: Considering going from DC5 to S2k....

I've been doing my research on doing the switch from RSX Type S to S2000, and I think I'm almost there.
I have a couple questions for you all, hopefully you can help me out with.

1. To anyone who went from RSX ----> S2k.... opinions? comments? regrets?

2. Is there a complete list of all the differences between AP1 and AP2? I know a few things from reading here and on s2ki, but I know there are more differences..

3. Are the headlights and tailights all interchangable throughout the model years?

Also, I've found 2 different s2k's that seem like good deals.
I'm mainly looking to get out of my DC5 and into the s2k for as little money as possible, so it looks like AP1 will probably be my best bet.

1- 2001 Red w/ 40k miles, ~$15,500 w/ my trade

2- 2003 Black w/ 55k miles, ~$17k w/ my trade

I havent started negotiating yet, so I could probably get the prices down a little bit. Do these seem like theyre in the right ballpark? Or should I keep looking?

A lot of your questions are answered in threads in this forum. I was browsing for only about an hour the other day and came across a lot of good information.

One thing I know is that a lot of people will mention that the 2001 model had a plastic rear window, which is shit and will need to be replaced.

Yeah, I know half of my questions will be answered in the next couple days of me researching them further, but Im hoping I can get some help from some s2k owners.

From my 2 s2k's I've found, I'm leaning towards the 03, one of the reasons being it has a glass rear window. The plastic window on the 01 isn't hazy or fogged yet.

i'm still fairly new, didnt do any research before i made the move, doing research now though lol

1. my s2k is so fun to drive...u get this great feeling driving it and i dunno if i can give that up. i love it cause its not something too common, and staying out is great. car turns heads  and i regret not keeping the rsx...not that i prefer the rsx over the s2k...its just i love my rsx too.

2. i'm sure you know most obivous stuff like the rev limit etc...so i'll just try and name the lil things i can think of because i'm just been doing research on the 06+ s2ks

ap2 has clutch delay & heavier flywheel
ap2 is 2.2l
06+ ap2s are dbw
also minor interior trim difference
06+ap2s have vsa

theres prolly more, i just cant think of it right now

3. yes

1. I sometimes miss my RSX, my little brother drives it now though... The thing I miss most is the hatch. Absolutely no regrets.

2. Differences: 00/01 to 02/03 (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=161997) 02/03 to 04/05 (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=483593) 04/05 to 06/07 (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=538016) and 06/07 to 08+ (http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=525439)

3. You can swap headlights at will, swapping ap2 tail lights into an ap1 requires cutting a few holes that you don't see once everything in put back together

Thanks guys.

If I make the switch, itd be kind of out of the blue and impulsive, but Im feeling it might be a good thing. Not that I NEED to buy a new car or anything. I know I'll miss the RSX but the s2k is sooooo tempting and I never realized I can afford one.

just know that you are sacrificing back seats, reclining seats, and comfort. you might think your rsx isnt that comfy now, but wait until you dd the s2k. i myself regretted it for a couple of weeks, but im starting to grow into the car. its noisy for sure, you cant fuck around with your bitch in the car, you can hear all the wind noise.. but then you have these amazingly short throws, a torqey(ier than the rsx lol) motor, and convertable. all in all, just know what you're getting yourself into.

so true but a lot of ppl who dont like the s2k:

-need the trunk space or 4 seats
-too fat to fit in it comfortably (no offense but you usually see the "larger" people in evos/stis)
-don't like coverts.
-have a need for decent torque

I never once regretted getting a s2000. The handling just wins it for me. Fun to drive, and puts a smile every time I drive it. Parts can get expensive but its part of the game. I had the opportunity to get any s2000 I wanted but after driving both I fell in love with an ap1 and got a great deal on it so I'm satisfied. I DD my s2000 and its perfectly fine, but soon it will be a weekend warrior and track beast because I'm likely getting a honda fit.

Update: I'm going to be looking into a few local s2k's in the next week or two. If it seems like it'd be too much effort, or it just doesnt look like I'm going to be able to get one, I'll be completely fine with keeping the DC5.

Either way I just want to settle on a car for sure so I can start prepping it for tracking.

i loved the rsx and i now love the s2k. the pluses for me was

#1 - lsd/rwd combo (traction is 100 times better than the rsx's stock tranny from a dig and cornering)
#2 - steering feel (100 times better and no bump steer on uneven pavement like the rsx)
#3 - handling/cornering
#4 - no wheel hop & no 2nd gear grind
#5 - stock ride height - it's low enough for me unlike the rsx's stock ride height
#6 - stock header has long primaries with a cat bolted on that's easy to removed/replaced
#7 - no vibration or motor mount inserts needed for a aftermarket header install
#8 - two seater
#9 - soft top
#10 - hondata reflash for the '06+ models, not a fan of the k-pro rsx option for the earlier non-dbw models but nice for boost applications although hondata and krathwerks now have a s/c kit for the '06+ models.
#11 love the body style and long hood.
#12 easy fix to prevent CEL with a Test Pipe.

negs

- no cargo room like the rsx's hatch back that can carry almost anything. had to buy a pickup truck to carry stuff.

- hard to get into and out of for big peeps. i'm short and stocky and the car fits me just right. anyone 6'+ tall will have trouble getting in and out.

- the push start button is over rated and dated the way it works. you still have to insert the key into the ignition switch and turn to the start position then push the button. if you have the key on your person the push button should start the car and have remote start.

- i miss the k-pro i had on the rsx.

Is there anything specifically to be wary about 2000 S2000s? I've noticed a few fairly-priced specimens of that year in my area and I've been pondering switching over from my '03 Type-S (I plan to start autoxing soon).

Thanks for starting this thread, OhSixTeg and getting some good questions answered.

