Depends on the product...Some dealerships like you to have experience while others dont really care...they will put you out there to see what you can do...

Trans service

The RSX-S looks interesting. One thing that really concerns me is the 6 speed. What percentage of cars sold have been returned for tranny service? I know this is not a sales question, but as an insider, you may have the scoop. From reading the boards, that is the #1 problem with the car.

In all honesty i couldnt answer that question. My dealership sees very few cars with this problem....but that is just my dealership, I cannot speak for others. I know many people on this board experience this problem but also a huge contributing (sp) factor is that now that people on this board know about it they bring it right in for service where someone that has no clue what to look for might think it is "normal"

If there are alot in stock they can pick one up for 200 over....If they shop around and "shop us" we will sell it at invoice...but if they wanna be nice and let us sell it for 200 over we will....

what general assumptions are made about a person based on ethnicity? is it even something that goes through your mind? it has to be right? i've read the undercover car salesman article a while back and i was wondering if this was a major issue. i've never seen something like this on an enthusiast board. props to you and this message board.

It really depends on the Salesperson. Some people will see a group of "white" people drive up in a minivan and get out and run out there to take the "up" because they think they are buyers. That same person might shy away from the 2 black kids walking around looking at 25k cars. The dealership and type of car doesnt matter, it is the salesperson that makes the difference in the process. For instance, you could go buy a Volvo, Your salesperson is great and the process is very easy. You refer your friends to that dealership and they get a different salesperson, and they have a horrible experience.

My point of that last part was to show you that it depends on the salesperson. We all draw conclusions based on race, age, what they drive up in, what they are dressed like, I cannot say I havent done it. I have. But in my years in the car business I have found out that EVERYBODY buys cars. So thats why I now keep an open mind.

I want to get an RSX type s, but am debating on whether to get a new or a used one. All the extra's I'd really want on the car from the dealer are: power sunroof, rear spoiler (other spoilers would be nice, like rear-bottom), and fog lights (titanium look would be nice but I don't really care).. I did a pre owned search around my area and found one for about $21k (2002 with 24,520 miles)... how much could I get this down to (for instance, what would be zero profit... KBB listed something like 19K or so), or would it just be cheaper to buy a 2004 RSX-S with the options listed above (and how much would they go for... I think KBB listed it around $22)? + tax and whatnot

If you buy a 2004 RSX the price will be in the 22,000 Range depending on the dealership you go to. Now, if you want foglights that is another 600bucks installed.....and the spoiler is about 650 installed....that is 23200.....plus tax and license. If you buy a used one it will be tough to find one with both a spoiler and foglights...but if you do for a 2002 with 25k i wouldnt pay more than 19k private party and for a 2003 with about 15k i wouldnt pay more than 20500 with those options...

One more question... Do you guys go with any of the optional items (rear spoiler, bottom spoilers etc), or are they cheaper to put them on yourself? Some of the prices on the acura website (and mentioned above, ie $600 for fog lights) seem pretty expensive....

The reason they seem pretty expensive on the website is that they are including the price of the install with the price of the item. If you want the Acura Foglights or Rear spoiler (OEM) it will cost you...there is no way around that...

Jason is right on this. I recently bought a car from him. Good salesman by the way. I wanted the fog lights, and it did cost me an arm and a leg ($650 installed). That's why I'm waiting and saving for my OEM body kit and spoiler.

Internet Price? You mean like www.kbb.com? That would be your best chance....Look up Private Party and Retail and pay in the middle...

Well its in my other thread, a 2003 used rsx-s they said 21,900. They would "stretch and lower" to 21,500 because its an "internet price" and that stays the same.
