Im doing a persuasive speech :

Im doing a persuasive speech for my marketing class, but i need to submit a topic in soon to the professor. I want to do something with autocrossing, but any other topic other than cars will work. You guys have any recommendations on topics that incorporate autocross? If not, any topic at all?

18463 is an unknown quantity on c-rsx
You could do a speech on why the double wishbone suspension is better for autocross than a MacPherson strut suspension. You would have to explain the geometry advantages of the double wishbone set up versus the strut. You could also explain why automotive designers use the strut suspension even though it is "inferior." It would take some research but if you have the time it should prove interesting to any gearheads in the class. For the rest, well, you probably didn't listen to their speech either.

Just a suggestion.

Maybe that more power only hurts the average driver?

That's a technical evaluation... not something to persuade. It would be interesting, but there's nothing to debate. The facts all lean one way.

Yeah, that would be a tough.

You're going to into car-related, because the natural tendency is to pick something that is a point of complaint or uninformed contention.

The purpose of this assignment is probably to take a side on a debatable issue... and defend it. You can't really debate technical advantages/disadvantages. They just ARE.

It's hard to do this on a hobby because it's just a hobby and has little practical value... unless you talk about how learning the limits of your car at the track help you on the street. Good luck finding data to back you up, though.

The only car-related topic I can think of off the top of my head is making the public roads safer by having police enforce safe driving laws, rather than speed laws.

BTW:

Alright, enough with teh bewbies. I don't mind him asking for topics. But if you ask for help with your outline you get teh lokc

My .02 is that people don't know enough about cars or racing to make it an effective persuasive topic. Persuasion implies people are familiar enough with something to have at least formed some sort of opinion, one you hope to change.

My freshman year in college I did a switch to Mac persuasive speech. That was 1995. With OS X out now and a billion viruses in the wild the speech should be a lot easier. But now we're off topic.

I remember doing this shit back in college (when I was still going to college). I did a persuasive speech on the fact that drivers that auto-x and/or road race make for better and safer drivers on the motorway (my gosh that sounds unbelievably british, don't it?).

If you ever get into parly, let me know, I love parly.

Oh, and a big hint to get you a better score, DON'T WRITE OUT YOUR ENTIRE SPEACH! Know your facts, know what you're going to say and just use an outline or bulleted notes to help you along the way. This way, you keep your head up, eyes on your audiance and allows you to utilize hand movements within "the box" and also allows you to "walk the diamond" if you're not at a lecturn.

I think this is probably the best bet if you want to talk about racing in some form. It's akin to the gun control argument which always has teeth (you could even work in a comparison)

Just like last two post:
I would suggest you present the benefit of the skills one acquires auto-x'ing (ie. knowing how to handle your car in a emergency situation) vs. the average driver

You could also have a broader topic of why it's important to learn car control, with autox as one of many ways to do so (along with 1-day skip barber/jim russell clinics, etc)
