Streets of Willow 5-5-06
Hello,
I apologize for this particular video, but it's the only one I took that day. I was hoping you folks could give me some insight as to what I need to improve on in my driving. I know it's hard to determine from this video, so if not, I'll try again next time. Click here to see Video

Ok, I found another site to host the video. It's up and running.
I recently found out that I ran with a screwed up map. So here, I was only 210 in opposed to 240 whp, haha~. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix with re-uploading the map with no serious complications. Anyhoo, please give me your driving and whatnot recomendations, thanks!

Looks like a fun track. The camera angle was really wierd. You couldn't see straight ahead, kinda facing left, so I couldn't really see the line. It kinda made me dizy. LOL. The only criticism I could give would be to keep both hands on the wheel. In the middle of the video you had your hand on the shifter a lot even while turning. Most of the video it was fine though.
You probably just started getting too comfortable. It looked fun and fast. I'm jelous!

Ahh I see you have an lsd, that must work wonders. I'm just itching to put mine in the car as well.
Thanks for the criticism, I never took notice of that. I too apologize for the bad camera angle. If the passenger wasn't there, you would've been able to see the line, and the lighting wouldn't have been so skewed. I'll just make sure the next video is a bit clearer in quality. Anyone else have some constructive criticism?

Hopefully this will help you turn some faster laptimes.
For the vid itself, see if you can set the exposure to one level. Parts were blown out, all white, and seeing where the edges of the track isn't easy. Now here's my disclaimer. I drive a base that has K-pro. My 3rd gear tops out at about 100 mph. Your different gearing may vary your results. Turn 1 - go flat out and don't let off the gas. Don't bother down shifting, do that before turn 2 instead. It takes some balls, but once you do it you can go through there so much faster. The braking zone at the end before turn 2 can get a little hairy if you have a tail happy car. The lines that I were taught had later apexes. Like Turn 3 I'd be in the middle of the course and then come in. I'd end up at the far left right before turn 4. Same deal with the Turn 7 before the bowl I hope I have the turn number right. After the back straight I usually just left off the gas and head into the chicane. Point it right and you can go straight through it allowing you to use it as a braking/downshifting zone. Try those out and see how they work for you. I'll bet you can find another 1 sec drop in your lap times if you just carry a little more speed through turn 1 and before the chicane. You pretty much got the line down well. BTW, what org did you run with? tires? lap times? Last edited by Midnight Runner; 05-13-2006 at 04:48 AM. |

Thanks for the advise, I'll definetely keep them in mind. As for the video, the passenger's head took alot of the focus from the camera, so the track (whiteness background), was screwed up.
I ran with Redlines, I ran on Bridgestone S-03's 225/45/17. Best time was during my first run session of 1'38, consecutively 1'40 second session, but they haven't posted results for the later sessions. I don't think it'd matter much anyhow, my times progressively got worse as my tires began to die. They caused me to end my day a bit early.

How did the S-03's look by the end of the day? Any chunking? What cold or hot psi did you start/end with in the tires?

im from southern cal.
PM me know if anyone wants to buy four used kumho v710 16inch track slicks. Ive used them for a total of 11 laps on streets of willow. they are still in excellent condition, have plenty of grip and rubber left on them. these will last for awhile. They fit on stock 16inch rims. I'll let them go for $400 total. I paid about $800 for them brand new. there is another streets of willow event on 5/27 and 5/28th and the tires would be good for that event |
