Some innocent questions.

Okay, this forum seems a little slow so hopefully I can get some input. I've read all the stickies and a lot of the threads, got inspired, started poking around and assembled a general idea of what the whole setup would cost. Now, for my questions.

1. Where are some places to buy components? For some reason I have had a little trouble finding places online that look trustworthy (isn't that always the case). Did you guys buy online, or from your local speed shop?

2. How many people here with N2O did the install themselves vs. having a shop do it? The ones who had someone else install it - why?

3. This may be a dumb question, but is a blow down kit supposed to be routed to outside the car, or is it inside?

4. Here's my shopping list. Let me know if anything is missing, or any other comments. Also are my ballpark prices - I don't have the stuff in front of me, and some of the things are guessing. But it's pretty close. Oh, and I'm not particular on brand I don't think, NX just seemed more readily available in my Google search.

NX wet Kit - 550
NX GenX2 Upgrade (Bottle heater, pressure gauge, fuel switch, blow down kit, purge kit) - 360
MSD Window Switch - 100
MSD Switch Pills (2) - 65
Remote Bottle Opener - 220
Autometer EGT Gauge - 110
Autometer Nitrous Gauge - 70
Something to mount the gauges on (I have my ideas) - 50
Switches and whatnot - 25
Spark Plugs - 80
TOTAL - 1630

Ugh! That $550 kit is deceptively cheap isn't it? Anyone want to buy a $1600 toaster?

edit: i forgot to add on a WOT switch to this. so. add that in. 10 bucks or something.

efi kit + genx2 + remote opener + 15 lb bottle = 985 shipped, if i remember right.

rpm switch 76
pills 46
i got fuel pressure and nitrous gauges (electrical) didn't really wanna run a live nitrous line into my column mount
excess is runnin 125 on the stock plugs, so i think
hi-rev gauge pod.... 70 something

it's about that same 1600 amount too, maybe a little more since i just spend 50 for a fitting and a 4 foot line

What about installation?

I'd PM to find out who that guy was if I currently had the money to pay for anything.

lol, chris used to sell nx on here, but really couldn't afford to pay nearly double for the kit, so i foujnd it cheaper. i needed a fitting and another line for my setup, that gets here wed, so it'll go in wed - this weekend sometime..... when you look at the stuff, it's not that hard, a little bit of wiring, and tightening some connections. ( fairly idiot proof ) the hard part is laying it all out on the table and figuring out what fitting goes where, til you're outta fittings :-D they're smart, they made it so only the right fitting fits in the right spot

that's cool... i'm thinking maybe after i get few more things that i need i'll shoot for nitrous instead of FI. For some reason I hadn't thought of it, and was sitting around the other night and said to myself "well why not nitrous?" To me I guess the only drawback is that it's a temporary thing as opposed to a constant thing, but then again this is an advantage as well... anyway. I'm off to find 2000 bucks.

The remote bottle opener is the only thing I won't get. And it's only because I'd freakin' wear that thing out. I could see me flipping it on and off at every other light. The fact I have to jump out my car and open my trunk at a stop light keeps me out of alot of trouble.
I had my kit installed by a local shop.
The blow down line is ran through the bottom of the car. You will have to drill a hole through the trunk, if that's where you're planning to put your bottle.

Wow, 1600 bucks is a lot of money for nitrous, but you have a lot of components on your list.
I went with the NX kit and purge. I did the install myself, and a local shop wired it for me. I am not good at wiring stuff. Since I did the component install myself, wiring was 50 bucks.
Total Cost
NX Wet Kit - 550
Purge Kit - 120
NOS Wide open trottle switch (The NX switch was crap) - 20
Wiring - 50
Total - 740

I am set up at a 50 shot and plan to leave it there.

Good Luck

Yeah, if your running medical grade nitrous. Otherwise the nitrous has the additive similar to what's added to natural gas. When my bottle blew, before I had the blow down line, I could smell it.

PS - N0S is a company that sells nitrous kits. Nitrous is laughing gas.

Yeah, the scariest thing about it was I had two girls in the car with me and the one sitting in the back had to go to the bathroom before the bottle blew. I was lucky and didn't have to clean up any puddles.

hmm that's interesting that they add an indicator to it, like hydrogren sulfide maybe.... i wonder if there would be performance benefits or reliability improvements if you used medical grade nitrous. or food grade nitrous. i wonder what the differences are.

i'm gonna go start making plans for my Whippit NO2 system now.

yeah i'm sure it's no big deal. and i'd rather smell a nitrous leak and fix it rather than just gradually get giggly and sleepy and anethetized as i'm driving, lol.

i just like the idea of using tiny little canisters of NO2 for some reason
