I don't think he "cheaped out" on hood pins. Some people, myself included, think hood pins look like ass. Unfortunately many carbon fiber hoods can not be trusted to stay secured without the ugly ass hood pins. Badass bimmer though

It didn't look much faster than the gtr in the video... I guess traction issues were slowing it down off the line?

correct.

has basically no traction thru third gear (although HPF has conceptualized their own rpm based traction control system - which is pretty bad ass)

the on board video makes it look like the GTR isn't even trying.
