Raz K20a3 cams, untuned dyno, 30whp gain

Please keep in mind that the map I used to obtain these dynos is a very very rough calibration. There is more power to be had. How much? I'm not sure, so don't ask. The base map that will ship with the cams will have a much smoother powerband and possibly greater peak numbers. I also expect that fresher motors will make better numbers as the test motor has 114,000+ miles.

right click save-as for video

Graphs are SAE standardized with level 5 smoothing.

Wow. Nice gains just from swapping out the cams. What other mods does the test car have?

All I can say right now is wow.

That is certainly an immense gain for just putting in the cams and there is still more power to gain with some tuning as well.

I see on the dyno sheets that there is a power dip at 4.5k but I'm sure you might be able to tune that out eventually, very nice to see that there is some N/A hope for the K20A3.

Since this was done on an EP3, I just wonder who will be the guinea pig for the base RSX 5-spd.

Very nice numbers and congrats chunky. You will be offering other sets of these cams for sale right?

I forgot to ask, is your idle still very rough with the cams? What RPM are you idling at with the new cams?

i havent kept up to ur other thread but will it work for base auto? disregarding the ECU tuning part.

no a/f charts to look at? i'd like to see the a/f mix to see if any more tuning can gain HP, which i'm pretty sure it will but u cant change cam angle via safc2.

like I said, this map is untuned. I put this map together before the cams were put in the car, and it was only modified enough to let the car idle w/o stalling. it needs a LOT of work.

Damn, very nice numbers chunky.

Looks like vtec needs changed a little...but none the less, great gains and good numbers from an A3.

Peak power around 7.5k, and good torque numbers.

Not to mention a 30whp gain over stock, wow!!!!

Great job and great untuned numbers man. Try and see if you can find an A3 down in Torrance as a guinea pig and pay sean chruch/hondata to do a full tune on this. If you are going to be selling this then its definately a good idea to get them to do a full tune so that it could eventually be included in KPRO.

Nice #s! You seem to be revving a bit high though for a stock K20a3 bottom end.

Wow I wanna see what this is like after tuning. I would like to be a guinea pig for the 5 spd base, but I live in Illinois...and I don't know what I'm doing so I don't know how well that'd work out...

I'm sorry, but while the peak whp gains are very impressive, am I the only one concerned about the *huge* losses from 2000 to 5-5500rpm, where you'll spend 80% of your time at?

I realize you say you have a lot of tuning to go, but do you think you'll be able to get that low-mid range up to some good numbers?

I don't want to be a party-pooper, but if I saw mid-range losses like that, I'd be a bit concerned....

Peace

Heh, how much would these cams cost? And do you think it's possible that if a base 5 speed were to have the same setup as yours, it'll dyno with less power? Since it's got a plastic IM and you have the aluminum IM. Because I noticed that the base drops in hp quicker around 7000 rpms than the civic si. thanks in advance

Heh, now that you mentioned it, I just noticed that as well. At lower rpms, there's a considerable loss in HP...I just hope that can be fixed with more tuning or whatever. Otherwise it might not be a very good daily driver
