300zx twin turbo or 350z?
After numerous times of contemplating what sports car I would really be happy with. I came up with a decision of where my heart is at. Nissan.
Now I've always had a thing for the 300zx turbo/NA 2 seat, and when the 350z came out, thought it was a good car, but the styling was just too wierd for me, but over the course of seeing them on the road, it has grown on me, minus the door handle design. My RSX-S I really do love, the design, interior, and engine. But its just lacking something in a sporty car, RWD, torque. I think its time to give up on the Honda scene and go back to my roots either with a pre-owned 350z, or obviously used, low mileage 300zx tt. I am 75% leaning towards the 300zx tt at the moment. I know that the 350z is known for a "tire feathering" issue that wears out tires in a matter of 10k miles or so. My dad has a G35c 6spd that I really do love, but I don't need a backseat and all the other luxury amenities it has. The 300zx will be higher maintainance with turbos, but then again this is going to be my "toy/weekend car" since my RSX is that right now and my '91 Maxima is my daily driver/commuter. This new vehicle will only see 5-9k miles per year. If anyone has experience with either car, or would like to express their opinion, please post up. ![]()

Sweet cars and I fully understand your position on going back to your roots. I felt the same way when I spent 8 months looking for a clean GN.
Unfortunately, I don't have hands on experience with these cars so I only can offer an opinion at best. My best advice is to join a 300Zx or 350Z site and spend a lot of time asking questions and reading. They are a wealth of information at times. I didn't know much about GNs except published information in magazines and then I joined a few sites and it helped me a great deal when I was looking. I hope you find that weekend warrior you are looking for. I'm only here because Danish, one of the cool guys here at ClubRsx, told me about this site and I'm helping a friend make his Type S faster.

from a z32 300zx owner, get the 300zxtt!!! such a sweeter car than the 350z, not to mention awesome mod potiental, very easy to get HP numbers out of reach to the 350z on the 300zx. Yes you need to make sure you get a maintained one, any questions about them u can pm me.

For modability I'd say go with 300zxtt. 350z is still an awesome car though. I think you'd be happy with either. I'd say it depends on what you can get for your money and the availability of well-maintained Zx's. Good luck!

I started out as a huge 300zx fan, but never actually got one. I did get a 350Z and it is a fun car. I wanted something with a warranty and the 350 is fine for me because I don't mod my cars. Its not a bad daily driver either.

My brother just bought a 300zx TT black. Superb condition with nice upgrades.
Pulls very nicely, and the styling is still up-to date for a 13 year old car. If you really want a true sports car, get one of the great JDM supercars. the cars of today, you wont see in the same condition, or potential as the older cars of 93-97. Best years for super cars, Mr2, nsx, supra, 300zx, 240, rx7, etc......

im really biased towards the g35c...but i have driven both the 350z, g35c, and 300zx...i like them all very much, i would definately get the g35c over all of them personally.
im behind you with any of those though for sure.

300 all the way! I think it has alot more potential. My advise is to find one on EBAY with all the upgrades, new turbo, exaust, wheels, fuel maps and pumps, all the fixins.... just plan on doing a head rebuild when you get it ($350-$500), the bottom end usually is pretty bullet-proof.

I found a red, stock, 5spd turbo on ebay with 49k selling for $13k. Car looks immaculate from the pics and was maintained right from the receipts on the car. cloth seats would be my preference, but I'm not going to let that get in my way. Just don't want to buy a car in CO and not being able to see it prior to purchase.

I would go for the 350Z. Better investment. Better ride. Who doesn't like a new car?
I think the 300ZX might outperform the 350Z. But overall I think the 350Z is a better package. My friend let me test drive it. I was more than impressed by everything about the car - at least compared to my base RSX at the time. I considered buying it when I went to trade in my base. But since I'm a Honda fanboy I just wouldn't buy that 350Z or that Mazda RX-8. It came down to S2K or Type-S and I got the Type-S because I like the driver orientated dash, 4 seats, and fun to upgrade. + RWD = No Fun in Chicago winter. I'd always say no matter what, always go for the new cars. They might seem undevloped and maybe all you want to look at is performance, but after sometime you will see why newer cars are just better. I mean I would hope so at least, it wouldn't make sense that cars got worse over time (unless your talking about a certain Domestic brand). |
