Any of the "green" or "blue" ones are fine. It's just coolant.

well, there have been premature deaths to water pumps in hondas using other coolant. honda coolant is supposedly the only coolant that should be used in honda cars.
use honda type 2... its got a blue label.

I guess your right, thats problably why there is so many 89' hondas driving around for so long.. they all been using Honda coolant for the last 2 decades..

1. Check coolant level
2. Add if nessesary
3. Flush system + Add fresh coolant

I dont know.. i just felt like speaking my mind, thats all. but ill give you the reasons why I posted this comments...

1. The question was... "what brand should i buy?" you answered: "I buy OEM coolant"..... thats your personal preference, wich its cool... but it does not mean the car will blow up if you use X-BRAND green or blue coolant.

and

2. The peace of mind you are talking about comes based in two things... Price + Brand... not the components of the product or why not, the advantage of using this or that type of coolant... $2-3 more dollars/ OEM.. that was it.

Again, I problably took it out of context and decided to call you out. Sorry about that.

thats exactly it. i understand they are all essentially the same but if you want to get into technicalities using your logic then the manual says to use only acura coolant therefore he should only use that. the advantage of one over the other was mentioned right below me.

I agree with imbest. when i got the car i had it flushed with green but didnt know about using honda only. now i feel like changing it just for the peice of mind that it wont corrode away at the waterpump seals and the rest of the cooling system.

My car is overheating beacuse i need coolant, my logic will tell me "buy the green stuff at AZ or AAP"... the manual will tell me "Drive another 20 miles and get the OEM coolant!!"... "The manual says" card dont apply here.... take your aftermarket parts off your car (rh,cai,e.. ect) and put it back to stock, then you could probalbly pull that card out..

Thats where i was trying to get with this topic, you DO NOT... i repeat DO NOT have to use OEM, Its recomended.. but not mandatory.

l hope you get my point, as much as I understand and respect yours.

Im out...

I am using Prestone or some brand like that. The motor has not yet seized up or otherwise died.

My bad, it just got to me... can we all just agree on this:

"Honda/Acura coolant its HIGHLY recomended to use, Other X-brand could be use at owners discresion"..

or even better, all coolant works but the manual recommends honda/acura.

i dont want to hype up honda/acura coolant either since theres really nothing special about it.

i honestly probably would have fought back but im one warning/infract away from a ban

I use the Honda blue. Most type of antifreeze found at auto parts store contain silicates. Which aren't recommended by the manufacture. Oem coolant also has phosphates in them. It seem aftermarket coolant either have on or the other. I wouldn't use prestone either as it a dexclone. If i have to use another coolant. I would use zerex Asian formula or peak global.
