ok to hit VTEC at 450 miles??
while searching for the best way to break in my car on CRSX, i found that there was a lot of controversy between which method is the best.
1. drive your car hard right off the lot 2. vary the rpms but never hit VTEC till 600 miles well, i went on my nightly drive yesterday and i was tempted to hear the iVTEC in action so i rev it up in second gear and whew wow!i was suprised. after that, it was like an immediate addiction to me and i ended up hiting it 3 more times all w/in 10 minutes. i have varied the rpm whenever i drive because its usually in the city. i only have 450 miles and i was wondering if it was okay for me to hit VTEC that many times. (once in 1st, twice in 2nd, and once in 3rd) your thoughts are highly appreciated

Up until 600 miles....
I had probably hit v-tec about 5-7 times..... I wasn't happy about it though....because it would make me paranoid Now I hit it daily pretty much. Then again I have under 1,000 miles on the ODO |

vtecing it isn't that bad...I would just avoid punching the gas and stressing the motor. at least don't redline it again until after 600-700 miles. a little bit of slowly accelerating to 6-7k might not be bad for the motor.

Just go drive around a little while, thats what i did. The first day I got my car I put about 200 miles on it just driving around.

That controversy will never end.
Drive it hard to break it in, drive it soft to break it in, vary your rpms from high to low... No overwhelming answers here

well, the reason i hit VTEC was to vary the RPMS.
i did this because there is a relation between people who floor their cars right away and their higher quarter mile time (may be the driver, who knows )i already varied up to 450 miles (>=4500rpms) so i thought it would be alright to hit VTEC if people were stomping the gas while they left the dealership. hope everything works out and i dont eat oil. im just going to do it my way, and have a little fun

Who's the big winner????

ummm yeah when I first got my car I had to drive it home from Austin TX I didn't drive fast but I used cruise control the whole way ( a break in no no ) and then the first stop sign I hit in my town I redlined it through 1st 2nd 3rd ( another no no). I was so excited that when I got home I took my g/f out and redlined 123 two more times. When I got home I was so crazy about the car that I read the owners manual front to back. I was flipping through the pages and saw BREAK IN PERIOD. I started reading and freaked out a bit so I tried to find some kind of RSX website to find out how bad I messed up the car. I found CRSX and the rest as they say is history. I have just under 5000 miles on the odo and not a single problem.
I really did my homework before I bought this car the second shocker was that it took Premium Gas. Thank GOD I read the owners manual.

The only advice I can give you is not to drive it like a sissy like I did. But, then, I had tranny issues with my Civic due to the prior owner, so paranoia got the better of me with my RSX. My car still doesn't feel like it's fully broken in even at 13k miles, but it's getting there, lol.

What are you made of...

Its better if you red line it every time you shift and you can feel the "POWER"
that will guarantee it will breakin!! thats for sure!! ![]() j/k ![]() Just try not ti push it too hard Vtec is better than the redline if its not broken in yet.

Ah yes, thanks much, Krystar. After actually doing a search (I know, I know...just not used a MB Search function being worth crap...) I learned all I need to know about vtec.
Gonna have to find the opportunity to experience it =). |
