1. Use good quality microfiber towels/applicators (the ones with silk lining are nice)

2. Apply just enough pressure but dont press to hard, rub in back and forth motion vs. a circular motion.

following the lines of the car and the length of the strides don't matter when waxing a car. the most important rule is to make the the wax goes on thin and also, depending on the wax, make it sure it dries to a haze before removing. don't apply wax with a dirty pad, if it falls on the ground while waxing, get a new one. when removing, ALWAYS use a clean microfiber towel or else you cause unnecessary swirls while removing the wax. since i'm assuming you have never bought a wax before, i suggest for OTC and buying meguiars NXT paste or liquid wax from any auto store because that wax is great from OTC. make sure you wax your car every 2-3 months to keep your car looking clean and fressssssssh.
hope i helped.

depending on the size of your MF towl you can fold it over so that you can turn the towel over and use the other side for the next section. Once you are all done go over it all again with a separate MF towel. Good luck.

Always check the stickies b/c more than likely, it has been covered in great "detail", no pun intended

I would follow the line. Cause you can get unwanted wax in the crevice.

Also, dont push too hard on the applicator, but do work the wax in until it breaks down. it takes a while with some waxes, but the wax should go clearer.

this helps when wiping offthe residue wax.

IME, I've never had to "break down" a wax. I've had to break down polishes. Wax is simply applied and removed according to the directions on the product label.

i just knew somebody would say that...

with a lot of waxes, when u are applying the wax you need to very gently rub the wax until it @breaks down@ and the finish is matted but consistnet.

the application process is somewhat dependent on the wax, but as an average piece of begineer advice, i would reiterate that the person waxing think in terms of breaking down/in the wax.

the is oppossed to the oft seen; rub in a bit of wax, wait for it to dry and then wipe off. u need togently work in the wax - unless its some cheapy polymer wax witha glue base in which case the opposite is true.

@Use a small amount of wax at a time, and rub it in well. If you use too much wax, you're wasting the product and your time.@

http://autopia.org/forum/guide-detai...-your-car.html

note the rub it in well. not just apply and wipe off.
