Garage is coming together nicely, still messy, but I am working away as I go now.

Another couple of weeks and it should be all sorted out for a while.

Those v-band clamps look just like the ones we use on the Blackhawk.

All that sounds fine except for the soon part!!!!

It's funny, it doesn't seem that big right now with 2 cars and alot of stuff. Hoist, 2 freezers, bender, 2 sanders, drill press, welder, tool boxes everywhere. There is no end to the money I could have spent making it bigger, except on my end.
It's good though, it will be so much better once it's done.
The extra height is really coming in handy for shelves and storage, leaving alot more floor space than would otherwise be possible.

Aluminum muffler!!!!!
Really lightweight, we shall see how it attenuates combustion noise shortly!

I know I'm not the first to do this, there are others on this site. Just got sick of the price of burns stuff, nice, but it doesn't need to cost that much to put a pretend muffler on a car!!!
I'll report on how they actually work.

Very nice! Im just worried about issues of an aluminum muffler failing under the heat, pressure and vibrations on My car, I just fabbed up 3" aluminum pipes to take some weight off, from the mufflers back, but I am leary of doing all aluminum... Beautiful work though man. I think my syncrowave is finally going out, I might have to get a dynasty....

There will be no trouble with these on any car. The aluminum dissipates the heat too fast to get harmed. That, and the mufflers don't get very hot at all when they are straight-through like this.
The perforated tube inside is stainless, and so is the packing. I estimate that the packing will last a great deal longer with the aluminum shell sucking and dispelling alot of the heat out of the system.

It will hold up right off the header of A high revving v-8? I didnt think it would melt, but I figured it would anneal, and start to sag, and deform.... Maybe I'll try it, where did you get the SS insert?

you could avoid that just by going thicker on the aluminum

Yeah, but theres a point where thin gauge stainless would be easier imo.

Still I'd like to try it at least...

with a little more practice you might be pretty good at that welding thing.

Thanks. I figure another 20 years and I'll have it pretty good. Until then, practice, pratice, practice...
Seriously though, mild steel sucks to weld without an enormous amount of prep.
Things were going ok, then there was a spot where I didn't sand enough of the mill scale, and instant undercut and wandering arc!!!! I was choked. Stainless and aluminum FTW!!!

I love welding on cars and not getting all the paint off in a spot, that is super fun.

You dont need an inverter for what you mentioned, but of the three, the Miller Dynasty 200DX is the best of the bunch, by far.

i know i dont need a inverter base..but i dont have a big power supply and i dont want to spend another 1000 on a genarator to power that thing up either..i hard inverter base welders do suck up much amp like non inverters does because i dont have a 90a plung in my house, so i would rather spend good money on a good machine then spending more money on more stuff to power up a cheaper machine..i want to spend money once and once only..and i have 6 months to pick my machine that i want before i come home for iraq..and before the wifey see the money going out the account...lol..

I would give the slight nod to the new dynasty 200dx, but if it's not brand new, the lincoln v-205t ac/dc is better.
Either of those machines will thrill you in ways only a top-notch welder can.
