I own two of these tools, one 10mm and one 12mm... both cut valve lash adjustment times at least 70%. I did a valve lash on my beater car last week, and it only took me 10 minutes. Now, it didn't take 10 minutes JUST because of that tool, but it does cut a lot of time and is relatively cheap depending on the tool manufacture.

Trust me, once you preform the adjustment with this tool you will curse your first born child because you didn't buy it sooner.

Just to add to a great write up, to know which cylinder you are on just wiggle the adjusting nut to ensure you are properly on the right cylinder. If it wiggles you are on the right cylinder, it doesnt wiggle you are on the wrong cylinder...

Also adjust with ur finger tips not your palm and or hand it will throw off readings if you adjust with ur palm/hands.

finally got the confidence and did this myself today, good thing i didnt take it to the dealer or i would have paid $185 for nothing, cuase everything was still in spec, but ticking noise is still there, anyone know what else it could be? the noise goes away when engine is fully warmed up though

Hey i have a couple questions and im hoping spaz can anwser since he seems like he knows his stuff.

1. do all the cylinders need to be at TDC or is it just cylinder 1?

2. after adjusting the intake side do you need to turn the crank to adjust the exhaust side, or just leave it and adjust both of them?

3. im assuming the the valves need to be closed for this so once i start at cylinder 1 and move my way down turning the crank 90 degrees all the valves should be closed, right?

thanks

the easiest way to adjust valves is to rotate the crank/camshaft and adjust the valves where the cam is pointing straight up, just keep track so that you get them all and apply the correct spec (intake and exhaust), the order that you do them in is irrelevant.