The only thing I dont like about the early S2k's are the plastic rear window. Just make sure it's in good condition and not hazed over or anything.

Are there any good aftermarket or oem hardtop choices? I'd be interested in converting over to one of those for a little better security and a quieter cabin during long drives.

I'm in a similar spot. I sat in an AP2 the other day & it was a tight fit for me, but I'm hoping that the backyard lowered seat rails would help me out with that a bit. If I do get one it will not be a DD since I have my company truck to drive around.

But then I think about it & my RSX is paid off & I haven't driven it in 3-4 weeks. So do I really want to spend some cash & get into (small) monthly payment for something that I will only drive a few times a month ??

I'm still debating.

RSX/RSX-S to 350Z= an upgrade imo

I tell you what, I was torn between an S2K & a 350Z (I've had other Z's when I was younger).

A few week back I met this guy that had a Nismo Z & we got to talking & he let me drive his car, although I did have more room than in the S2K, the Z felt "fat" & not all that much faster than my RSX.

The RSX feels much more nimble than the Z.

Amuse (oem-ish, not sure on price)

Wouldn't waste my time with Seibon replicas, fitment = shitty.

The Nissan Three Fiddy Z is a beautiful piece of machinery, think of it as the warpig of the plaground. Its all really in what you want, if you want a lightweight "Miata/Gocart" like vessel thats a convertible/roadster, cop an S2K. Personally im a coupe/hatch kind of guy (not into convertibles/roadsters) and i dont like to own cars that look/are "smallish" ie. Miata, S2K (i like em but not to own ;)). so the beefy lookin 350Z is my pick. Plus its not a Honda, no negative connotation that comes with the car, minimal popo attention as well as theft attetion, etc. :) I guess im just slowly pulling away from Honda and would rather look into Nissan/Toyota. If the new Celica comes out....then that would be bad ass. (Toyota is collaborating with Subaru on the new Celica...if it does become a reality). Base Celica will be rwd and the Celica GT-4 will be awd. *google it if your interested.

50/50

I really like them, but there still a few things that I'm not convinced about.

first, my size. Will I actually be comfortable in one? I sat in one & it was a tight fit. I imagine if I modify the seat to lower it an inch more that may help. but still not convinced.

second, the RSX is paid off. Do I really want to get into payments for something that I will only drive a few times a month?

no, I know.

what I was talking about was taking it apart & modifying where it mounts to the rails in order to lower it a bit. Saw a thread on S2Ki on that.

Either that or blow $300 on those Backyard seat rails.

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm going to novice school next weekend so how interested that gets me in doing more autocrossing has a lot to do with what I decide. I know I'd miss the RSX though- I just got new headlights for it and I've been catching myself looking over my shoulder as I walk away from it, haha.

Do you have a Type S or base and what year is it? You really might want to reconsider if you have a S, think about it, you will be buying an 8 or 9yo car that has most likely been thrashed on. Overall it is your money and decision to make.

Just remember, as simple as this may sound, the S2K is RWD! Please be careful with this car coming from a far less powerful FWD. The years you are looking @, while a blast to drive, are notorious for being tail happy and you may easily lose control... Just go easy with the car until you get a lot of seat time in her and make the adjustments is my advice my friend...

^ yes 03 and up s2k's have the tan interior option, IIRC... It may have been offered for the 2002 MY, but I'm not certain? I've seen custom tan interiors in Berlina Black and New Formula Red s2k's before, which look STUNNING by the way, but nothing from the factory other than Grand Prix White, well for the US market anyways...

I've been restraining myself, but believe it or not, my girlfriend is actually pushing me to get an s2000 so that we can have something fun to cruise around in when I accompany her on business trips as I sometimes do. She's a big Honda fan so I get mean looks when I suggest any other sports car... I love this girl, haha.

Anyways, she's getting a new Civic in a few months and has offered to let me use her '96 civic coupe while I sell the RSX and look for a good s2000. As much as I love the RSX, I think I'd be a dolt not to go for this.

I'm trying to decide if I should revert back to stock before putting the car up for sale or if I should leave everything and offer to revert/include the original parts. Maybe I should just revert the i/h & K-pro but leave the stereo system w/ stealth install subs?

My s/o and I test drove a few cars this weekend.

'08 and '09 Civic Si- The shifter/clutch was simply amazing. I had way more fun driving this car than I expected I would. I seriously hope she picks this to replace her '96 Civic.

07(?) Civic Hybrid - I knew about the CVT before we got in but it was still very odd not to feel the normal lurches and shifts of a conventional transmission. Not really interested but we thought we'd try it out.

'03 350Z - This one was an automatic- bummer. It wore its weight well around the turns but what I didn't like was that while it would go fast, the only way I could tell was by the speedometer. It just didn't give me the sensation of speed- maybe because being in the cabin felt like being in a submarine. Don't get me wrong, I still walked away thinking it was a very nice car.

'06 S2000 - Getting into this car again was a very bad idea- now I'm just getting more impatient about selling my car and switching over. Being in a number of different cars on the same day really reinforced how much I enjoy everything about the interior and the energetic communication from the engine when getting into the upper rpms.

The switch is still a couple of months out though :( . Next weekend we're going out for another batch of test drives. I'm hoping to find an ap1 to try since I will likely end up in one of those due to them being a bit cheaper than the ap2s.

There should be nothing to ever consider. S2000 10000%. Once i test drove it there was no way I could ever go back to my big winged wrong wheel drive RSX type S. Even though I loved it...The S2K stock handled better than my track prepared RSX and my 350z and my buddies E36 M3 and better than my DA integra and DC2 integra and my buddies Subaru WRX wagon....

It is a great car, especially through the twists. While straight line performance is lacking, that isn't what this was built for. It is really an engineering marvel in terms of what the objective was and how they met it.
