Stainless or Alum. piping...hmm..

whats the pros and cons of using Stainless Steel VS Alum? i'm going to redo my ic pipping... if there a right way and a wrong way to do this? as far as flow characteristic goes? I alwasy was thinking about a 2.25 or a 2.5 inch goig to the intercooler form the turbo.. then 2.5 going to a 3 inch (3inch closer to the TB) like rsxracerblack (brandon) did... i was thinking about making it routing like Greddy's .. any word guys?

3" is difficult. michael tried it but wasnt successful. he had to replace it with 2.5".

aluminum piping is best. lightweight, doesnt rust, and dissipates heat better.

steel needs to be powdercoated or it will have a chance of rusting, also is heavy as hell.

it takes a special type of welder to weld aluminum i believe. but just call the shop and make sure they can do it.

use aluminum. wouldnt it be harder to run the piping like greddy, there is barely any room to start with. you would prob want to route it the same as the CN kit.

Yes stainless steel is heavier, but isn't aluminum more expensive? That's not an easy material to produce.

As far as sizing vs power goes, it's pretty much air volume versus velocity. Smaller piping has a faster air flow (increase torque) while larger ones just have more airflow (increase horsepower). I'm not 100% sure on that however...

pretty sure about your statement....unless your runnin a bad ass setup there is no need for 3 inch piping... regardless 3 inch SS and aluminum are both pretty expensive in regards to the size of the piping alone...

Bringing this thread back to life. Can anyone confirm Keith DC5 about the piping size?

I will be using a rev hard FMIC that has 2.25 in and 2.25 out. Would I be better off running 2.25 piping or 2.5 piping? Setup will most likely be in a EK k20a2, with gt35r. Daily driven with room to grow in the future.

stainless is a biotch to weld. a lot heavier, prolly more expensive. as far as the aluminum goes, if you can't find some1 2 weld it, prep it 4 welding and ill weld it up 4 u. how thick is it? im certified alum. mig and alum. tig.

I have a custom 3in SS(kteller) exhaust for my car w/out any problems. And SS won't rust,it will last a life time. Aluminum will rust over time.

your correct. but i think its a little different than rust, its more or green shit, starts to look galvanized, good lord dont put galvanized on it. that crap is dangerous. sucks to weld 2. try drinking cold milk on a hot summer day. it sucks. but thats what the test called 4.

I also want to redo my piping, but i dont kno which size to get. I am using the greddy turbo kit on my car with the greddy fmic. What size piping does greddy use on the fmic? is it 2.25 or 2.5? Also, will my hks ssqv BOV be able to fit on both 2.25. or 2.5 piping with the same flange(the universal one i got from hks) that i have?
