hahaha... i used to have three different recievers .. all hacked .. it just became after a while that they went down more often... they came out with new shit then youd have to wait for someone to hack it... the npay again so after a while it wasnt worth it...i did have them up for almost two years without problems before that though... Im out of it now but im interested to see what options are out there now though also

thanks a lot guys. i am leaning towards viewsat ultra since the extreme model has no USB.

what about the dish? what size and which company?

anyway i do have time. turns out i can't cancel with bell for ANOTHER 30 days. i had called to cancel on the 31st of july initially. they fucked up and i was stuck with them for another month. then i ensured that they cancel again on the 31st of august. i called again yesterday (4th sept) and guess what? they haven't even logged it in their system...AGAIN! this is the 5th time they have fucked up overall. i lost my cool and started yelling. since my mom was around i didn't swear but after an hour of yelling and threatening we agreed that we'd have to put up with BEV for another 30 days and they will refund our money for that time period. however, i don't trust them at all.

I'm picking up my Viewsat and dishes in a couple days and gonna do the install myself, so for all the experts out there, how do you use the angles to point your dish? I'm totally confused as the azimuth, elevation, ect? Do I need some kind of compass or something?

Q1000

If you have to aim your dish, a compass would help to get you close. Then just sweep the dish side to side and up and down until you get a decent signal.

It's not that hard... You just have to be lucky... Like you can try to aim it corectly for 2 hours and nothing... and then you hit by mistake a little bit the dish and voila 92% signal

(happened to me 3 days ago when I was installing my dish)
18" dish w/ coolsat 5200 for 30$ (my friend gave me the receiver for free) :)

Btw where are u located... I have a satellite signal finder for sale... 10$ + Shipping It's good to find the raw signal (like up to 87%) but you have to be lucky to find the extra 5% that will make everything work...

If your signal is below 90% some of the channel won't work like the one you would like to see when this hot girls is at your house and there is her favorite movie on chan X but this fucking channel doesn't work...:shakehead

I had that prior also, I had basic cable plus free HD channels for 8 months from Best Buy when I got the tv and was still paying close to $50 per month for probably 50 channels at the most.

This FTA HD box was $500. Plus the dishes was like $60 each with dual LNBs. In a year basically it pays for itself plus I'm getting about 1000 channels and all the Pay per view and everything.

Super worth it man.

Ok got my Viewsat 9000HD setup and getting 90%+ signal on 119 and 110, but can only get 82 to 60% and can't find 91 at all. Guess I need to try and adjust the dishes more.If you want anything better you'll need more dishes.

Quality is the more important number. What is the avg quality for them all?

ok some of the movie channels aren't coming. what do i do? is there a FYI on how to reprogram the receiver somewhere?? there has got to be a 200 page PDF for viewsat floating around with detailed instructions somewhere

:rotfl: you should read up on how to flash new bins onto your viewsat. wait for a new bin to come out then put it on the receiver.

I have one dish for 119 and 110, both of them are 90 quality. As for 91 I can get up to about 70 now and 82 only getting about 60. If I try to even move the dish an inch I lose all Quality. But almost all channels are working so I'm not touching it anymore. I messed around with that for a few days already.

when i first got the dish i had all the channels. the average quality is 86, never below 85 and sometimes hits 90. the other channels that i can view have the same quality.

this seems to affect only the movie channels i.e. Vuxx

Which viewsat do you have? You can get them from www.dsstester.com, d/l the file load it on a USB stick then put it in your receiver and in the system settings there should be an option to upgrade and you pick USB. If your receiver doesn't have USB then you'll need to load the file by serial cable with a Loader program.

The newest file for yours is PFTAUSW070914U, just load that on and done.

Yep, it unlocks everything. You have to check frequently for updates though cause these files come out all the time.

Oh and if some of your BEV channels aren't working, currently they're down and we need a new file for it.

No idea if I'm allowed to have them on tripods, but you can't really see them anyways since I'm up high on the 35th floor. If anything you can always setup the tripod inside the building, i heard of people doing that.

Check out the nFusion Nova, I picked it up as a secondary receiver. They hardly ever go down compared to other boxes since it uses IKS card sharing, you plug the receiver to your router and that's it. Haven't had mine down yet when my Viewsat has been down more than up in the last few months.

There's no comparison, nFusion is way better. I think they go for like ~2 bills. www.Hu-card.ca sells them for $210 no tax. An Ultra is like $150, for extra 60 bucks I rather get nFusion at least you don't have to keep updating files like the viewsats.

Viewsat has the best support by far but their fixes are often flakey..

Sonicview is also very good (I believe its a sister company of Viewsat)

Coolsat used to be top of the line, but these days they're trailing behind most of the other boxes

If you're a hardcore tech guy and know ur linux stuff i recommend getting a Dreambox. The solutions are open sourced and currently there are two groups that support fixes for B3v and d1sh. Dreambox is very advanced stuff so if you don't understand basic ftp and linux commands stay far away from that. But if you are a newbie at then stick with Viewsat/Sonicview..

You could also pick up a Twinham which is basically a card for u computer... these things will get b3v hd but not d1sh... They're dirt cheap however like the dreambox, they're a pain in the ass to setup

Also i've been earing good things about nFusion, so u could consider that as an option...

One more thing, if you got someone setting it up for or ur doing it self make sure u never go cheap on a switch...These bloody things fry on u like crazy and will cause u HOURS of headaches... and stay far away from plastic solutions.. once u start messing around with that u'll pay an arm and a leg for the equipment! ..

u need to align it to an echostar bird and u will need a switch(get a chieta) if u intend on getting 119, 110.. otherwise a direct connection and some alignment to 110 is fine. there are a lot of brackets on the net that fit on the old DTV dishes which allow u add another LNB for 119 and 110. its pretty easy to setup....
