good luck and i hope you get into an s2k soon.

p.s. no offense to the rsx guys...but the s2k is just sooo much more fun going through twisties and plus you can take the top off!!!! :D
although the rsx is fun as well.

I'm in a dilemma!!!!

I can get a used 03 S2K AP1 with 42K miles for $16K even (this is one hell of a deal). It is stock with clean title. It was rear ended recently but damages were minor and the rear bumper was replaced and exhaust replaced with AP2 oval exhaust. New tires. Only thing I don't like is that it's New Formula Red. I have my heart set on a Grand Prix White.

I think pictures were taken a year ago when he got it used certified at honda dealer. I saw it in person, no major dings or scratches. Seats were pretty worn for an 03 and minor scratches on dash plastic.

^^ nice

how you think it compares to the s2k??

you mean the WRX?

...like apples and oranges. they are complete opposites of each other in nearly every way. in all honesty though i'd have to say that day in/day out the WRX is more fun to drive overall.

power: WRX
tranny: S2k
styling: S2k
mod-friendliness: WRX
sound: WRX (but subjective)
year-round usefulness: WRX
gas mileage: S2k

i still miss the S2k sometimes, but when there's 8 inches of snow on the ground, it's hard to beat the AWD donuts in the WRX.

my wife has a type S, so i still get to have my VTEC fun every now and then.

I'd trade the pre-'02 models for an AP2 just for the little added features that the '02+ recieved. I'm just not a fan of the rear plastic window, but that may just be me?....Only thing you might miss is the 9k redline, but you'll be getting a couple more hp and tq in return, so it's really whatever you want to do. You'd also be getting a car with less mileage than you already have I assume.

from '02 rsx-s w/i/rh/e/kpro to a bone stock '07 - i'm looking the the inlinepro package for the s, anyone got exprience with inline?

fyi - loved the rsx and the only reason i sold it was because i blew the engine (a little engine knock spun rod bearings) otherwise i would still have it.

but now that i'm in the s2, i don't miss the rsx at all (i realy don't miss the wheel hop, vibration & noise form the motor mounts, 2nd gear grind, not having the double wishbones in the front and crazy bump steer on uneven pavement)...

Inline pro is like the full-race for s2k's its the big horsepower popular kit... very good company and customer service. I must say though a 07 is much more difficult to work with because of the drive by wire for the engine management you would have to read into what could be done for the 07s

i was so worried going from a brand new warrantied car to a 7 year old one out of warranty.. but i made the right choice. the S2000 is in great condition (only had 32K on the clock when i bought it) and so far has been a really fun car to own. :)

Not in the market as of right now for an s2k, but i've been reading up on it. Then i started comparing it with the g35, and sti. And now i'm back to wanting either an 03 or an 04 s. i'm so confused..... i wish i was rich.

[edit]

QUESTIONS:

1) nvm, i think i want either an 04 or an 05, gpw w/ black int of course, arent the 06's drive by wire? or is that all the ap2's?

2) For you guys who went from a type-s to an s2k, did your insurance rates go up or down?

like Tbone said, the '06+ are DBW, but '04/'05 AP2s are not. they do have the clutch delay valve though (can't remember if the AP1s have it)

my insurance went down on my S2k from my RSX-S - don't ask me why.

as far as '03 or '04, you really have to decide which engine you like IMO, and decide if the cosmetic differences between the two matter to you. drive the 2.0 and the 2.2 back to back if possible and you'll get a good feeling for which one you prefer. having owned an AP2, if i were to get a used S2k now i would definitely get an AP1 -- i'd rather have the 9K redline than the 11 lb/ft of TQ that the Ap2 has.

both are great cars - just a little different.

Inline pro is like the full-race for s2k's its the big horsepower popular kit... very good company and customer service. I must say though a 07 is much more difficult to work with because of the drive by wire for the engine management you would have to read into what could be done for the 07s

found that kraftwerks (a jackson racing/skunk2 company) are doing a 350whp s/c kit for DBW models '06-'08 with a hondata reflash..

The engine saw 11k rpms :o Broke a valve and messed up the guide. There was a little valve to piston contact, and a piece of the valve ended up in the #2 cylinder somehow and scratched the wall. http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=541128

I *might* consider selling parts of the old motor, but I am also considering building a motor. It needs valves, guides, etc, re-sleeve the block, new piston, etc. I was going to do a stroker motor, keep it rev-limited to 9k but build it to handle 10.5-11k without breaking. I really want a bike though, so I might give up on that idea.

Alright guys, quick question.

Yesterday I started thinking about maybe getting a S2K.

