Do you want to know my sign too? :laughing: Chrsx 07-23-2008, 10:00 AM If you're looking for some rules of thumb, these are some that I've picked up over time, and think they're pretty good guidelines: - Your car should cost less than 1/3 your annual salary (monthly payment 5-7%). - Your home should be less than 3 times your annual salary... which means your mortgage payment should be less than 28% of your income. - You should be banking 5% of your salary (at minimum). - You should be investing in 6% for retirement (401k, IRA, mutual funds, etc.) This brings you to about 75% of your income accounted for (assuming 30% state/federal income tax). Your remaining 25% goes to utilities, necessities, and entertainment. Of course, you can exceed these, but then your standard of living drops in other areas for your particular salary.
