Replace the OEM antenna with a DIY low profile antenna, nearly impossible to steal. So, is this antenna short enough for ya? The downside, AM reception is poor from weak stations. I'm probably going to paint it Silverstone (the fastest color).

OK so it's really a relocation, not a replacement. The antenna was relocated inside the trunk. Since my trunk is gutted, access was easy. Removing the right side trunk paneling will reveal the antenna amp in the right rear fender.

1. Remove the antenna from the antenna base sitting outside the fender.
2. Unscrew the collar with 4 notches, I used a special tool but if you're VERY careful needle nose pliers will also work, mask around the antenna base with duct tape incase you slip.
3. Loosen the 10mm bolt holding the amplifier to a bracket inside the fender, drop the amp out of the bracket and remove the antenna cable, power connector and completely remove the 10mm bolt.
4. Strip 1" of insulation off the ends of a 14 gauge, 6" long grounding wire then attach one end to the metal collar around the top of the amp, I just twisted it around the pin assembly which was digging into the body work from inside the trunk.
6. Bolt the amp to the brace above the spare tire well using an existing hole and bolting from above the brace down into the nut welded to the the bracket on the amp. Be sure to sandpaper off the paint around the hole as the other end of the grounding wire should be sandwiched between the brace and the amp. I reached in from the passenger compartment since the panels behind my seats are gutted.
7. Plug in the antenna cable, power connector and screw in the antenna. I replaced the stubby OEM S2000 antenna with a longer one for a Honda Element ($19 from Honda) to help with reception.
8. Cap the hole in the fender with a plastic plug ($.35 from a hardware store). Note the hole is slightly oval with a diameter of 1" short way and 1 1/8" long way. so get a plug with a base diameter of 1 1/8" to completely cover the hole. You can secure it with a very small bead of silicone or drill out 2 holes in the base to run a cotter pin through it.

This sounds more complicated than it is, once you remove the antenna amp it'll be clearer.

Radio? What is that? I know of only ipod and xm...

Seriously, seems like a good idea on paper, but is antenna theft really that rampant?

Find that guy in the FS section who has a box full of s2k antennas. I guarantee he has two of yours in there.

Loctite or some sort of thread locker + tighten the fuck out of your antenna using a set of pliers w/ a shop rag as to not scar it and you're golden.

Can obviously still be taken if the person wants it bad enough, but you won't have to worry about some douche just unscrewing it leisurely by hand in a parking lot.
