: CRSX September Photo Contest - Subject: Urban
Danger Mouse 09-04-2007, 09:50 AM ***Please read the rules carefully as they have been updated. Dates updated***
Subject chosen by Projekt ITR:
Urban
What do you see when you walk down the street? The concrete buildings, the houses, or the soon to be of a vacant lot are the different scenes we are accustom to. But, what is hidden in this urban jungle of ours? What is there besides the brick and mortar. Go take a walk and show us your city. Don't show us the city we see on post cards, show us the city that you see.

The nearest urban space is 50 minutes from me. With tons of assignments about to pop up in my classes, consider me out. :)
k2ouT 09-04-2007, 02:12 PM ^ damn, lol I'm not going to be able to do it either I think because the closest to me now I'm in college, is about 100 miles.
ABrownPhoto 09-04-2007, 02:52 PM Well then.... This will be interesting ;)
Danger Mouse 09-04-2007, 02:56 PM ^ damn, lol I'm not going to be able to do it either I think because the closest to me now I'm in college, is about 100 miles.
Which college you go to? I see it says you're in Houston.
Either way. You guys can take pictures of even just the small areas around where your college is located. Urban doesn't have to be a huge city.
Projekt ITR 09-04-2007, 03:24 PM ^ :iamwiths:
btw, nice paragraph DM.
kwork 09-04-2007, 03:35 PM If you live in a small town (like me) this just makes it more of a challenge.
I'm sure everyone knows where the "inner city" part of your town is located.
I'm gonna look for some train yard or housing project or old closed factory to see if there's a shot to be had.

Thanks, I tried as best I could. I suck at writing as seen apparent when looking at my grades for essays in english class.

Sorry to hear... :p
KillerBlackbird 09-05-2007, 03:07 PM I'm looking at the topic, then I'm thinking where I live. Vermont. Thats about as oposite as you can get. But if the topic is urban, urban is what your gonna get. Two hours of driving or not.
I'm definately in.

KillerBlackbird 09-09-2007, 01:01 PM Got mine last Friday night, not sure if I want to use it or not. It was the first time I've seen a cop wearing a bullet proof vest though. I had to stop for a red light and my friend tells me "Don't look to your left"...I'm like "why???".
Note to self: Do not drive truck in ghetto at 2AM.
Projekt ITR 09-09-2007, 02:55 PM ^ doesnt stop lights seem longer than usual? LOL

ABrownPhoto 09-11-2007, 01:33 AM I dont wanna talk about it.
Word on the street is you saw a grown man satisfying a camel....:shakehead
:weeeeeeeeee: :weeeeeeeeee:
Gonna try and shoot on Wed.
steguis 09-11-2007, 02:23 PM LoL....the other day, I saw something that was the funniest ish in the world. I was working in the office and I look out the window to the hotel across the street. I see this dude standing looking out the window into the street butt naked jerking off....LoL. What was classic was that just the floor below, there was this old lady looking out the window while drinking coffee with no clue what was going on just above her. Now that's urban
Projekt ITR 09-11-2007, 06:28 PM ^ were you wacking it to the guy jacking off?
kwork 09-11-2007, 10:08 PM I went around town this evening looking for potential subjects for this contest. I got scared. I wasn't about to roll my windows down, much less get out of my car with my gear. I may not be able to enter this contest :noes:
SitAndWatch 09-11-2007, 10:34 PM i think i got a good one if i can rem to bring my cam on the way to class and if it stops raining.
i got a question though. how do you resize it to fit the criteria of the rules?
Smalls 09-11-2007, 10:37 PM i use photoshop and just change the image size.
Projekt ITR 09-12-2007, 02:16 PM or you can upload it to photobucket which automatically resizes it
Smalls 09-12-2007, 02:24 PM true but i'd rather use a program that's meant for doing such tasks as resizing than a website that's meant for hosting.
you can play with the resolution while resizing in pshop, but not w/photobucket.

Told 'ya.
You walk into this contest all balls and confidence, then when you get to the location you want to shoot you never know what you are going to see or encounter. As a hint; I never got out of my truck when I shot mine, just rolled the window down, shot, and left. I wasnt able to get what I wanted to for a shot because if anyone saw me taking a photo from where I wanted to go they may of thought I was a cop...not always a good thing.

I passed 4-5 cop cars on my little ride around Compton and I bet every one of them thought I was there looking for drugs or a prostitute. I did think about slapping on my 80-200 and TC for a little spy from a distance action, but I was afraid somebody would sneak up behind me and slash my tires.
Smalls 09-12-2007, 10:40 PM i dont have those types of areas around me, so i might be a bit safer.
we'll see. im thinking of taking the picture regularly for the contest but also trying out HDR photography.
i dunno. since i read a tutorial on how to do it, i wanna see what i can produce.
abowersrsx 09-13-2007, 11:44 AM dayam. Im not goin anywhere near where i can potenially get mugged/shot at.
TegyAuto 09-13-2007, 01:38 PM Jesus Christ you guys are sissy  I live in Detroit and have no problem going anywhere in the city. The more dangerous the better that way their is less people with the same subject matter as me:p

Compton??!! You have bigger balls than I do...
kwork 09-13-2007, 03:19 PM Not really Compton, but our equivalent. Rough looking ghetto part of town with lots of people hanging out on front stoops just chillin.

abowersrsx 09-17-2007, 11:35 AM So....im guessing pictures will be up soon?

9. Submissions will be from 4st until the 18th of the month. No exceptions for late submissions.
means tonight @ midnight, right? or tomorrow night?
kwork 09-17-2007, 12:59 PM I had the 15th in the back of my head too, which is why I submitted on Friday.
Might've found a better subject if I realized I had 3 more days to look around, but not likely.
Danger Mouse 09-17-2007, 01:24 PM Normally I try to keep it consistent with on the dates from 1st-15th, however because of the holiday weekend I didn't have time to post up the contest so it got pushed back a few days.
The submission deadline will be 11:59pm central time on the 18th. Then the morning of the 19th I'll put up the pictures and poll.
Next month we should be back on schedule for the 1st-15th. The next deviation off the normal dates will probably be in January because of New Years. The contest will probably go up the 2nd or 3rd and then the normal amount of shooting days.
