DIY: LED door Sills

OK you know the drill I am not responsible if you screw something up or blow up your car or whatever...

LED Door sills, with this DIY it will function just as the dome light in the DOOR function. As in it will turn on and off with the door opening and will shut off with the door locking and unlocking.

Things youll need:

Scissors / Razor / box knife
Solder / solder iron / tape
Parchment paper / plastic (thin)
Dremel / screw driver
Wire / wire taps / solder tabs
Led's
Decal (optional)
Anything else Ill edit in

1. Take off the door sill [ pops right off ]. Once off peel the metal logo off.

** If you dont have a decal you can see the once existent RSX logo. Dremel that out and youll have a nice look**

2. If you have a decal then cut out the indented area, leave a good 1/2 inch on each end for the plastic.

3. shave down the edges until your happy with it

4. Use the metal RSX piece to trace out your plastic cover. I used 3mm stuff found on ebay

5. sand down the edges of the plastic until it fits nice and snug

6. clean the plastic and then place the decal on [ half way done ]

7. Use electrical tape to block any unwanted cracks / slits that light will shine through.

8. Use cookie paper / parchment paper (ALOT) to soften the LED's.. this depends on how bright your lights are, guess and check.

9. Now comes the wiring. I had 3 LED strips on each side so I combined the Positives all to one wire (orange below) and the grounds to a DIFFERENT wire. [In the picture the LEDs + wire has red and black not sure why]

10. I dont have a picture but its straight forward.
For the Drivers side
Pop the A pillar off and take the electrical tape off the wires. There will be 4 wires. The White and blue are you 12v power. The Green and red is your ground
For the passenger
The same wires will be tapped but in a different location. Pop the cover off your dome light. Undo the two 8mm bolts. The same 2 wires will be there. Run the wires behind the headliner until you reach the light. White for the 12v Green for the ground.

11. Now hide all your wires. I ran the back behind the dash and by the door jams.. you can figure out whatever was you feel is best.

Finished product:

'

Love it. Hate it. I like it

PS. I got my decal from ARE-ES-EX-S

If you have any questions I can help you out

Up until number 6 I was like

But it turned out fine! A little showy imo but I'm sure you can turn them on and off, nicely done

Very well executed. I personally would never do it, but it looks cleanly done.

So you combined the LED's +/-(ground) to single wire, then tapped it to the green/red wire right?

sorta. All the +'s were the orange wire. the -'s were on a (black not shown)

Positive ---> Blue/white wire
Negative ----> Green/ red wire

Fixed in the original. Thanks, the way I said it was confusing

is it bright at night? or too noticable?

Dont feel any insecurity from "ricey" comments its never too late to add a resistor to the + of the LED strip. I suggest to demo it on a Breadboard if you wanna test before hand with a 12v input. If its too bright I would tone it down to almost it glowing if you understand.
