i have that setup
went from a 4 finger gap(stock height) to 2 fingers
ride feel is a lot more stiffer then stock of course and i havent rode in other suspension setups so i cant really tell u how it is in comparison
more stiff then eibach sportsline springs according to others
i did notice some camber on the back and i dont have rear camber kit, i think the camber on my rear are 1.7 and 2.4 from my last alignment a month ago
I've only had this setup for a month or so, but the previous owner had it for a year
Our roads are moderate but crazy snow in winter, and bad roads with holes and pots here and there.
I heard the koni holds pretty well if you dont go over dropping too low and with moderate soft/hard settings
i was thinking about the same set up.right now i went from skunk2 coilovers back to stock cause i really hate my set up but how do you modify your front strut and why?
I just dropped my car off at shop tonight to get the Koni yellows installed. I have the S-Techs on stock shocks. Can't wait til tomorrow! I never had any abnormal tread wear. I do have negative camber but I'm on Micheline Pilots with 500 treadwear and the wear is perfectly even. Best tires i ever had. But I'll post a review about the Koni install.
They had to cut the front strut, drain it, and gut the stock one to insert the koni. Onlu on the front though. Is this standard? I called koni and they said the same thing. The mechanic said i might get a noise from the front. Koni said i shouldn't get any noises. But the mechanic is a 25 year Honda/Acura specialist.
Yeah, I guess the front struts don't come with perches, so they cut off your previous ones and weld them to the Koni's. How does it feel? Pics of the drop?
ya they do have to cut the front
so i bought myself a set of oem typeS suspension for when i will go back to stock
click on my sig's link for pics of my drop
i love the ride height
ya u will hear some soft knocking sounds when you turn and sometimes on braking but thats normal when u get a drop
ride comfort is alright, stiffer more aggressive but less comfort, just as expected
This was took today. Tein S-Tech on Koni yellows. I am happy with the setup. I leave the setting on about 30% front and rear around town so the shocks will last longer. Koni said leaving them on 100% firm will greatly reduce the life of the shocks. There is a noticible difference from soft to firm. Steering response is improved. Turn-in is improved. I havn't tested them out really, but understeer feels like it will be reduced. The porpoising feel you get from certain bumps is also reduced. Any comments are welcome. IF yall want me to post more pics let me know.
Looks good! The drop looks lower than I envisioned it to be. Did the Koni's add an additional drop to the S-Tech's drop? I asked a guy at the shop if Koni's lower the car by an inch. He said no. Only the dampening is adjustable.
Here's what is listed on King Motorsports site:
"Many of the Honda applications also incorporate an adjustable spring perch that allows up to 1 inch of vehicle lowering with the stock springs."
The Konis didn't lower the car anymore. On some Hondas, it might. With the RSX, the Koni yellows only come with the shocks. On the front, you use your stock strut, you just have to cut the top of the strut off and gut it, then insert the Koni shock. I got a little bit of noise from the install..clicking when you turn side to side when sitting still and the suspension still hits the bump stop sometimes. BUT JUST FOR INFO PURPOSES...I CALLED KONI AND ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS SAID LEAVING THE SHOCK ON 100% FIRM ALL THE TIME WILL REDUCE THE LIFE OF THE SHOCK. I read alot of stuff about people's Konis blowing early, this might be why. He said the main reason for the adjustment capability is to make it firmer over time because they WILL get weaker over time.
I have tein s tech along with koni yellows...and well it makes a knocking or poping noise (kinda hard to describe) whenever i hit a bump on the road. When i only had the s tech it already started to do this after a couple of days after the install. Any input on this?
Your hitting the bump stops. The suspension is "bottoming out". The only way to fix this is to raise the car or get bound (when the shock compresses) adjustable shocks. The Konis are only rebound (shock decompresses) adjustable. I had the same exact problem when I had just had the Teins. And i still have the problem after insatlling the Konis.
got aq question about the koni rear shocks. I am installing them and the top nut on the Koni will not toghten down to 37 ft lbs, it just keeps turning until the whole shaft of the shock turns. It seemed tight enough so I put the second nut on and reinstalled the spring/shock assembly. Now once installed I can not get the soft/firm adjustment knob over the shaft as it (the shaft) sits up to far and the knob interferes with the reinforcement steel of the strut/spring perch on the body of the car. I am using the short Koni adjustment knob.
What have I done wrong as I have double checked my work and have found nothing wrong. One thing I noticed was the koni replacement metal sleeve bushing that fits inside the two stock rubber bushings seems to be about 3/8" too short.
Yeah, the rear adjustment knob (the shorter one) will NOT fit on the adjustment needle on the rear shocks. The metal on the frame gets in the way. The best way to adjust it is with needle nose pliers. Here is another pic of the drop. Tein S-Tech with Koni yellows.
screw this cutting, gutting, noise bs...im getting coilovers
