It might be quick, but it still doesn't have the look of a performance car. It's a frickin' Corolla. I'd rather stay with my slow ass base...
I'm just outright disappointed with Toyota the past couple of years. Instead of making a "performance" version of a economy car, why not build a sports car from the ground up. This makes me sad and long for the days of the Supra and MR2
The previous gen might have had something going since it used the same engine as the Celica GT-S, but even then, it was a Corolla at heart.
A run of the mill Civic for comparison doesn't mind being driven hard even though its gutless, they actually handle with some promise. A Corolla on the other hand feels like a bag of worms, its just starts with too much of a deficit to become anything fun IMO.
Then you add that the high revving engine is gone on the new ones, replaced by the 2.4L from the Camry and well, no thanks.
The last gen before this one was a fun car. My friend has an XRS with only a CAI and custom exhaust he went mid or low 14's....VVTLi is nice. Not to mention one of my best runs was with a local XRS. He has intake, exhaust, suspension, tires and a tune making about 210 whp and he has some lightening too.
Wow, that's a pretty big increase. Still though, being under 25 carries a certain amount of "insurance points". I guess that and the car change to a "sports coupe" accounts for it. That's crazy though. I'm gonna have to look back and see what I was paying for insurance on tha RSXS.
i keep hearing that "lift" (vvtl-i) in the celica gts, xrs, etc motor is better than vtec. is there really a clear comparison of what lift does vs i-vtec? (cam phasing, timing, profiles etc...not that i know what those really are)
lift is much less linear then i-vtec, it kicks in hard because the powerband is awful
the corolla xrs and 05+ matrix xrs have improved low and mid range but at the expense of 10hp on the top and and you cant stay in lift because it engages at 6800 rpms...still the old xrs was an amusing drive
my bro has an 03 pontiac vibe gt with 174,000 miles...its amusing...runs pretty good
