I'm working on a little assignment. Which do you like better...with or without the film border? These are really rough right now so don't comment yet on my processing.

what's the assignment?
if you're going to put the film border maybe maybe make the picture more flat and add some grain?

I'm working on an abstracted self portrait.

well in that case i think the film strip adds a nice effect since (if i remember correctly) you're so interested in b&w photography

Yup, B&W is my thing...went straight for it with this image. I like the film border too, I just don't want it to overwhelm the shot. I still have other items to add to the abstract. I guess I see once I start building on it.

On one hand it adds something to the picture, on the other hand it's distracting.
I can't make up my mind which one I like.

I agree, it does add a lot of distraction. My vote is #1

i like it with the film. it wouldn't be a border - but part of the image itself if you went along with it.

I prefer it without the border. I think it pulls the focus away from the hand.

i enjoy the one without the boarder better. the boarder i feel takes away from the image

Reduce the opacity of the film border. Try something like 30-40% so it's barely there.
