i currently have amsoil syncromesh and i love it.

the oem honda mtf was notchy and had a really noticable 3rd gear "wall" so i switched to amsoil and it was like night and day.

then when i had my clutch upgraded, i tried royal purple and i hated it. it was probably as notchy as the oem honda mtf plus i have heard it is not the proper weight anyways.

now back again with amsoil and will probably keep it like that for the life of the car.

Car had 57K after 3 years; 2nd gear grind is the same as it's been, but 3rd gear wall now becoming a consistent pain in my ass. Stopped by the Honda dealership and got some of the new MTF. After the change, I feel that shifts are a bit smoother (nothing huge), grind is not as bad, but the wall has gone away

I only drive my car on the weekends so I don't put many miles on my car anymore; thus it will take a fairly long time to see how long the fluid holds up, but this is my choice for now.

@ 48k miles i just changed the mtf to the "new honda" mtf. I cant say that its any better than the red label cause every time ive changed out my MTF its obviously been better after the change.

But as for a review. after the fluid change 2 gear was easier to get into (wasnt too hard to begin with) and 3rd gear went in much easier as well. this was more noticeable to me. but again it wasnt a major complaint to begin with.

Keep in mind ive never had many complaints about the tranny in the first place. I got the 2nd grinding issue.. mb 4or 5 times in the life of the car. And 3rd gear pop out only happens in extreme cold weather.. (below freezing, but goes away once the tranny is warmed up)

Dealership replaced the fluid under warranty after I complained about the 3rd gear pop out. NEVER had the problem again, though I have a new tranny also under warranty and shifts better than before. I vote Honda.

I just put in green lable honda mtf and so far it's great....I only have 21000 on my car but it still feels better then before. I have heard bad things about the Acura mtf but while I was at the stealership getting my AC worked on the guy there told me that it is the same stuff and the only put an a on the end of the number so that they can put it into a different container......I said sure whatever and went to the honda dealer and got some green lable, but the guy did give me some free crush washers.

Pennzoil Synchromesh, and I change it every other engine oil change and have never had a grind or popout. I learned this lesson the hard way with the old transmission. I have 80K miles on this tranny with absolutely no problems. I think that the Honda reccomended schedule is way too long for the small amount of MTF used, and everyone that has started the same schedule as I practice, have had positive success regardless of the brand of MTF used(except RP).

I just did a flush over the weekend with the new honda MTF green label. My car is about to hit 30k and I noticed shifting feels better. This morning was rather cold, probably the first morning where I had morning frost on my windows since summer was over and the shifting feels like new in cold weather. Feels more solid and damn it just feels more comfortable when i shift. Ive only had it flushed for about a day so i cannot give anymore review, but so far so good. I will probably update after a week if i remember.

BTW: I got skunk2 shift knob, Comptech short shifter, and aluminum transmission and shifer bushings...but i had all that before the flush too

And when I first got it done and drove the car I didnt notice a difference at all, i thought i wasted my money. But this morning i noticed an improvement

I use pennzoil too....just cross reference the part numbers out and its the same thing. BUT, I run 50/50 blend of the pennzoil/regular GM synchromesh and the other half is GM synchromesh with friction modifiers. Change it out about every 10k and never have problems agian with grinding or popping out. Well worth the ~$25 it takes to replace the fluid. HUGE DIFFERENCE

I also just put in the Pennzoil synchromesh and so far it is better. The gears are not as notchy and they feel smoother will driving. It's only been 4 days so we'll see how it does.
