Poll: Splitting lanes in California

News article from a local station stating that lane splitting in california is legal. I already knew this, but thought I could pass this on to those who are not aware of this law.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...d=20114 56467

According to the news reporter, it is legal for a motocyclist to go 10-15 mph faster than the current traffic conditions (provided it is safe). What does that say about cars going 70 mph, and you still see motorcycles split lanes at 75+mph betwen you and the car next to you? Ive seen motocycle cops (without sirens) go about 40mph on about a 20mph highway traffic flow.

Poll (for those who ride motocycles): Who lane splits? and how fast do you lane split?
1. I dont lane split. It is unsafe and/or illegal in my state.
2. Only when traffic is at a standstill
3. Up to 25mph
4. Up to 50mph
5. above 50mph
6. lane splitting is not an issue for me. regardless of speed, i ride like the blue angels fly (1" separation from wingtip to wingtip)

For RSX-Ninpo. (Now stop bugging me! Lol jk.)

I do it and have at all speeds, try not to do it over 50 anymore thats just stupid.

But my buddy got reckless driving in NH for moving between two cars at a redlight to the front of the line.

Its just legal in California.

In slower traffic, its actually safer to lane split as you dont have to worry about people rear ending you. There are less motorcycle accidents due to being rear ended in California than any other state.

When i first lane splitted it was scary at first. I had to miss a couple of mirrors that almost hit my windshield. I got on to a freeway like the was made for the model t ford with the smallest damn lanes. So when your splitting you drift off slightly your gonna get a mirror into your shoulder. I have felt the plastic off a mirror rub my jacket its been that close. But in Los angeles you could get from point a to b in half and hour when it takes a car twice to three times that. Which i enjoy very much, but The only thing is there are a bunch of asshole drivers who see a bike and block you in too. Or like playing around and jerk the wheel toward ya.. Especially when the dude been sitting in traffic for a hour at a stop and your just buzzing by.. So i for me i try to keeps my odds of survival high if i really running late i will take the bike but if not i just save it for the weekends and drive the rsx..

lane splitting is the #1 cause of morning motorcycle accidents in Cali, some people just dont see you coming and change lanes when you're zooming by..just try to ride in the lines next to the carpool lane, its safer
