Hey guys, Today I was cleaning my CAI air filter and noticed a lot of oil under my car. Upon further inspection, it looks like I'm leaking transmission fluid from where the RIGHT side driveshaft goes into the transmission.
What parts do I need (seals im assuming) and how hard is it to DIY?
Sounds like an output shaft seal, I've done mine a few times. Its relatively easy to do. Take off the axle nut,(either drop the BJ or loosen the arm off) drop the drive shaft, old seal out, new seal in and throw it back together.
Make sure you clean out where the seal goes really good. Also make sure you dont put it in to far or the it will eat up the seal almost instantly. I had this problem on the GF's car went through two seals before i got it right. Should only take you an hour tops to do it with a break here and there. Also if the seal dont work it could be a bearing and thats a pricey fix. Seal is $10 from the dealer.
anyone know the part number or a name for the seal???
Edit 1:
ok I think it's part number 91206-PHR-003
Dealer price is a whopping $16.60
Online price from acura dealer, $6.60.
How is the local dealer charging twice the retail of this seal???? (Retail is only $8.80)
edit 2:
haha as soon as i mentioned i knew the list price was 8.80 and why the dealer was charging 2x above retail they immediately told me they can do $8.80.
dealer just called it a shaft seal (either passenger side or driver side)
Here are the part numbers for future reference.
Driver side shaft Oil seal: 91205-PL3-B01 List price is $10.50
Passenger side shaft oil seal: 91206-PHR-003 List Price is $8.80
Dealer price will be higher, just tell them you'll pay list price only.