I'm just a little worried about if I'll fit in it

I'm 6'4" - any other tall S2K drivers? How do you fit? For being such a small car, I have plenty of space in the RSX. How does the S2K compare?

rsxtaci
02-01-2008, 09:25 AM
my bf is 6' and he fits just fine.

although on the way home after buying it (3 hour drive) he had all kinds of crap on his lap and in the foot well.. stuff we had to get home that was in the RSX.

i asked him "do you fit in here ok? you look sorta cramped"

his reply: "i fit better on the drivers side."

hint much? LOL. so i let him drive most of the time. he has plenty of room on that side. ;)

(oh and the ap1 is slightly smaller on the inside, just fyi. they kinda carved out the inside a bit for the ap2)

*El Ocho Uno*
02-01-2008, 09:30 AM

I mean, I'll definately go test drive them before, but just wanted to have a general idea.

Eww, not a 350

I'm 6/6' 1" and I fit just fine. My dad who's 6' 2" fits just fine, although his oldass sometimes has a little difficulty getting those old bones down and then into (lowered ftw :D), but once inside, no biggie.

But if you plan on staying in Miami, seat locks (s2ki member makes/sells them), hardtop, and a good alarm would be good investments to save your seats.

Lets not get this off hands, just good fun debating!

I will start it: I know the S2k is a VERY FUN car to toss around on the street and I do respect high rpm rev and I think its a great performance car honda offers!

and I can assure you that whenever you test drive the z, you would love it!
I did, thats why I bought one, hehe!

I did test drive the S2k, too. IT WAS FUN !!!
However, I like the toughness look of the z!

One thing I like about the Z is that is a real Z

I've had a few. I had a '73 240z and a '84 300ZX Turbo

a couple of my buddies have had other 260z, 280z & 280zx

And the new ones are true Z's

not like, lets say, an Impala is a FWD, 6 Cyl. piece of shit now

It would be great to own a Z33, buddy!

06+ has VSA.

06+ suck for tuning as well thanks to drive-by-wire

*El Ocho Uno*

but the '05 doesn't have any form of trac. cont. ?

I was looking at '06's

White_02

Indeed, anything from 00-05 is VSA-less :)

06+ = VSA, drive-by-wire, daytime running lights, different interior touches, etc. Just minor things.

White_02

http://www.s2ki.com/sponsors

Lists all the sponsors on S2Ki that you can get anything S-related you would need :)

For performance stuff, skip the whole i/h/e thing and go f/i if you want noticable gains.
The i/h/e route adds about 20hp for around $1k, if not more, vs. boost adding 150+hp for $5-6k (the cheap/easy way, more can be had for more money obviously)

I do like the lines of the S2K better than the Z, the Z has more like curves instead of lines.

But the extra torque of the Z is really appealing. The Z also has an in dash 6 disc changer, but like my wife said "You're gonna let a radio be the deciding factor?"

I think it will mainly come down to which I feel more comfortable in. Which one I fit better in, you know.

i know i fell in love with my s2k after test driving it.

yeah, I've looked at that thread too.

I think it really is going to come down to which one I fit in better.

I've heard from the Honda guys that they fit with no problem. One tells me of his friend who is 6'2" 190 lbs fitting in a S2K with no problems at all. (I'm 2" taller & 20-25 lbs heavier though)

I hear from the 350Z guys that if you're 5'9" & 160 lbs that you dont fit

Apart from the interior size, the biggest complaint I saw from te Z people was the lack of low end torque & having to rev the engine to get power, but I drive an RSX so I'm use to that & know how to keep plenty of power on tap.

A couple other pros & cons are that the Z doesn't have a sunroof, The S doesn't have a roof.

Storage capicity, But I have a company truck in case I need to haul something other than ass.

i didnt get a Z because there were way too many on roads. i preferred the S looks + drop top in cali is great. i never got to test drive a stick Z so i wouldnt know how it drives and feels. ive tested a stick g35 and if they are anything similar i prefer the way S feels more sharp. the clutch feels kind of weird. the shifter feels nice though.

Im 5'11 and 190 but the S2k is soo damn tight but the steering feel and responsiveness of the S2k is awesome. I am reconsidering just buying a used s2k cuz i live in Socal now and having a convertible makes more sense than when I lived in the NE but i dunno the S2k hasn't sold me yet.

i thought the 08 Zs were puttin out some pretty good times
but anyways u are correct Zs low 13s with the s2000 usually mid 13s or high 13s

well i went it and test drove it today and i love it... i did take it up to redline in 2nd and i shifted into third and i think i felt that "slave cylinder delay valve" thing kick in cause it didnt put the power down it just kind of revved up and i let off the gas as soon as that happened.
