DIY RDX/TL Switchblade Key/Remote

11-4-06 --- Finally got my TL transmitter, and everything works great! DIY Guide posted!

UPDATE STARTING ON PAGE 3!!!!! PICS + VIDEOS + INFO! THIS MOD IS NOW COMPLETE!!!!!!!

Pics: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showpost.p...4&postcount=70
Videos: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showpost.p...&postcount=121
DIY: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showpost.p...&postcount=127, http://forums.clubrsx.com/showpost.p...&postcount=128

I thought the Accord key idea was pretty cool, and once I saw the new RDX and TL keys, I really wanted one! I checked the FCC id on the RDX/TL key and it looks like the frequencies are the same as the RSX. I suspect Acura just used the same transmitter for those two cars, even though the RDX only has lock/unlock/panic, and the TL has lock/unlock/panic/trunk (kinda the same as how our remotes are the same as other Acuras, but we don't have a button on our casing for the trunk).

These keys are not readily available yet, unless you buy one of these two vehicles of course, but a friend of mine at Acura was able to get me a brand new one.

UPS shows that the package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 10/25/06! As soon as it gets here, I'll try to program it to lock/unlock, and if that works, I'll get started on hacking the key apart this weekend.

FYI here are pics of the two keys (these are from a CRSX member, and Acurazine):

RDX (Notice it only has lock/unlock/panic. This is the one I am getting):

TL (same, except with a trunk button too... This may be good for you TSX owners):

I'll keep you guys posted.

-John

why not? don't we have the same remotes....? fcc on mine is: oucg8d-355h-a... 313.85mhz... the fcc website lists this remote as being made in 2000 (or 2001 i dont remember). the switchblade key also uses the same frequency.

if it works on mine i'm pretty sure it will work on 02-04's...

it's not the remote, it's the key design

oh.... we can't use that either! we still have the old non-laser cut keys.... i'm planning on doing something similar to this accord key by ondenoantra:

http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=297852

i will have to hack apart one of my keys and fit it into this housing. i did this with a mazda key + vw flip key a while ago and it worked out great...

check out the link i posted about the accord key... it involves cutting the plastic off the key and re-shaping the metal using a dremel. i hope it's that easy for the flip key! i guess i will know once i actually get it and take it apart.

I would guess that the key in the flip design has some sort of hook mechanism to attach to a spring, that way the key flips. You'd have to mock whatever design is on the key.

Is it like a switch blade? Does the key pop out AND pop in?

nope it's just like the vw keys where you push the button and it pops out.... you would have to hold the button and push it back to make the key go in...
