Some great shots here. There are 2 Axe photos so if you decide to vote for one make sure you pick the right one. They had very similar titles so I put some additional description in parentheses.

I got it now

Had to give it a second thought before I did it.

I went with #5 just because it grabs my attention and if anyone of these were in a magazine as an advertisement that one would catch my eye. Number 4 was a close second.

I voted for #1 because the idea is AWESOME!! Although the photo isn't quite as clear as the others, i just can't seem to get past the great idea that is a great representation of the TV ads.

Damn....all pretty good. Both axe ones are what'd you see in a ad/commercial most def. Went with #5 though :P. Was tempted to go with #7, but little too much noise for me.

I voted for bubble bath. I think it showed alot of creativity as well as a good amount of effort to get the bubbles in there. Not only that, but I know first hand how difficult it is to light anything clear because it reflects whats being lit no matter where the light source is. Also I find it funny that both of the axe ones have the same exact title and the same exact spelling.

I chose the Guitar Hero one because I really liked the action that it captured. I think it might have been better if the box had better placement so it was more prominent it would make it even better.

How'd you pull it off without a bunch of PP?

I think number 1 would've been better if it showed a little more of the product like number 5.

To get the black BKG in my shot, I setup my Foam-Core board (the ones used for science projects) and got a black sheet and draped it over it. Done deal.

....but which one is mine??? :ugh:

haha well the black background was achieved using a roll of black seamless paper. I didnt have any pics of the stup so I'll try to explain it as best as I can. The seamless paper was probably 4 or 5 feet behind the small table. I found a cool, beveled piece of glass that I placed on top of the seamless that was laying across the table. I had 2 medium softboxes, slightly behind the product pointing slightly toward the camera. The reason they were pointing slightly toward the camera is because the light from the softboxes is really soft and i wanted to minimize the amount of spill that would hit the black seamless. If i were smart, I would have simply moved the black seamless further away, but I really didnt have the room in the studio. When i took the first few pictures I realized even with the softboxes pointing away from the roll of paper there was still some light spill from the softbox on camera left. I used a lightstand, and a large piece of cardboard to block the light from hitting the bg.
Additionally, I had a small piece of white foamcore in front of the bottle to reflect the Axe logo, as well, as two more pieces of foam core on either side of the bottle, to bring out more details in the blacks on the sides. Lastly, I held a piece of foam core above, to get that small highlight on the top. The fire, was achieved by spraying a line of lighter fluid on the glass and then lighting it just before exposure. Humorously, this is the one and only pic with the fire because the lighter fluid caught the piece of cardboard protecting the bg from light spill on fire and in a frantic few seconds had me freaked out as the rest of the set almost caught. Thanks for all the votes everyone. I can't think of anything for the next contest, so if the runner up wants to pick the topic I'd have no problem with that.

^^ lol at almost setting your place on fire. Good idea though, never thought of you using fluid to make a fire line. i thought you were using a stove or something.

btw, i have no idea for next comp either.

I don't want an EASY one! I only got 1 vote but I still enjoy the challenge of the contest!

I personally thought mine was pretty good for my first time at product photography, but apparently it wasn't good enough to get better than 2nd to last :( but the whole point of the competitions is to make it a challenge for use to use our creativity and actually PLAN ahead and create something awesome and not common.

Jeff, pick another tough one like your "out of the ordinary" topic!
