it is an absolute blast to drive. I took a friend out over the weekend and he rides a Suzuki GSXR1000, he thinks that he would not be getting by me in a sprint from the line - AWESOME.....

Teething Problems
Well since completion of the project I have managed to get roughly 600 miles under my belt in The Beast, not without drama though.
First big outing saw the N/S rear coil over come apart as the locking nut on the damper shaft had nut been tightened properly, doing around 60mph hard acceleration and BANG.....fortunately a fellow mini driver was passing that lived close, he lent me some tools and I had it on the road again in about 45mins. Front N/S wheel bearing came loose, turns out a tapered thrust washer that was holding it in had snapped and was basically disintergrating, so each time you nipped it up it just disintergrated some more. A new bearing set and new washer saw the end of that problem. Out on a run one day and saw the water temp rising over 100degC (norm 83degC), killed the engine and pulled over. whilst on the phone from the other side of the road I noticed the Serpentine belt had come off - WTF?? Turns out where I had been adding spacers to the alternator to keep the tension on the belt with the OEM tensioner it had snapped the two lower bolts - oops... A new design for the spacers was conceived and it is now fine. Most recently - like two weekends ago the front N/S coil over decided to come apart - couldnt believe it...... the boing and then the rattle around under the hood coupled with the N/S dipping kinda gave it away. That and the fact that I need to replace the recon steering rack with a brand new unit means the Beast is currently off the road again. A picture below of that unit apart: ![]() On a lighter note me and a buddy were out in the car a few weekends ago and completely destroyed a Ferrari 328 off the line. Another time saw my right up the trumpet of a Ferrari 360 off a roundabout and he did not get away from me up to about 100mph then we hit traffic, he did a proper twat of a move on the next roundabout to shake me so I left him to it as I refuse to drive like an idiot...... I have got my camera mount made up now and once I get it back on the road I will try and get some vids and post them on Youtube.

V-tech Mini
Captain,
Good to see you on here. I was just surfing and shopping on Club-RSX for parts and ideas for my K20A2 power plant and I ran across your thread…. I just picked up a 2004 K20A2 19000km’s last month from a dude that changed his mind on the K20A2. He is now putting a Honda S2000 in his Mini (and I’m Cazy?!?!?)….. I bought his K20A2 6-Spd Typ-S along with - RBC throttle body induced air intake, ACT Clutch Kit - AR1-XTG6 Extreme Pressure Plate w/ 6-Pad Sprung Hub Disc, F1 Racing Lightweight Chromoly Flywheel, turbo w/cooler & pipes, K-Pro ready ECU and and and…. But I know nothing about the Engine as of yet but have found loads of info here on the Club….. I too belong to the Z-Car ‘Mini forum” as I have had my Mini now for 12 years and have just started building up my Mini V-tech now for the last 8 months. I have Chris at Zcars waiting to send the CDS frames, frontend and Z-car kit. but I want to build up the engine and I’m still in the tear down/ body work stage. So you know what I have in front of me. I can’t wait to see this little monster rip’n thru the Canadian Rockies. I have talked to Lyle about his Evil eye’d blue monster and Jim @ Rougese7en about Kevlar panels, but I just would like to say, your build is a huge help and inspiration to my build. If I can even come half as close to what you have built I would be happy.. Keep up the Ferrari kill’n and I’ll keep you informed as to how the Canadian Mini Type-S is doing here or on the Mini forum. Good to see another of these cars being built and I am quite jealous that you get to dive round the Canadian Rockies in it, I can imagine there being some great roads out there. It would be good to se another build on the miniforum, we are even interested in the build up stage that you are at, information gained about engine builds is good as I dont think many of the mini guys are into building their motors. I look forward to seeing your build thread sometime soon.

Not much to report at this time, I have been enjoying driving the car as much as possible but the weather is not good at the moment and the British roads get covered in salt whenever there is a hint of a freeze so its really not the best time to take a high powered rwd car out.
Still a month or so ago I managed to get out for a run with two of my mates (they were on sportsbikes so I didnt have to wait around for anyone). As my photoshoot for Miniworld was coming up I was going to leave it in the garage but the weather was too good not to go.. With the photoshoot in mind I hadnt yet done any timings for the car and as my SPA speedo gauge allows me to do whatever timings I want I thought I would give it ago. So I found a nice flat and fairly smooth bit of road (private road of course ;-) ) and then first I set up for my 0-60, then 0-100 and then 40-60 as these are the most talked about numbers. I hasten to add at this point I have my speedo calibrated to within 1mph of my GPS speed camera locator so its pretty frickin accurate. The Results: 0-60 = 3.4 seconds 0-100 = 8.0 seconds 40-60 = 1.6 seconds I only had three or four attempts at the standing starts and the 40-60 is just from one run and needs a few more runs to see if I can get it down with different gear selection. The standing starts were done taking off in first, minimal slip, no wheel spin, drop it and go. I reckon I can get both times down with practice and a clutch I didnt care too much about, still they're not bad for an amateuer......I currently change to 4th for 100 but I reckon I can hit the rev limiter in 3rd and that should just get the 100mph on the clock, will try that when the weather gets better. With the timings done and a need to make a banner for my build diary forum I went about making the below in photoshop, for those wondering about the BHP thing, its because almost everyone in the UK understands BHP not WHP, although those that are true gear heads know what WHP is all about.

I honestly dont know if you can get the mag out there, I am guessing give it a month and you might be able to order a back catalogue from the Miniworld website, I know you can buy online versions but again you have to wait til the issues been out a while.....

OK I got some video - its on the road video so dont expect anything wild and crazy or me breaking the speed limit, just incase that happened during filming I made sure the speedo is not visible, you can see the tacho and when the needle changes colour its around 7000rpm. The sound needs some work, I think theres something loose in the camera and the recording level is way too high. The video makes it seem very slow compared to being in it.
