I would just leave it and monitor it on rainy days to see if it leaks again, if it does remove it again and run a thick bead of silicone around where the gasket comes in contact with the frame of the car. That outta do it..worked for me anyway and it rains every second day here in Vancouver)

ahahah, I've been one of those 02 rsxs with a pool of water in my trunk... no good can come from that...maybe its my tail light but i never noticed any water in the light itself..unless it just gets behind the whole assembly and into the trunk... I'll check it out though..cheap fix

thanks a lot

Can anyone confirm that some of the oem gaskets come with adhesive and some do not? Received mine from acuraoem parts and they didn't have any adhesive. The old ones I removed from my 04 type S definitely had some sticky stuff though.

I just don't want this damn thing leaking anymore and if I need to get glue and redo it I will. Thanks

I had no sealer or anything on my OEM gaskets when I replaced them and they weren't supposed to.

3.5 months later....tons of rain and not a drop of water in the car! My gaskets were the older style with NO adhesive and they work exceptional. Thanks again for such a great DIY.

I didnt even bother buying the gaskets.

I cut a stencil with a razor blade from the old gasket with a Ziplock freezer bag(thicker plastic).
I have the old gasket and the new layer I made from scratch. Worked perfectly and didnt cost me a dime.

Just need to make sure its aligned correctly. Otherwise this is a good immidiate fix if anyone still following this for a solution.

I didn't buy new gaskets either.

Just cleaned up the area real well, made sure there were no cracks or rips on the gaskets and put some silicone sealant on them and it hasn't leaked at all. I did this like 2 years ago too so I know its working.

@ above
Tail light gaskets does not require you to take down the bumper.

Go under the rear of the car there is one lower screw(on each tail light) you can easily unscrew with your hand+screw driver. Get a flash light and you can handle it within minutes.

I removed those screws without this step. very easy!

I've got a small amount of water in the trunk. Condensation on both rear lenses too.

I decided to seal it all up with silicone caulk. My RSX is black. And they now make an outdoor one in that color. So far, so good. But I went all the way from left to right; sealing all the voids.

I've seen others post that they didn't like the look of the sealant. If you have a different color; you can paint this stuff with touch up paint. If you do a careful job; it's hardly noticeable at all.

Just an idea. Will let ya' know if it's solved once and for all.

Solved. I ended up drilling two tiny weep holes in the lenses as well. So... one way or another; no more water in the trunk.

Thanks to all,

just did this today, bumpers off and all cleaned up and ready to put back on, my taillight was filled a few cm from the bottom with water, i got most of it out, only a small puddle in there now. hope the rest will evaporate out of it soon and i'll throw the gasket on and put it all back on. the bracket the taillight was sitting on was becoming rusty from it. Perfect time to sandblast it and repaint it

since someone brought this thread up again: it has been an entire year including a brutal Canadian winter since I have done this and I have not seen a drop of water in my trunk since! Knock on wood! Great DIY, again.
