Burning Oil

Ok guys so i drive an 06 type S with 78k on it as of today. I have a HKS catback exhaust and a passwordjdm Carbon fiber intake (the huge one). My car is burning through oil like its a job. Any advice on what i can do to help this problem. i also plan to seafoam my car within the next few weeks or month. Do you guys think that is a bad idea or should that help with the burning oil and carbon build up. Any advice would help..

What oil are you using? It seems like Mobile 1 synthetic is giving a lot of members burning issues.

Swith to amsoil/penzoil/etc... My car burned enough M1 during regular intervals that I had to top it up at least once. With Amsoil it barely uses any.

I just got my car, but before doing my first oil change I did a lot of reading and it seems like a lot of people are having issues with M1 burning off faster than other oils. I'm currently using 5w30 Castrol Syntec with Edge. I have about 250 miles on the oil which isn't really enough to judge, but my level has not moved down on the dipstick yet.

Mobil 1 is complete garbage it burned on me and I would just daily drive and I hardly drive aggressively and I would burn about 2 quarts before every oil change. I like castrol edge a lot more and I still have some burning but not as much. I don't know what other oil to use really since I don't think royal purple is worth it in price and I've had bad experiences with pennzoil in other cars.

What about the seafoam? Think this will help at all? What are your opinions about seafoam?

i have a 06 with 88k mileage, just did a recent tune up, checked my oil i oil changed @ exactly 5,000 miles a little burning not tooo much my oil change shop told me i could of ran for another 2,500 miles or even more the dipstick oil was still clear only the tip of it was not a lot of burning oil. only mod is a injen cold air intake

this is mobil-1 5-30, Oil Filter, mobil-1 as well no problem for me maybe you drive to reckless(high rpm) and burn your oil or something? for sea-foam i did some researching about it if you intend to put the sea-foam in it can ruin your spark plugs

Every car is different and different brands of oil will burn faster on some cars than others. You just gotta find one that works on your car.

I used to own a 2002 base auto and used Royal Purple religiously because it never burned a drop of oil between my 5000 mile oil change intervals. I now have a 2004 Type-S and after 5000 miles I've burned about 1.5 quarts of oil. I'm going to switch to something like Amsoil or Motul and see if anything changes. I drive very modestly (almost never hitting VTEC). I still get about 400 miles/tank driving all highway so my fuel economy is fairly good. I don't know why I burned 1.5 quarts of oil, but I hope switching to another brand will show some positive changes.

im also having a similar problem with burning oil. i have an 06 type s JGM with 65k and ive been using up until this point pennzoil platinum 5w30 and its burned a ton of oil. no leaks no smoke nothing. just burning straight oil. i just made the switch over to mobil 1 so il see how that responds to the car. im doing majority highway miles going back n forth from the city but i have yet to find an oil that doesnt burn. im gonna keep switching brands if this keeps up n see what responds the best. ive talked to some mechanics and they were suggesting oil additives but idk much about them, its worth considering tho...

I used to use OEM Acura oil for 2 years, then a year of Motul.
Currently I'm using Mobil1 0w-40.
My interval is 3000 miles. Never burnt oil.
Of course I love to VTEC.

I use Castrol Edge and run a K&N oil filter. I change my oil every 4k and have 101,XXX miles on the car and never burn through any oil.

I don't think this is normal though. Not that much. Could the piston rings be sipping oil and burning it off? I used all kinds but it still burns now about a quart and a half. Any professional input by someone here!!!

Fuck thats alot. quart a month sounds about right. I thought my engine was done for. I did a compresion test and I got roughly the, same numbers on all four. I don't remember what but it was only a couple numbers difference from each other. Is there anything to be done to reduce this.

on ur next oil change Through a 1/2 QT of ATF (Automatic Trans Fluid) in there. Its will help. More than likely your Oil rings are starting to go. run the fluid for about a month then drain it. I never Liked Mobile 1. Just for the fact that it can create Blow by. Try that for now. Just dont run it in your engine for very long. No more than a month. My dc5 is boosted and Never have used Mobile 1. Always factory Fluid 5-30

Alright just thought I would throw in my two cents

I have an 03 type S and my car is definitely burning through oil. I noticed it the past two oil changes. I was using Mobil 1 and this recent oil change, my car spit out only 2.5 quarts of oil... And I was throwing more oil into it because my cars oil light would come on when I take off in first gear. At first I thought it was my car because it has 180k. I just switched to Castrol Edge and Im hoping for a difference. My buddy uses Castrol in his 05 Type S and he gets every quart back with his changes.
