yea thats true. i like buying good stuff the frist time instead of buying cheap shit and then up and buying a new one weeks later..but i like the lincoln but the 200dx display look jus like the thermal arc400. the one i use at work all day. so i might just stick with the 200dx

i have mixed thoughts. it definitely looks good but i don't know if the fact that the piping doesn't look the same on both sides is my taste. one of those things that you see and it's awesome but i'd probably want something different if i had a 350. but hardcore props to you. looks clean as fuck

First aluminum mufflers are on a toyota Soarer. I really like the car, and he chose the right colour.
The sound is so nice I can't believe it. The mufflers kept it very deep at idle, and make it sound so smooth during WOT sweeps!!!
Doesn't sound like a jet anymore, sounds very nice.
Decibel testing tonight with buddies before the fight. I suspect it dropped 6dB, maybe more.

Since I know it will get asked, I doubt I'll get any sound clips...

when you welding something like stainless you need to project the backside of the weld from oxygen. Argon displaces oxygen in the tube for a better and cleaner weld. If you have oxygen in the stainless, titanium, and a few other metals then it is a weak weld and can crack and break. Often times, if you have oxygen in the weld there is a crack in it right away.

So you fill the exhaust with argon and then seal it up and then weld it? So its just for making a better weld? And stainless steel is the best for exhausts right? What are stock exhausts made of if they arent stainless? Thanks . So many questions.

you don't seal it, you put in a line off your argon tank and let the argon flow continuously through the pipe. I normally use some steel wool to hold the line in, tape the other side and poke some holes in it. When you do it right, the welds on the backside often look better than the outside welds.

the give you an idea on why they don't use stainless. I called a place this week and steel was around 1.70/ft and stainless was 9.80/ft.

Yes, these are the same ones.
Yes, got the tips pretty good. They work more than I thought they would. Only 3/4" of stainless wool inside all the way around. Using a 6" can instead of a 4.5" would have made it way too quiet.

Yes, filling the tubes with argon ensures the strongest welds. Stainless is a good choice for exhaust, most OEM manufacturers use 409 stainless(ferritic) to make exhaust due to cost. I use 304L for my exhaust, as it maintains a nicer look.

that is super cool, I might have to try that one day. Did you make the aluminum into the tube or did it come that way?

I was just curious if it was made from a flat sheet or from tubing.

Sorry for not replying Chris.
Yes, it's just aluminum tube.
As for the tungsten, most of that was welded with Ceriated(orange), since it has a high emission rate of electrons, it requires less amperage to start and run.
It is a good choice for low-amperage work like that of stainless tube.

bleh, I hated orange and love to use red. With thin wall stuff don't be afraid to step down to a 1/16 tungsten from a 3/32.

Yes, tungsten size, like filler rod, has a large effect on the weld bead.
I use the smallest one I can. On the thin tubing, I use .040".
Always use the smallest filler rod possible aswell. Never, ever bigger than the base metal.

Well ive got some 1/16 orange on the way, apparently its a north vs south thing lol. The local welding shop owner is from PA and he said orange is all they used up there, now red is the only thing he sells here. He said I guess the southerners dont care about the radiation, or even know for that matter.

Yeah your suposed to use pure on aluminum, I like when you have a machine that can allow you to use 2% Thoriated for aluminum, with a lower angle for better cleaning. (45-60degrees)

The shop machine is an older lincoln. It will run the thoriated but it will burn the tip off on heavier(1/4" and up) aluminum. The ceriated has worked on ss and alum very nicely so far. We have green but the boss man is to impatient to change it when he swaps material..oh well.
