Alarm power draw

Alarm is drawing too much current and will kill my battery in a few days. It's running from the reverse fuse so I disconnected the brain box. The draw is now minimal and the car start etc. Is this just a power hungry unit, or is there a better power line to tap into. I suppose it has to stay live in order to protect the car, but WTF, no one can steal it as the battery is dead anyway
